Time to Move the Team

Red Dragon

Recommended Posts

The Red Dragon was once like you. He bought tickets, watched all of games, and actually cared about the wins and losses. The he had a revelation. We mean nothing to this team. We are only the mass consumers of their product. They contribute nothing of value to you or this area.

no team cares about the community, ur a fan u attach ur self and the team tries to entertain... the people who enjoy watching sports the most are those who have no preference and just enjoy watching every game but wheres the fun in that

When you all were held hostage by the Bills in 1998 (when they wanted the stadium renovated), the Buffalo News did studies on the economic impact of the Bills. Other than the people who rent their yards for parking, people selling merchandise outside of the stadium, and people employed one day a week to work at the stadium, the the economic impact to the rest of the region was minimal. I'm not advocating not watching football, but I am advocating ending the kind of mindless devotion and fanaticism that I see throughout this community (yes face-painters, I'm talking to you).

How many men were in line that night you were conceived? Also, were their mentality screened?

Just as long as all you suckers proceed like sheep to the stadium each week, nothing will ever change.  If we don't support the team, they will leave. Well let me ask you this-other than providing you with some vicarious thrills and some sort of sense that Buffalo is in the "big leagues", what do the Bills do for you personally? Nothing. They don't care about you or the community. Stop supporting this team and let them take their crooked side show to a different city

Using your theory as a guide:

Since you do nothing for me personally, and I don't care about you, if I just ignore you and stop reading your posts, will you take your crooked side show somewhere else?

I don't consider my time or money wasted.  The $400 for seasons is the easiest money I drop all year.  I'll admit, Buffalo is a horrible place on a Monday after a Bills loss.  But when they are winning, there is nothing better.  There are sh*tty fans all over the NFL in cities who don't appreciate their team.  Buffalo is not one of those.

The Bills have a hold on me and I love it.  I'm not trying to break free from it.  If I didn't want to watch or attend games on Sundays, I wouldn't.  I want to.  So piss off.

That is TWO great posts from you in one day. This was profound and the first one still has me laughing.

Dragon - I knew you would feel the hate...but such volumes for a first time poster...Nicely done. though you lose points for the topic...of course you'll get run. Some of the topics I attacked...and survived to see things are turning my way:

- Donohoe must go. My heart swells with today's postings

- Parrish was a wasted pick

- We should have recruited Weiss

- JP was a reach

- Pat Williams needs to stay

The list goes on, but don't swing on your positions...You can be an epic visionary to the cattle...

you're not allowed to refer to yourself in the 3rd person until you have at least 10 posts!!!

go back and read the rules of your registration!

Maybe the Red Dragon cant read or write so the person posting is really another person and not referring to himself but actually referring to the Red Dragon himself. I have no idea what I just said.

I remember that study. It correctly stated that the game-day impact on the region's economy isn't that high. Eight weekends year, we get travelling fans in our hotels and restaurants, and sixteen Sundays per year, our bars and pizza delivery joints are busier than on other Sundays. That is a nice contribution, but not huge.

But what I remember the study lacked is any evaluation of the team's impact on city recognition. What else is putting Buffalo "on the map" right now? There is an economic impact that is more important--and less tangible--than what goes into local coffers on a few weekends. The perceived increase in quality-of-life is important, too.

Here's my question to you: Why on Earth are you pouring any energy at all into this effort to get people not to watch? Wouldn't your time be better used elsewhere?

This is an interesting angle. If the team is the only thing putting buffalo on the Map, that's sad. growing economies in Huntsville AL, Columbas OH, San Antonio, etc., do not need a pro team to get on the map. Economics is the vehicle for this city to grow - the pro team is a nice to have. I'll bet it could be argued that the Bass Pro Shops or even a Casino would do more for the denizens of WNY that the Bills....

Time For a coup d' etat ! Line the usual suspects against the wall and shoot them down!

Ralph - Dead!

Donahoe - Dead!

Mularkey - Dead!

Scouting Staff - Dead!

And what will this prove? Nothing. Just as long as all you suckers proceed like sheep to the stadium each week, nothing will ever change. Why should they, since their treasury is filled each week. What do the Bills do for me Personally?

I'm sure many of you can echo this sentiment. The Bills bring people together. Even during my irresponsible youth, Sunday was a day that my Father and I came together. From his stories of listening to the Bills of the AFL on the radio or telling me about the likes of Gilchrist, Kemp and Sestak, the team was a lynchpin in an often contentious relationship.

There was one time in particular. I had gotten arrested. I was nineteen or twenty. My father picked me up from the holding center in a furious rage on a Sunday morning. I sat in silence while he yelled. I think he screamed all the way until the one o'clock kickoff against Houston. We still watched the game together though. At first it was in a conspicous silence peppered with disparaging comments about Todd Collins. By the end of the game, we had both come to the realization that this too would pass. (Both my issues and the Todd Collins era.)

On a community level...

The Bills are the one thread that runs through most Buffalonians. They are a common denominator. We've cheered together and hung our heads in despair together. You can be anywhere in the world, meet someone from Buffalo and instantly know that he or she experienced the same crushing feeling when the Titans completed that illegal forward pass. You can look at that person and know that they understand what it's like to be part of something special, like a miracle comeback by a backup quarterback or the tearing down of goalposts after years of futility.

It's sad that Red Dragon doesn't get it, because almost everyone else does.
