The Josh Reed Butterfly effect

If Reed catches that TD that hit him in the chest then everyone on the Bills puts their hands up which causes a slight breeze to flow through QC stadium which causes more oxygen to flow into the lungs of the Bills players. including Josh Reed, which causes him to be more alert the next time he is on the field, which causes him not to drop a 1st down pass which could have been the start of the momentum the Bills needed to take the ball down the field and not play from behind the whole game and maybe be in the game from the beginning and somewhere a butterfly gets crushed by Homer Simpson and he sneezes and the dinosaurs die and it rains donuts and the Bills win....

They bench Losman...they bench Sam Adams...but how Josh Reed keeps starting I will never know.

Yeah, because Josh Reed is the main reason we scored only 10 points and gave up 48.  He has that voodoo like power.

The unintentional comedy factor of this board after a loss is awesome.  Thanks.

You know what the score would have been if he'd have caught that pass?  48-14.

The point is that you never know how the outcome of a game can change over a few plays. If the Bills are tied 7-7 maybe the defense stiffens - if the Bills get a sure first down maybe the drive continues and they score. If they score then they don't play from 2 or more scores down the whole game and their offense doesn't have to try to play catch up, their defense doesn't have to try to take risks to get back in the game, SD's offense doesn't feel comfortable running 3 or 4 reverses/fake reverses in a row because they have a comfortable lead and have nothing to lose. Some missed plays can have a much more profound effect on the outcome than simply tacking 7 pts on or off the final score on the board.

Pass the pipe, bro. I've been watching this team for a long time. The play that changed it from competitive to a blowout was the opening kickoff.

If your team is one mental play away from losing by five TDs...

We are dealing with the fragile psyche of a young qb, and it seemed that the Reed drops did take the air out of JP's baloon. I haven't read a post that tried to pin the loss on Reed, but a true evaluation of his play is that he did not have his best game, and often drops passed on huge plays. I thought wr's in the NFL got paid big money because the possess a skill for making difficult plays. Reed is not a starting caliber receiver. I do think his two early drops changed the feel of the game. That being said, there is no way we were gonna get a w today. Boarding the plane to leave Buffalo insured a loss.

Absolutely. On the road there is no room for error, and thus no room for bad football players being put in position to make mistakes. Those drops really hurt. Reed has skill at getting open and running after the catch, but both of those things are just the cart behind the horse. He can't catch the football at a professional level. He would probably be helped by a change of scenery, as it appears from his fine rookie year and collegiate play that his inability to catch the ball is a mental issue he can't get around despite the Bills investing a lot of time at great expense to team success to try to get him straight.

There's a thing called "momentum" -- look it up in the dictionary. Reed's drop caused the Bills to lose it. When the defense watches the offense struggle, it has a demoralizing effect and vice-versa. When players step up, things happen. Reed didn't step up. No, he wasn't the sole problem obviously. The O-line, aging defense, unimaginative game-planning, etc. all play a role, but Reed continutes to disappoint time and again. It's time to cut him loose and move on.
