PromoTheRobot
I wonder if Vogl plans to send money to bars and restaurants, etc. that he won't be able to go to. I mean it's their livelihood. Edited March 16, 2020 by PromoTheRobot
Nextmanup
I'm curious what folks here think about the regular season starting back up. My position is that the regular season is done right now. The bigger question is what in the world are they going to do about the playoffs. The factors that have "postponed" the season right now are going nowhere come playoff time, and in fact, everything will be a lot worse by then. I fear we will miss the playoffs, or all games will be played in empty arenas, which is almost like missing the playoffs anyway. Won't be the same. I think it all depends on what happens over the next couple/few weeks. Everything seems to be closing rapidly right now, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they do cancel the rest of the season. The last time it happened was during the 1919 Stanley cup finals iirc. I believe they were in game 5 of the finals and just cancelled the Stanley cup for that season. Ill be interested to to see how they decide draft position if they do.

They always say if you're within 0 points of the playoffs by St. Patrick's Day, you are 100% going to make them.

JohnC
1 hour ago, BillsFan4 said: Update It's unlikely the season will resume. The experts are unanimous in predicting the virus situation in the upcoming months will get worse. The players are now dispersing and going home. So even if there is a return date they will have to practice together for some time before resuming games. In addition, before returning the players will have to be tested for the virus, and it is probable that some will have the virus and will have to be quarantined. The health of the players and the surrounding population is obviously the most important consideration. From a hockey developmental standpoint players such as Mittelstadt and Ukko-Pekka needed all the playing time they could get in the AHL for their individual progression.

BillsFan4
https://theathletic.com/1683491/2020/03/18/senators-player-becomes-first-nhler-to-test-positive-for-covid-19/ Senators player becomes first NHLer to test positive for COVID-19 Quote An unnamed Ottawa Senators player tested positive for the virus, the team said in a release late Tuesday night. That player is experiencing mild symptoms and is now in isolation. It is believed that multiple Senators players are ill and awaiting test results to determine how many been infected. The team recently completed a trip through California before the NHL shutdown play last Thursday afternoon. It’s possible the infection occurred when the Senators played at the Staples Center after the Brooklyn Nets — the NBA team that has now had four positive COVID-19 tests — faced the Lakers in Los Angeles. It’s a good thing they shut down when they did or chances are it could have spread pretty quickly through the NHL ranks.

Dealing with players infected with the virus is a relatively simple matter. All players and staff will be tested for the virus before resuming regular work activities. That's an easy issue to deal with. The challenging issue is how do you hold a large populated event where some of the attendees will certainly be infected with the virus even after the epidemic of infections has been declared over? If you have five people infected with the virus who are without symptoms in a crowd of 18,000 people you are creating a risk situation that could exponentially spread in a short period of time. I don't see the season or the playoffs resuming this year, even for a delayed and abbreviated playoff schedule. The bigger question is when will the safe conditions exist for the next season to begin? Needless to say we are in uncharted territory on how to conduct ourselves not only as fans but in how we go about our lives. When a new normal replaces the old normal it can be disorienting.

The only definite for us is we certainly don’t want to do anything around a resumption of play this season that will impact our ability to have a full season next year,” Daly said. “So that’s kind of the outside parameters and rules we’re following currently. Everything else is kind of up for grabs for lack of a better term. There are lots of possibilities. We do have people working internally on those scenarios and what they look like and what the feasibility is.” During other parts of that interview, and in other media appearances, Daly emphasizes how “fluid” this situation really is. Ill be pretty surprised if the NHL is able to resume their season at this point.

No one can say what the future holds for this virus. But it is starting to become evident that there is no quick remedy to this plague. I don't foresee a resumption of hockey for this season, and that includes a version of the playoffs. It's not even certain if a normal scheduled hockey season will happen next season. This virus is going to reside within a segment of the population for a long time. And that will result in the necessity to continue on with some form of social distancing. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/u-s-coronavirus-plan-pandemic-will-last-over-18-months.html
