Whats the actual plan.... on Defense

I'm one of the boards most vocal Mcd detractors to be sure. I believe he should go, and far too many resources get allocated to the defense as long as he remains. But today's question is more about the bull heated nature of that plan, even on the rest of the defense.

This regime has made 11 picks in the first 2 rounds, 4 of those were DL picks, 1 LB, 1 CB. In addition to those they've obviously also signed Miller/Floyd/Jones etc. That's obviously enormous investment, and we know it hurt the offense, but how many times do we have to watch it not work on D before we acknowledge that it's hurt them too? Or maybe that whatever the plan is sucks all together?

For the 4th straight playoff exit, pressure on the QB was non existent, and run defense was weak. Their were certainly injuries this time, but it's left people saying man, if we just had that LB we drafted in the 3rd round, or that 6th round CB, we could have won. If Hyde and Poyer were younger, we could have won

In the end, the obsession with an ineffective DL rotation, left us crossing our fingers that mid and late round picks overperform, and left them with no defensive depth. Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Actually it’s “ Insanity”  … expecting different results…  😁👍

What we ABSOLUTELY NEED is two additional starting quality WRs to compliment Diggs, Shakir and our TEs, imo it’s a must have,

Our defensive is predicated on an overly complex scheme that is not workable at the end of every season since it’s inception, due to injuries that always happen because it’s football, convincing Sean to think outside the box and make necessary adjustments to account for the schemes failings is where the issue lies, somebody needs to have a heart to heart with him, so to speak, jmo.

McD is not good enough to win the way they want to win. He is not going to stop KC (or CIN or whoever) enough to allow a grind it out offense. We need to outscore teams on O. I trust that approach much more than McD outscheming a good team in the playoffs.

we need to get bigger and more aggressive on D.  Mcdermott’s defenses get consistently get bullied in the playoffs.  Brady brought that change to the offense.  Now we need it on the defense.  I absolutely loved the physicality Dorian Williams played with on Sunday but he was one of the only ones.  Milano and Taron are great players.  Poyer and Hyde were great too, but all of them are undersized.  We have too many light in the ass players on the defensive side of the ball and it catches up to us in january.

We've given up 36 ppg to the Chiefs in our three playoff meetings.

And, in fairness, KC has had an elite defense all year and if not for some drops and one iffy decision by Allen at the end of the game, likely lose because they couldn't stop Josh Allen.

McDermott and Beane need to read the room.  The NFL does not want low scoring defensive games in the playoffs.

How many holding calls do you see called during the regular season?  How often do you see it called in the playoffs?  The games are called differently, they let guys get away with more.  It puts defenses at a disadvantage.

You need a couple studs and then fill in around them to a level where you're not exposed.  Chris Jones made one big play.. He pushed Dawkins into Allen, which took KC from down 4 with 2 minutes left to up 3 with the ball after Bass missed a FG.  Game.

Hopefully 4 years straight of our defense getting absolutely dominated in the playoffs leads to a mentality shift when it comes down to a hypothetical decision between a Leonard Floyd and a Deandre Hopkins in the future.

Floyd is great.. but he's not a difference maker when it matters.  He's not Chris Jones.  He's not Aidan Hutchinson.  He's not Nick Bosa.  So in the Playoffs, he can be neutralized.

If McDermott can't coach up a mediocre talent level defense to an above average level, there is no reason for him to be here.  This off-season, with limited resources, needs to be about identifying who our core defensive players are, filling in around them with lower draft picks/team friendly contracts and using what little money we have, along with our high draft picks towards giving Josh Allen the best offense he's ever had.

Sounds like McDermott needs a meeting with the Bobs

This is exactly what I feel about McD. There is literally nothing he brings to the table as a Head Coach.

His side of the ball gets lit up in every big game despite giving himself tremendous resources, he’s still a horrendous in-game manager, he has trouble hiring good coordinators, he gets worse in the playoffs…I really just don’t get it.

I don’t know how people want to keep a coach that doesn’t actually excel at anything and has no strengths as a Head Coach.
