B-Man Posted September 22 Posted September 22 LIBERALS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THIS AS MARKETS ARE AN INCOMPREHENSIBLE MYSTERY TO THEM: The real reason Jimmy Kimmel was sacked. I AM not in the least surprised to see the US media and Democratic Party go into meltdown mode over the ‘indefinite suspension’ of Jimmy Kimmel Live, with talk of Trump firing comedians, destroying freedom of expression and taking away democracy. I am surprised and disappointed to see many in the British media, who I thought were slightly more sane, falling for the same hogwash. Jimmy Kimmel, one of that new breed of unfunny comedians, has hosted a daily late-night show on ABC for the last ten years, during which time his ratings have dropped by a third, hardly surprising as he has insulted half of his audience night after night. His suspension was imposed after three days of mocking and making sick jokes on air about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. According to the commentariat over here, this is dangerous censorship, an attack on free speech, state control of the media, blah, blah. Such claims expose a total ignorance of what has been going on in the US. Kimmel’s ‘sacking’ was a business decision, pure and simple. Anybody who has watched the output from the left-wing US media such as ABC, CNN and MSNBC, will know that they still devote every hour of the day to virulent anti-Trump propaganda and lies. The idea that their bosses now want to suck up to the President is beyond ludicrous. The reality is that Kimmel’s sickening rants over the last week led to many of ABC’s affiliates pulling Kimmel Live from their channels – in the US, large TV companies such as ABC rely on these affiliates to carry broadcasts to local cable viewers. Large affiliates, including Nextstar, Sinclair, Gray and Tegna all pulled the programme. Nextstar’s CEO cited a ‘breach of journalistic standards’, while Sinclair’s executive chairman David Smith called the remarks ‘divisive and irresponsible’. With this wholesale loss of syndication, coupled with advertisers also pulling ads, ABC had little choice but to dump Kimmel. https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/the-real-reason-jimmy-kimmel-was-sacked/ .
The Frankish Reich Posted September 22 Posted September 22 So nobody watches Kimmel, nobody cares what he thinks. He's the Poorly Rated and Very Unfunny Jimmy Kimmel. Yet somehow the FCC Chairman finds it absolutely critical to threaten owners of local affiliates about "hard way" consequences if he isn't taken off the air. 1 1 2

The inverse will be the rhetoric when his suspension is over in 3 years. "Jimmy Kimmel is back and just what we needed." ..."after 3 years of all of us having to watch what opinions we shared for fear of political retaliation we can finally laugh again. President Newsome to make the appearance on the first episode of Kimmel setto premiere Thursday will help us remember it's ok to laugh and we are going to heal a divided nation with humor." Kimmel will be back and it'll be hilarious. 1

All the MAGAs screaming it wasn’t about censorship but about viewership are lying. I wouldn’t watch Tucker if you paid me but I don’t care that he’s still spouting bs that even he doesn’t believe. Dummies will listen to him and believe him. Dummies don’t get Kimmel tho I’m not sure I’ve ever watched an entire show. I don’t really care about it being canceled. I care how it was cancelled at the behest of trump’s fcc and as a warning to other media. Edited September 22 by Joe Ferguson forever 1 1

Carr made his threats on Benny Shyster’s show. Then the affiliates capitulated and finally ABC did. your theory would require this sequence of events to be coincidental 1
The Frankish Reich Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Kimmel himself has been very quiet about all of this. I suspect there's some kind of cooling-off period and a behind the scenes negotiation about some kind of apology ("I'm sorry that I obviously offended some people ... that was never my intent ...") and a return to the air until his contract expires, with some kind of understanding about no jokes even tangentially related to Kirk. Why? Well, ABC/Disney probably don't want to be seen as fully bending the knee (or bending whatever) to Trump. I'll admit it's a total guess. They could be negotiating a buyout instead ... 1

Maybe they are really just trying to go after GMA. Did you know that Kimmel is a nice lead-in for that particular show that starts 6-7 hours later and that tv channels don’t change themselves when powered down? Don’t believe me? Ask C-Section. 1

I don’t see it happening. At least not until this deal goes through. https://www.thewrap.com/nexstar-tegna-merger-antitrust-fcc-paperwork-september/ Even then, there are many more actions at the fcc’s disposal to stop his return.

I know he was your favorite because of his edginess. You told us so. Don’t despair. Late night “comedy“ will be back bigly and soon enough. All my best to you as you seek out a suitably edgy replacement. The weenie on HBO seems like he might be your type. Keep me posted. Edited September 22 by JDHillFan

We've just spent the last 6 months hearing the lib propaganda machine tell us that Trump is going to cancel future elections and declare himself President for life. If they truly believe all that nonsense how can that be possible? So which is it? An authoritarian future or democratic elections.

So far they have not and that's why we are warning people of the possibility.
