If there were misgivings, perhaps you need to slow down and think clearly. (Btw, I obviously do not have problems with gun ownership for law abiding citizens.) 2) You shot handguns in the military, right? What kinds of guns did you like there. For novices, I reccomend .38 revolvers. They are very easy to safeguard, and good to learn with. 3) Your wife is a hero. Let me add that she would be feeling a lot worse if something happened to the kid. Seeing the results of children sexually assaulted is something that can be compartmentalized, but it never goes away. If one is not careful, they can be forever chased by the images. Trust me. Please tell her this. 4) I don't know exactly what happened. Did he touch the child? Did he try to force her in the vehicle, or was it verbal? This matters in terms of sentencing. 5) In all liklihood, the guy will cop. The penalties are servere, which makes copping beneficial to him. I had a guy cop to 8 years on a first offense. I will not discuss anything other than that in terms of this individual case, except that a full 1/3 comes off for good behavior. My point is; a trial is unlikely. blzrul Posted July 19, 2005 Share Posted July 19, 2005 You and your wife should do what you'd want someone else to do, that is testify against the f-ing scumbag and make sure the media and entire world knows what he did, and his situation, so the public pressure to ensure his lockup for life is immense. As to the danger - well, that guy in Idaho who killed the family to snatch a girl shows that it's possible. But I'd hold off on the gun unless the guy's released. Make sure that the DA, PD and everyone else knows all your contact numbers in the unlikely event he makes bail. I testified against a serial arsonist once. As most people know, most serial killers start out with crimes like arson, and this guy was a nutbag. Plus he was from a wealthy and influential family. He was a very big man and quite intimidating. When I went to court the TV cameras were all there...and he sat behind that defense table and glared at me. Scary? Yup. Add to that the fact that it turned out he'd lived in a complex right across the street from my family. But it never occurred to me not to testify, because his next fire may have killed someone. I'm close friends with a woman who was raped at 10, twenty years ago, by her sister's drug dealer. It never goes away is right. If you can prevent this POS from doing the same thing for a long stretch of time, you do it. There is no such thing as rehabilitation for sexual predators. Push the prosecutor who is handling the case. Tell him/her that you want this to go to trial; no plea deal unless it's too good to pass up. If they don't want to go to trial, write two letters a week to the D.A. expounding upon, "If you let this dirtbag back on the streets in five years, in ten years, he will rape again. I know it. You know it. And when it does happen, the responsibility will be on your shoulders. And I will do everything in my power to see that you are fired and have it proclaimed from the rooftops that you let it happen. I will make dragging your name through the mud my mission in life." An 8 year old little girl was out in the play yard and a THREE TIME OFFENDER drove by and tried to pick the girl up. The girl ran into the school and got my wife and two others to come outside. My wife and her coworkers saw the guy circle back, and took down his license number. The cops got him and told her that this would be his third offense, and that he'll go away for a long time, but not until they had my wife identify the f*cking animal. Not only that they're going to want her in court to positively ID the individual. I am SO worried that this guy will get out again and that he'll stalk us. I am SERIOUSLY considering arming myself and keeping an eye on the judicial record to see if this f*cking piece of shiat ever gets out again. Worst thing is, he's registered in MY ZIP code. Putting a $23 robe on either one of those two "professionals" doesn't give them more wisdom. If I were a judge and had the evidence that Joe gave me with at least 3 witnesses plus a child, it wouldn't matter if it was a FIRST offense.
