Actually, it's called a flat tax.

That’s one way to do it - if you want to hit working people harder while letting the rich keep skating. The wealthy don’t live on income; they live on assets, investments, carried interest and tax-free growth.

As long as we only tax wages and leave wealth untouched, they’ll keep slipping through the loopholes.

Trump knew exactly what he was doing when he trashed Biden’s IRS funding - he made folks think the audits were coming for them, not the billionaires actually dodging taxes. Smart spin. Total scam.

Don't forget hospital systems, big pharma, and provider groups. They benefit too. Everybody loves to wail on the insurers but reality is they're the only player in the system that has any motivation to control costs.

So you don't think we're spending enough?

If our elected officials really wanted to do their job…they would restructure our entire healthcare system. We pay 18 percent of gdp for hc and it doesn’t cover everybody and sends millions into financial distress. The cost of hc is what cripples our country. Other first rate countries provide hc to all for 9.8 percent gdp.

So instead of doing actual work we play games with “work requirements”

Our govt blows.

Nobody believes this *****. Typical right wing lies.

That some State cover Illegals with Medicaid? That is true.

Appreciate the link but let’s not pretend the Tax Foundation is the final word here.

Yes, the federal income tax system is progressive on paper. But let’s not confuse who pays more in raw dollars with whether the system is actually fair. Wealthy individuals absolutely pay more in taxes - because they make exponentially more money. That doesn’t automatically mean the system is fair or that they’re overburdened.

The ultra-wealthy also benefit from tax shelters, step-up basis, unrealized gains, and capital gains rates that are far below what regular W-2 earners pay. Some billionaires pay lower effective rates than middle-class workers. That’s not a glitch it’s by design.

You said “pick one,” but fair share, tax rates, and wealth taxation are all part of the same conversation. Pretending they’re totally separate is convenient if you want to dodge the bigger issue because you're out of your league, but that’s not how this works.

So sure, I’m happy to debate any angle you want but let’s not confuse motion for clarity. I’m not pivoting. I’m just not playing whack-a-mole with cherry-picked stats.

So, we began with the point that the top 10% were paying 70 (it looks like it's 75%). Where do you think it should be?

Hospital systems are screwed. Especially rural ones. You’ll see multiple small hospital closure and possibly some systems

also let’s get it straight that the vast majority of those who will lose their Medicaid are not illegals. I believe I posted an article yesterday that showed out of 11.4 million who will lose their coverage, 1.4 are illegals

His mother may well be on it and could lose it. Wonder if he’ll cover her.

for me, that's the worst part of it. I have in-laws in some smaller towns in AZ and NM. The hospital is what separates the surviving towns from the dying ones.

Rural hospitals are communism. Real Americans die from pneumonia in silence, right @Big Blitz?

One of the reasons my town has become popular for retirees and others is a very good small hospital. It already picks up many of the difficult cases from several very rural hospitals. When those go under, ours will be slammed. And it’s not that big. Glad I’m retired. Hope I dont get sick.
