I'm not advocating trading up for him any longer because I think we need to hold onto all our picks, but if he's there at #8 and we pass on him, the Bills will pay the price for ignoring the O-Line again. I'm not totally down on him at all, and honestly havent watched him that much. I would love for the Bills to take a guy like that at #8. On the play that he was toast, the guy just fooled him more than anything, and clearly, by the number of sacks he gave up in his career, that doesn't happen much.

I have not seen the kid play much at all this year, so I am far from an authority on him. If he winds up being the real deal I hope it is us who gets because franchise LTs do not grow on trees, nor are they readily available in FA.

 

I missed most of the 1st half and earlier threads seemed to indicate he started out well. For some reason I just get nervous when it comes to selecting an OL early in the 1st round now.

I'm actually pretty surprised by this list. It is radically different assesments that I have seen on most other draft sites. It also seems like he only has like a handful of people going in the first round. Most shocking to me is that he thinks Jon Scott and Winston will last to day 2! It seems like most people have them projected late 1st or early 2nd.

I went to high school with Parys Haralson. I remember the day Phillip Fulmer came to visit him at school one, I was in my class and I looked outside the door and saw Fulmer, it took me a few seconds to put 2 and 2 together. Norwood didn't look as impressive as I thought he would. They had him returning punts and that's something he's never done.

I was watching Mcneil some at LT. Not that impressed. Seemed real slow, and looks off balance. Doesn't seem to look comfortable in there. Obviously the South is getting killed so hard to tell his run blocking skills.

We have to come out of the 1st with an impact DE. Mario Williams, Halli, or Tapp. These guys are so disruptive. Tapp looks like a Freeney.

Personally, I really like Dominique Byrd, the tight end from USC.  I always liked his game and felt he was under used at USC because they had so many weapons.  But I just saw him blocking well and he might be available in the 2nd or 3rd.  The only thing is that I don't know how much our new o coordinator uses tes because they never throw to them on the Rams for the past few years.

I mentioned D. Byrd when I caught a USC game early in the year. He is an impressive talent, both big and athletic. A very deep TE draft class probably pushes him in the 2-3 rounds so he could be around.

 

He did have some character issues at USC, to the extent I don't know, but he was regarded as a bit of a headache at times. With Marv here that might decrease the likelihood of us drafting great talent/poor character guys, so I still think D. Byrd as a Bill is a long shot.

He looks pretty good to me, too, at least fundamentally, but i see him getting shoved around pretty easily. His man isn't making the play against him, which is always the goal, but my biggest fear if he draft him at #8, that he is not a real dominating tackle, looks very possible.

I see you came onboard here after the 02 draft so I have no idea if you read the Wall around draft time that year. The BIG debate was over who the Bills would draft with the fourth pick. Bryant McKinnie was the big "hype" in left tackles with more than one poster here really pitching for the Bills to draft him, LOL. Some of the posters who have been around for a while might remember that at the time I reported that Donahoe and Williams went down to work out Mike Williams in Texas and were quite impressed. They even had Williams work out of a left side stance. The most I ever got out of anyone after the fact on why the Bills didn't draft McKinnie was that there were some "red flags" in the decision not to draft him. Nothing I ever heard insinuated that McKinnie's agent was the reason the Bills passed on drafting him, as was posted here. Drafting Mike Williams I know now was Donahoes' decision and his alone. Character does indeed play a big part in who the Bills have drafted in the past. They have been burned in that aspect like many other teams for its imposible to know everything about a player but if there were questions about a players character that they knew about, the Bills passed him over.

 

I admit I haven't come even close to watching college ball this year like I have in the past so this was my first chance to see D'Brickashaw play. I did however see Williams play before the Bills drafted him in 02. Watch the feet, this guy is a Wiiliams clone. Williams was called a "dancing Bear" light on his feet, etc you get the point. Maybe it was a "fluke game" for D'Brickashaw to get beat inside twice, but that just shouldn't happen to a dominating left tackle IMHO.

They could invest another high round pick here because their overall production rates at just average across the board"

 

An argument I guess could be made not to draft any lineman either on the offensive or defensive side of the ball early because there have been busts

 

last season there were 16 LT (out of 32 teams) who were drafted in the first round compared with 18 DT (one is a backup, the others were starters at the beginning of last season)

There were 56 DT's positions because some teams play a 3-4 while others employ a 4-3 set. So if my fuzzy math is almost correct; 50% of the LT's starting today were drafted in the first round while only about a third of the starting defensive tackles were drafted in the first round.

 

It still boils down to if your team has good scouts and your GM can take this info and make good selections come draft day.

Ngata is a good player and would be an excellent fit on the Bills. After the combine and workouts to follow the rearranging of draft boards will give us a clearer picture on how this will play out. Lotta time till the draft

Winston is dropping due to a serious knee injury last season and Scott is dropping because he's not very athletic and suspect in pass protection.

i still like bunckley (DT, FSU) -- i didn't watch the whole game, but the plays i did watch, he got off the ball fast, and ran thru the guy blocking him on almost every play -- just like in the practices. Unfortunately for him, he is only 6'2" 286...he'll never be a 320# guy in the middle. I would take him round 2
