Just a fantastic take on the situation:  stick to your guns PSU for firing a good coach because you expect greatness.

He had more 10 win seasons than Penn State had in the previous like 15 years lol

Penn State will never surpass Ohio State consistently

They've came a long way since the scandals to the point nobody mentions it anymore

Well then, it's a good thing no one is talking about consistently surpassing OSU, lol.

1-10 vs OSU, 4-17 vs OSU/Michigan, 4-21 vs top 10 opponents. We simply want to do better than this.

I hear that but from 1996 to 2010 Penn st had 6 10 win seasons

Franklin did have 6 10 win seasons also

You can do a lot worse... I don't know who's taking you over the national championship hump

The options are getting slim IMO.   Still some hope for DeBoer and Elko and Freeman -  but those options have miserable timing - if they aren’t laughable in the first place.

Names now look like Drinkwitz, who will probably wind up at Florida or some SEC school.  Brohm from Louisville.  Key from Georgia Tech (though I’m not convinced he is interested).  And then the dark horse - and my personal favorite at the moment - Ohio State OC Brian Hartline (but he has limited experience)

None of them are surefire better than Franklin.  But still, the move had to happen - sad as it is.  The fact that Franklin still hasn’t put out a Thank You to Penn state fans and university is quite telling on how sour things got.

At the end of the day - it’s still Penn State - and a top 10 job.   If they can keep a significant chunk of their young players and get some momentum in the portal - they should be fine.  It appears one of the biggest opportunities they don’t want to miss is that next year is a SUPER easy schedule - plus they are renovating the stadium.  So finding a way to win next year and gain momentum is even more critical.

We’ll see.  But I do trust Pat Kraft to make a good selection.

I don't disagree with any of your points, but after 12 years, Franklin consistently clenched up and coached small in the biggest games.

Time to find a coach who can really maximize his talents and rise to the occasion in the biggest games.  Yes, they may hire a mistake or two, but stick with it.

Cignetti came from the smaller schools.  I remember Jim Trestle having dominant teams at Youngstown State and no one would take a chance on him until OSU did.  There's more options than just the highest profile names, Kraft just has to have a firm idea what he's looking for and enough evidence of coaching acumen  on film.

He should keep an open mind.  Jim Trestle really laid the foundation and started the OSU transformation to the well-respected powerhouse it is today, expunging the meathead thug stink of Earle Bruce and John Cooper, lol.
