Bills won on last play of game 3 times last year - is that the difference between seasons?

Could the difference between last year and this year simply be the Bills had the ball last with under 2 minutes to go in the game a lot last year and haven't this year?

Baltimore, Detroit and Miami all came down to the Bills kicking a FG to win with no time left in both Detroit and Miami and :02 seconds left against the Ravens.

Would we have seen the same collapse if the other teams had gotten the ball last year?

The only defensive stop I can remember from that year late in the game to win it was against KC where Taron Johnson got the INT to seal it after Knox caught a TD.

IMO, the best way to stop losing these games is to ensure Allen has the ball last because h is money in those situations.

As bad as the D has performed late in games to close out, Allen has performed amazingly.

Yes.  We don’t have a closer on defense.  We had a glimpse of one in that game against KC.

IMO, what it boils down to is that the defense didn't have a chance to blow those 3 games (BAL, DET & MIA).

Its not just that we dont have a closer on defense. 4 losses this year are on a defense that cannot get a stop when needed the most. McD consistently keeps doing the same things when they a) Dont work or have stopped working and/or b) when his defense is completely gassed.  Soft zone is questionable when the game is not on the line but INSANE when you need a stop. Blitzing is very effective at some points in the game but not in others (McD has never figured out the right time this season). If your defense is gassed then maybe sub in more backups. That last drive in OT for the Eagles was brutal to watch. It was every bit as bad as the inevitable TD drives that the Pats got against the Falcons in the 2017 SB or KC in the 2018 AFC championship game. Or as bad as the KC drive against us in OT after 13 seconds.  If your defense starters are exhausted then how can it be any worse to get backups in there? Why would you have any confidence in your defense's ability to get a stop for you by that stage of the game?

And this is why I basically said in another thread that it's mind-blowing that McD blew those two timeouts and sat on the ball with 20 seconds left in regulation because he trusted his D to make a stop in OT more than he trusted Josh to make a play.... and why he let Brady/Josh go for the TD with 1:54 left rather than try to wind the clock down and then score.

At the end of the game, the ball needs to be in the hands of your best player.
