ArAre there any casinos that offer in-depth tours as to how the casinos run?

I'm looking for one that would do such a thing. I doubt it would happen given how vegas runs, but hell its worth a shot.

I work at one of these casinos - I'll tell you straight up there's no tour that will show you how the casinos run. That would only be unless you knew someone who had the time/permission to do it specially for you. About the only tour you can get would be to learn how to play some of the games, especially like craps. But there really aren't any kinds of tours that give away the "secrets" for the public.

I'm not looking for a tour for secrets, just like, the techonology behind the gaming, surveilence, etc. I'm one of the rare few that aren't trying to cheat Vegas, but rather just have fun.

BTW, how is it working at a casino? What do you do? It'll be nice once I can get free drinks at Vegas (compared to those damned canadian casinos making u pay for drinks  )

The drinks are not free, you have to gamble to get them trust me it cheaper to buy them.

no way. I have found that the quickest drinks are at Paris and New York, New York. You can play nickel slots at NY, NY and pound Grand Marnier. Or you could go to any video bar, throw a $10 in, and every so often play a quarter for 5 card draw. My preferred method is to play $10 Pai Gow at Paris and pound Grand Marnier all day. You push over 40% of the time, less then 60 games an hour. Talk about a cheap way to get blasted

Casinos work like this. They take a slight edge....convince people that they are getting good odds....and push it over huge sample space.

Watch the Travel Channel - I can't count how many times I've stumbled across Vegas-related shows on there, many about the technology and surveillance aspects, can't tell you specifically when but I know they're on there alot.

I don't work in the casino, but at one. I work in finance, so alot of my work deals with the casino. There is alot that goes on behind the scenes that people would be astounded to know. The marketing and player development at some of the larger hotel/casinos is amazing - my hotel has a vice president in each of these areas - Casino Marketing, National Marketing, sales and marketing, player development, casino cage/collections/credit, slot marketing, casino operations, slot operations, etc (theres probably more, thats all I can think of now, if I'm bored tomorrow at work I may see what others there are for fun). Thats alot of high level people overseeing the casino. And the corporate structure is similar - there is a huge concentration on casino marketing. And not to frighten, but if you use a player's club card, there is alot of info on there (although you knowingly give most of it). Needless to say, alot goes on, i keep learning new things each day.

And about the "free drinks", sure you're still playing, but the waitress will still come by if you're winning, and the way i look at it is if you lose $20-30 and get a bunch of drinks out of it, no big loss.

Ok ive said enough. Good luck to all the players out there - and if you play at a casino out here, you're probably contributing to my salary :w00t:

Thats very simplistic, but more or less true. The win percentage on both slots and table games isn't as high as people may think, but the volume (drop and handle - amount of money taken in at tables and slots) is so high that casinos still make a ton of money.

Some Vegas tips:

If you are losing a lot, walk away and see some of the free things.

The slots seem looser downtown. Go there at night to see the Fremont St. Experience.

If you are driving, use the valet parking- Drop the car off at the front entrance and tip them $2 when picking it up.

Avoid driving up and down the strip. Use the parallel streets behind the casinos-much less congested. Better yet, use the monorails/trams.

I don't like the monorail at all - been on it twice I think. While I see the reasoning, I hate having to walk to so far to the stations at each hotel. It's not much more convenient than getting a taxi or walking if it's later in the day and not so hot.

Although seeing the numbers, the monorail does pretty well after some early glitches, so it must just be me that doesn't like it.

Better rules/odds on various games at some of the off strip casinos. Of course, you lose the top shelf talent so it all evens out in the end.

If you enjoy gambling....oh wait....it's called "gaming" now, right Nose  (there's that marketing at work), than it is just another form of entertainment with the added bonus that you might actually win.
