Deone Walked broke the cardinal rule of blocking for FG's which is always taking the guy to your inside. For whatever reason he let the guy on his inside go and took the guy on the outside. Maybe blocking for FG's is new for him but that's a boneheaded play every coach through little loop would be pissed about.

Yup I said in another thread that everyone was celebrating after the kick and you can see Walker walking off the field what looks to be frustrated or angry. He knew he screwed up and almost cost the team the game. Hes gonna get chewed in ST meetings.

Good news is it went through and I bet he won’t do it again now

Yep. That is what I saw too.

I was glad it was a chip shot.

So the teaching for a wing position on Field Goal is to step down hard inside and then punch with the outside hand to detour the furthest rusher outside. It’s clear Walker got it in his head that he wasn’t going to allow #2 to get around the edge and forgot his teachings

The inside is quite different , if you have ever noticed the interior players all have their feet crossed over the other to essentially create a wedge and to eliminate inside pressure. That’s why you rarely see someone coming up the middle on attempts besides when someone gets bowled over.

Interlocking legs/feet crossed, essential.

At least Walker did that...because it caused Hamilton to hesitate/jump, slowed him down just enough.

As I said up thread, most fortunate thing was Hamilton took a horrible "launch/block" angle.  More vertical than horizontal.

So Hamilton screwed up too, basically tried to volleyball spike/block the kick, as opposed to laying out for the front of kicker.
