You guys are ahead of me, so I’m curious to hear your thoughts. My Doc (who we LOVE) gave me a thumbnail sketch of options for the type of lenses available. It may have been a bit of overload, tbh. What kind of lenses do you have and why? Are you happy with the selection? What are your suggestions?

I have the standard lenses, which don't correct vision problems like near-sightedness or far-sightedness.   They fix the diminished sight caused by the cataracts, so if you started wearing glasses when you were young, you will still probably have to wear them.  That was fine with me because I was very afraid that my sight couldn't be corrected enough with glasses so I could continue driving.  After my surgery, I passed the vision test for my driver's license without glasses, and no longer have that restriction on my license.   I still wear no line bifocals because I can't stand fooling around with readers.

The more "advanced" lenses (and probably not paid for by insurance) can correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and even astigmatism (I think).  I believe some are bifocal as well.   If you want to toss away your glasses or contacts permanently, these more expensive lenses are what you want.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m sure every situation is different. I’m riding along knowing I’m approaching the fringe of needing to make a call and I like hearing various opinions.

My implants are also the standard. I do have 20/20 vision now. Something I did not have before surgery.

I'm very happy with the outcome Augie.

Also standard lenses and 20/20.  The lenses to fix everything were about 1k and the insurance wouldn't pay. So have $5 readers when needed.

Had the basic lenses.  Doc said the fancier lenses start at $700 more per eye.  I have Medicare. Sice it is major medical, it was covered. No cost to me except buying the eye drops.

Had eye exam at Lens Crafters this AM. Getting bifocal lenses replaced with readers. Will be getting them in about a week .  while I was there, I think I got a message from beyond.  When I was walking out of there, I started getting back spasms. A good friend from when I lived in CA  died at the time I was in the Lens Crafters.  Got a call a couple hours later  from another friend out there telling me the bad news.

Are you saying that you got just readers from Lens Crafters? Walmart, Walgreens, CVS etc, sell them for $10-$20... hope you didn't pay more than that.

One of the reasons I’m in no hurry to act is I don’t need readers now. My distance is good enough, and I read every day easily with no glasses. At times in the past my eyes and prescription have required readers, and I’m kind of spoiled now not needing them. It’s not a big deal, I’d just leave pairs everywhere and carry some around, but this is nice.

I just got the test. I am getting the bifocal lenses replaced with ones for near vision.  My one eye was worse than the other. Don't want to mess up the other further in the future, After my kidney transplant, I don't cut corners with anything to do with health.Make all my appointments and follow their instructions to the letter. I am retired and will only use the glasses indoors. My brother works outside and is always losing or breaking  his readers he buys at the drugstore.

Do you argue with the cashier over the extra 50 cents every time?

Things at the Dollar Tree and Dollar general should all have the same price….a dollar. It’s not “A Buck and Change”.

The Dollar Tree used to be "everything is a dollar" but a few years ago they raised their price to $1.25.   I haven't shopped there in a couple of months, so they may well have gone up to $1.50 by now.

I guess it’s OK, if the Ohio State University can play in the Big 10.

In the last few months, I've noticed how hard it is for me to read small writing or see my phone clearly without holding it far away from my face. I'm gonna set up an eye appointment, but definitely a noticeable difference in my vision recently. I'm 44
