Love him or hate him, Bostonian Bill Simmons produces good content and his website, The Ringer, is free.

You can't ask for much more. Today he has separate pieces ranking every NFL Offense for 2025 and every NFL Defense for 2025...

https://www.theringer.com/2025/08/21/nfl/ranking-nfl-defenses-2025-seattle-seahawks-houston-texans-philadelphia-eagles

Both are written by Sheil Kapadia. Because they list every team, the pieces are abbreviated but it's good fodder for discussion.

More importantly, The Ringer is free and is an above average site for sports and pop culture articles... so bookmark it.

And God knows you guys need something else to chew on... I can just hear the gnashing of teeth while reading through the same old stupid topics here...

Please enjoy.

Not exactly free. I spent a few minutes on those elementary generic takes on the Bills offense and defense! But sure, I agree. Not as good as the old Simmons site, but yuppie enough to look sophisticated and nuanced.

I'm curious by what you mean when you say "not exactly free?"

As for the quality, I prefaced by saying essentially that no ranking of 32 teams is going to be solid writing... it's too abbreviated. It's a Cliff Notes.

If you want to evaluate the quality of the writing, look at one of the profiles:

The great Kris Kristofferson can help us here: "not exactly free' = Nothin' -> As used in these sentences:

"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose. Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free."

The Janis Joplin version (iconic) . . .

"The great Kris Kristofferson" is exactly true... he's written some of the greatest songs in the last 50+ years.

For my money, the best version of Me and Bobby McGee" is the Grateful Dead version.

But @Thrivefourfive was wrong and misleading... The Ringer is absolutely free and has high standards for their content.

I need to check out the Grateful Dead version. Thanks, Sierra.

I’m sure he was referring the economic concept of no such thing as a free lunch, as the opportunity cost weights in. 🤷‍♂️

Jerry's guitar is pretty emotive and captures the sadness of the song... I never quite understood Janis' treatment of the song.

Sheil Kapadia sounds like it would be Sal Cappaccio’s pseudonym or something

Funny synchronicity right now...

I read your comment which was funny standing alone but just as I started laughing my wife's phone got a Bills text alert with the "hey-ey-ey-ey" from Bills Shout... kind of like a Hey-oh!
