The Truth Hurts

Recommended Posts

As an aside, shouldn't the phrase really be, "I couldn't really care less?"  I mean, "could really care less" means that you care a bit, and that there is a lower level of caring that you could do.  It's never made any sense to me.

Maybe I overanalyze things. :)

I think you just might over analyze things, but you're right - kinda' like when people say "needless to say..." and go right ahead and say it anyway. What's up with that?

Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brett Favre......will have to wait possibly on McNabb or da Peppah.

I'm pretty sure that Bledsoe will be retiring long before all of those players, except possibly Favre.

And all of them will pass him by into Canton. Drew is like the unfortunate soul at the deli counter with the #75 ticket and the ugly hag behind the counter barks out "6"!!!!!!!

Exactly, and this is the reason why Bledsoe is almost certain to make the HOF.

Folks love arguin' (and more power us as part of bein' a fan is about arguing arcane football stats) but arguing whether Bledsoe will get into the HOF as though HOF entry is only about measuring performance is incorrect.

The basis of it is statistical performance, but the final decision is in essence a popularity contest by the HOF commission.

QB is given far too much credit and blame by fans as the NFL loves to market its product around individuals (which is ironic since for me it is a great game because it is among the ultimate in team games).

The HOF Commision will almost certainly honor a QB virtually every year (when was the last time the HOF Comm skipped honoring a QB in a year? I don't know). In my mind Favre is a far better candidate for the honor than Bledsoe, but among the folks Bledsoe is likely to compete with for this honor, my guess is he will beat them out quite easily.

The folks named in the post quoted strike me as far more deserving candidates than Bledsoe, but he will not have to compete against them for the HOF honor because retirement dates should make him eligible several years before they are up.

It is a different question whether he deserves to get in based on his accomplishments, but I really don't see how he is not going to get the honor.

Given the competition of QBs who should retire in the next few years (Tony Banks, Jeff Blake, Doug Flutie) Bledsoe is in like flynn and seems to me to even deserve it more than these players and much of the competition besides Favre. Do folks want to argue that Vinny Testaverde deserves it more? This is actually probably going to be the debate.

2003. They also skipped them 2001, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996 and 1995 over the last 10 years which is 70% of the time.

No......Brady has 3 Super Bowl rings......Favre has 1 ring, and is/was the anti-thesis of Bledsoe. If the media brought out the knee pads, it was for Favre, not Drew. And Manning? Well.....Manning took Bledsoe's idea of statistical glory and added a heaping pile of steroids to it.

It has never stopped people before, so why start now.

If we just eliminate the years without QB's being inducted, every year we have had a QB inducted within the last decade. :)

If Drew Bledsoe makes the HoF, he'll be the worst pure QB in the house. Not even close.

Seeing as he's definitely not a slam dunk to make it,

who on the HOF committee will champion Drew for induction (ala Felser for Kelly)?

The New England area members saw first hand the great things that happened as soon as Drew sat down / left town...

and I don't think any Buffalo writer is gonna pick up the cause.

I'm not sure where you get your math from, but last season we lost twice to New England, once each to Pittsburgh and the NYJ.  Each of those teams had 10 or more wins.  That makes 4 losses.  We beat the Jets at home.  One win.  Record: 1-4.

In 2003 we lost to New England, Dallas, Philadelphia, KC, Indy, Tennessee.  Each had 10 wins.  That makes 6 losses.  We also lost both games to the Fish, who finished 10-6, though out of the playoffs.  We beat NE in the home opener.  Record against playoff teams: 1-6.  Record against teams with 10 or more wins:  1-8.

In 2002 we lost the only 2 games we played against teams with more than 10 wins (Green Bay, Oakland).  Record: 0-2.

That makes 2-14 against teams with more than 10 wins in games started by Drew Bledsoe.

I apologize for the typos in the initial post as that obviously caused a misunderstanding.

we beat the dolphins twice in 2002, and they finished 10-6.
