Guys. Remember This offense...

 Beane reminds me of Andrew Friedman this year. Friedman, reluctant to dip into some top tier minor league talent or major league  prospects, made essentially no additions at the deadline to improve the team thinking with largest payroll in baseball if healthy, will be good enough to win it all . So with no quality relievers he’s being exposed in the WS.Beane, convinced that with an improved O-line supporting Josh and Cook providing another dimension with the run game, hasn’t addressed the receiver room since Diggs left and now with receivers  on 7 teams wishlist he has to overpay because the Biils pick late in rounds. He could have acquired someone in the offseason but was guilty of overvaluing Coleman, Moore and Samuel as a viable part of the receiver room. Palmer is at best a 3 and is arguably a slot receiver. I’m praying Beane brings in a quality receiver and a reliable secondary piece or we will be playing undermanned as a wildcard team, frustrated with an early exit from the playoffs.

Back when we had a NFL caliber WR room in Diggs, Beasley, Davis, Brown.  Many years ago at this point.  They all but gave up on Wr since then for some insane reason

The problem hasn't been replacing a Beasley/Davis/Sanders - it's replacing Diggs.  He was top 5 WR level with us during the 2020-2022 runs.  He was the outlet on scramble drills.  He was the zone beater, the coverage beater, the contested catch guy, etc.

 

They have replaced Beasley, it's Shakir

Davis is replaced with Coleman

Mckenzie replaced with Samuel (not exact, but similar)

Smoke replaced with Palmer

 

If you are going to try to get a Diggs replacement, it's going to have to be a bit of a prayer for someone like BJT/Addison to be dealt and elevate their game.  If they get a guy who is 80% of what Diggs was, the passing offense will spring forward

I agree - I also think/know Josh is slower this season. He doesn't have that acceleration and speed like he used to. It's noticeable.

Also, I think that they activated Gabe this week to see his status before the Nov 4 trade deadline to see if they need to make a trade. 

Wow some great memories of both Gabe and an offense that worked and was entertaining in the process. Looking at this now its almost like the Bills offense was a dog that got neutered. Sure the dog is calmer and doesnt hump you anymore but isnt as much fun!

Makes me even angrier with Beane. I thought he got it with receiver when he committed to improving it after Josh’s rookie year with the Beasley and Brown additions. Further reinforced with the Diggs trade and drafting of Gabe. Now it’s like the position doesn’t even exist to him. It’s BS man and will be the #1 thing that holds this team back.

Also agree.  Why is this though?  Age?  Hopefully the rest of his physicality doesn't diminish as quickly as his short burst speed and escapeability seemingly has.

That’s not true. They got stymied for a big stretch of the ‘21 season when Hill was still there along with prime Kelce.

Age for sure as well as wear-&-tear on his body I would assume. The kids are fast in this league man. Josh ain't so young anymore. He got his MVP, and I think that's it for him to be honest. DC's can gameplan for his tendencies easier than a few years ago. I won't say we are predictable - but not far from....

Stymied as in starting off the first 7 games with a 3-4 record that included blowout losses to our Bills and the Titans. Then they adjusted and went on a run.

 

Yes we need better receivers. I believe Allen will also adjust and be better. Maybe starting this Sunday.

Allen is at his best rolling out, scrambling, and making a Josh throw pinpoint 25 yards downfield.  Defenses cage rush, spy middle, overload side, push up safetys, press coverage, dare WRs to beat them.  Josh has nowhere to go, WRs are stuck in mud, there is no clear choice often.  That 11 second play where Josh was running around, there was no one open.  In 11 seconds, no one could get open.  This is damning for the WR room, Joe Brady, and Beane.  You step up to the plate and fix this embarrassment of WRs for Josh

Probably had something to do with their defense allowing 29, 36, 30, 30 and 38 their first 5 games.

they had a bad loss to the Titans. They were still awesome basically the whole year, as evidenced by being awesome statistically all year. The meme of the cover 2 boogeyman has gone too far

The media literally said Mahomes was ‘broken’ during that stretch. That the league has figured him out. 
 

I agree somewhat with your view of the 2 high safeties overreaction. In KC’s case I think it did took them a little while to adjust. Especially Mahomes. He had to learn to take what the defense gave him.
 

That transition led KC to trade away Hill that offseason and picked up JAG’s like MVS and JuJu the following year with the spread the ball around mentally. Sounds familiar? They were the top offense that year and won the Super Bowl. 
 

It worked for them because they adjusted and thrived. Bills’ offense employed the same strategy last year with great success. The receiving corp hasn’t changed that much. I think they will also adjust and thrive. Specifically Allen. I have a feeling he’s going to have a very good game this Sunday. Everyone will relax afterwards.

You don't have to tell me about what the 2022 Chiefs did and how it was similar to the 2024 Bills.

 

What you are missing is the 2022 Chiefs had Travis Kelce put up one of the greatest TE seasons in history with 110 catches, 1300 yards and 12 TDs. 

 

And Mahomes was throwing for 300 YPG and had 5500 yards total and 45 TDs.

That’s not what happened with Mahomes FWIW.

 

after his stellar 2022 with a less than stellar supporting cast, their offense just took a step back relatively speaking. For 2 years in a row. And that was with Andy  Reid calling the plays

Yeah it did. But there were circumstances that led to it.

 

2023 they relied on guys like Toney and Moore to step up and become starters. They had a serious case of the dropsies and flamed out. Fortunately for them, they also drafted Rice who came on later in the season to filled the void. Of course Kelce was still serviceable as evidenced by him running all over the field in the divisional game against us. 

 

2024 they had the injury issues at wr that, again, curtailed their offense. Yet they still managed to have a functional offense. 
 

This year those guys are back and we can see how their, Mahomes and Reid, experience attacking this offense has paid off when they have all their arsenals. 
 

Imo, Bills offense is in this stage of figuring out how to best attack it. Yes, more talent at receiver would help. But I have faith they’ll figure it out as the season wears on. One advantage they have over KC is a great running game. That’ll make things easier.
