Killed by police

Recommended Posts

Let's start here:

New hires, mandatory four year degree dual major criminal justice and psychology

Mandatory de-escalation training every six months

Every interaction with the public, body cam not on, you are fired

Mandatory racism screen every year

Mandatory psych e v a l every year

Mandatory town halls in the community you patrol

Every use of force requires body cam any at least one other before initiation

Civilian oversight board

No qualified immunity

Thats the BEGINNING.

Why would anyone oppose?

Yeah — what you’re proposing isn’t unification. By any stretch.

Pro tip - this is just the tip of the iceberg. The heavy handed police approach is FINISHED.

I mean why have a constructive convo when we can disparage?

Fair enough. The mandatory racism screen every year just tickled the ***** out of me. The college requirement part got me too, but to be fair you do touch on some decent points in your list.

Body cams are a good idea. I don't think there's any reason they shouldn't be standard in every metropolitan area. Occasional de-escalation training and psych evaluations are fine. I think the frequency you suggest would be overkill, but the idea itself is reasonable.

Qualified immunity is a bit complicated. It varies by state, but should probably be modified wrt civil cases in most, provided the state/municipality insures the officers. Outright abolishment is going too far IMO.

I don't know what you're saying in your second body cam item, and the town hall part sounds like a den mother idea, so I would scrap both of them.

I do give you credit for putting some thought into this rather than just spewing vapid sanctimonious bull#### like so many others have been. I'd apologize for calling you an idiot, but with DC Tom in exile somebody had to initiate you.

Love this! And who knows, maybe ALL the ideas i mentioned suck. I just wanted to get some points out there that we could use to get the ball rolling as the current model is NOT working.

Only reason i added racism screen ( and yeah i have no idea what that even is but since we are the richest country in history we can probably figure it out) is the FBI's report that White Supremacist groups have infiltrated LE on the town, county, state, and federal level. Should i link the report?

I did. Long ago.

Funny how this outrage has been absent in your posts while talking about the Russia investigation — which was an abuse of the worst kind on multiple Americans.

That’s why you’re a joke. You’re silent until your masters program you to be outraged.

I could care less if you call me a joke and reference this or that. Go for it. Even if you are correct, and burn me, i will be "oh no exposed" in front of like 12 ppl that post here. You got me!

Bigger fish to fry. I don't care what your timeline is for me or how you think i should share my opnions. I'll do me, you paint yourself in to a corner.

Oh and keep moving those Trumposts!

“Even if you are correct”

I am. The evidence shows it. That you still deny this, and fail to see the connection to the cause you’re currently spun up about, shows how uninformed and useless you are.

Keep drinking. It’s really helping your cognitive functions.

I want to start this thread by saying that I am in 100% agreement that the officers involved in George Floyd’s death should be prosecuted and dealt with accordingly. The video is heinous, and justice should be sought out. I believe almost all Americans believe that to be true.

ok, so now to the meat of this thread... what are the protests supposed to bring to light? We all can see, and agree that the officers looked to be in the wrong and should have been fired and held accountable. And they have been. They are going on trial for murder... good!

But, is this an issue that is a national epidemic, or is it an isolated incident to promote a political ideology? Are black people being targeted and killed at a higher rate than other races? Or are these rare and infrequent accounts being prostituted out to a far left media to dog whistle communist activists and to play on the emotions of people they want to keep down and dependent?

Now for statistics... black people commit over 50% of the violent crimes in the USA. But almost twice as many white people are killed by the police every year. So, what is the social injustice? Because a random ######ed cop was caught killing a black man on camera, yet twice as many whites are killed by police every year(armed and unarmed... the numbers stay consistent).

It would seem that the extremely rare killing of an innocent black man is being sensationalized by a media with a political purpose. And no one wants to be labeled racist or insensitive in today’s climate, so we all go along with it and ignore facts. Was Floyd’s death terrible and horrific? Yes, absolutely! We all agree! But is that a commonality with law enforcement country wide? Absolutely not! These riots are insane and meant for only a political purpose.

But, I expect nothing less from the politics, ideas and groups that supported slavery, segregation, KKK, and Jim Crowe... Dems always trying to keep minorities in their place and keeping the divide. No wonder they all support the riots and want them to keep going, it’s their pay day. It’s quite disgusting

What do the relative numbers of white people and black people killed by police look like when normalized per capita?

According to Fatal Encounters, the database created by former Reno News & Review editor and journalism instructor Burghart (which tracks all deaths resulting from interactions with police), a total of 1,388 people were killed by police in 2015, 318 (23%) of them black, and 560 (40%) of them white. So roughly 23 percent of those killed by any police interaction in 2015 were black and just over 40 percent were white. According to those statistics (adjusted for racial demographics), black people had a 2.7 higher likelihood of being killed by police than whites.
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/do-police-kill-more-whites-than-black-people/

Blacks make up 13.4% of the population.  So a smaller absolute number of deaths can mean a larger number of deaths per capita and a larger likelihood.

So the first step is to admit you don't know what you're talking about. You are clearly not black. So maybe just take one moment to ask yourself -- do you know what it's like to be black? Do you for sure?

Then maybe you don't know everything, and could stand to listen. There are a lot of voices right now available with social media, podcasts, videos, whatever you want. Seek out black voices who are trying to explain this for the 1 billionth time.

White people especially love to pretend racism does not exist. Love to pretend it's already solved. It was solved by Lincoln. It was solved by MLK. It was solved by Obama. Throughout your post, your entire point is that "This isn't a problem. Why are they making it up?"

You don't know what you're ***** talking about. The idea that you somehow went through this week, assuming you're aware of even a percentage of the videos released JUST SINCE FLOYD'S MURDER, and are still confused about "what it's about"

This is willful. This is you making a choice to close your mind and say you have done all of the learning that is possible. Racism, if it exists, has been solved as much as humanly possible. These are the things you are saying explicitly and implicitly in your post.

And stop getting all of your facts ABOUT black people FROM WHITE PEOPLE and then insisting YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

That would be a good start to learning.

You're all sorts of fun following me around tonight. Another go-to move by racists — ask them to name a black person, and they're going to go: Al Sharpton, Obama, MLK, Shaq.

What's incredible is the racists never consider that they are oblivious. They're so sure they've got it figured out. You never meet a racist who's like "I'm not sure, I could learn more." They always know everything. And like a child they have no idea what a giveaway that is.
