'We Came, We Saw, He Died': Democrats' Breathtaking Hypocrisy On War Powers

Ed Morrissey

After last night's strikes on Iran, Democrat politicians reached screeching levels of hypocrisy over Donald Trump's decision to act rather than wait for an Iranian nuclear weapon deployment. Chuck Schumer demanded action from Congress, as did Hakeem Jeffries. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez led calls for impeachment. Practically every Democrat on Capitol Hill -- with the notable exception of John Fetterman -- rushed to promote their "authoritarian" narrative about Trump.

All of this venting reveals very short memories on the port side of Capitol Hill. Fourteen years ago, they couldn't get enough of presidential strikes on a nation in the very same region. Remember Hillary Clinton's chortling over the fall of Moammar Qaddafi and the role she and Barack Obama played in it? "We came, we saw, he died," she raved to Leslie Stahl after a joint US-EU bombing campaign decapitated Qaddafi's regime, and left a failed state in its wake

{snip}

The wisdom of that Libyan operation is not the issue here. Neither is the wisdom of last night's operation, although the Iranian nuclear-weapons program certainly has far more connection to American security than Libyan rebels did in 2011.

The issue at hand is the hypocrisy of those who cheered the 2011 operation, but who now insist that such use of American military forces without Congress' approval is somehow illegal or unprecedented.

 “They can stomach many things, but losing to Trump — especially on issues as consequential as this one, is not one of them,

hence the pearl clutching, handwringing, and gaslighting about the nuclear site strikes and the ceasefire deal.

It simply does not compute with them that it’s Trump, not Obama and not Biden, who is the actual anti-war, peace through strength president in this scenario, bless their hearts.”

Israel were going to attack Iran in April. Trump convinced Israel to hold fire for 2 months whilst Trump had one last attempt to give Iran a chance to end their nuclear weapons program. When Iran would not do business, Israel started a series of devastating attacks on Iran, wiping out the top echelons of the military and their top nuclear scientists. Trump convinces Netanyahu not to delete the Ayatollah. Then Trump removes Iran's nuclear program with a precise and decisive military strike. Three days later, Trump brokers a ceasefire.

Now imagine how this situation would have played out under Kamala and Tim Walz...

Sucks, but it’s what you have to do when the looming thread of fascist abductions is ongoing.

Obama deported more people.

Only difference is they left sanctuary cities alone for the most part and the media barely covered the ICE operations.

Just because you harbor self-hate doesn’t mean we should absolve our country and dissolve borders and the importance of legal citizenship.

Obama never had ICE abduct people waiting in line for their legal immigration processes. Obama never had ICE attack senators and mayors, or try to raid a MLB team ballpark.

Thats what’s so appalling about Trump’s plan. It’s FAILING. He isn’t anywhere NEAR his quota, despite all the unbelievably cruel and disgusting methods that he’s employing.

The people are pushing back more and more. We are identifying ICE operations and warning people in advance. We are denying ICE entry into our private property. We are winning in courts.
