Clear and massive upgrade.

Maybe Sunday is the worst week ever see out of Peterman. I think we all agree that the Saints game is the worst will see out of Taylor.

Peterman and 1/2 of the Chargers game:

14 passes

6 completions

0 sacks

5 interceptions (1 pick-6)

66 passing yards... even more interception return yards.

4 rushing yards

4 first downs

Average starting field position given to opponent while Peterman played: Buffalo's 49 yard line with 49 yard average distance to score. That's obviously without the pick-6.

Tyrod Taylor in 3 quarters of the Saints game:

18 passes

9 completions

2 sacks minus 6 yards

1 interception (returned 27 yards)

56 passing yards.

27 rushing yards

4 1st downs

Average starting field position given to opponent while Taylor played: Saints own 36 yard line with 64 yards average distance to score. That's with the interception return off Clay's drop, otherwise it was the 28 yard line with an average distance of 72 yards.

Both these guys were baaaAAAAaaaad, but Peterman was historically bad. Hell the team practically gave up around him. The D gave up over 300 yards and 37 points in the first half alone! At least it was just a 2 TD game (as opposed to a 30 point game) against the Chargers.

I hope Peterman gets better, but I'll be happy if I never see him start another game again.

Peterman will get another shot.  Maybe not this week but down the road.  He processes things more quickly than TT and gets the ball out.  Got shell shocked last week by a pass rush that was on him within a second or two.

I like TT, but whether you can go all the way with him would depend on having a very strong D, and an O line that can make the run game effective.  We don't have that right now.

He got the ball out quick a couple times but was baited into a pick.  He has no pocket presence right now, and is a turnover liability at this point.

What locker room? most of our players shouldn't be starters in this league. I dont see how you can dishearten them and make them play poorly when they have done just that their entire career. A fifth round rookie LBer looked better on the field then Humber has.outside of Tredavious white is very good other than that Micah Hyde, jordan Poyer, Kyle, jerry Hughes are serviceable starters but they arent play makers they're more complementary players, Hughes can generate pressure but doesnt seem to be a factor when the situation around him isnt well, hasnt been consistant since he was the only dlineman that wasnt a probowler.  Kyle has really regressed this season. There are no impact players on the roster outside of shady...none. We could release 5-7 players on offense and nobody would notice11

The season was contingent on the defense rebounding from the Rex era and the offense maintaining the same level it had performed previously. Both hasn't happened in the past few weeks and as an result we have lost games. Both the offensive and defensive lines needs to be fixed next year. I wouldn't want to put any rookie QB behind the line we have right now.

Even if we draft a QB early next year I am reconsidering keeping Taylor for another year as I just don't see this team being close. For me a rookie should be put in if you have a strong team that can carry him while he develops and gains experience like the situation Roethlisberger was in with the Steelers.

Ummm... the difference is that Tyrod Taylor is a clear and massive upgrade over the guy who he would remain on the bench for if he were to stay there and every single player knows that.

You really can't say the same for any of those positions you just brought up.

Hughes hasn't done much since Mario Williams left. No skill positions early in the draft next year other than QB. The top offseason priorities should be DT, RT, DE, and RG.

Quite simply.  Quarterback is not the same as every other position.

And any coach who treats them the same is a fool.

The starting Quarterback is the on-field leader, and easily the most important position on the entire roster.  Anyone who argues this point either doesn't know football, or trying too hard to have a differing opinion.  The decision to change your starting QB should never be taken lightly.  Smart coaches do everything in their power to avoid the QB controversy.  Not only does it disrupt the entire timing and working of an offense, but it mentally divides the players in the locker room.

Over the last week, it became very obvious how well RESPECTED Tyrod Taylor is - both in the Bills locker room and around the NFL.  There were numerous players from other teams tweeting about how stupid McDermott's decision was.  That should tell you something.  And how our coaching staff couldn't see it (or refused to see it), is beyond me.

And even if you believe Nathan Peterman is eventually going to be a fantastic QB in this league, he is still a 5th Round Rookie - playing the hardest position to transition from college to the pros in all of sports.  Use some common sense.  At best, Peterman was going to play OK and have some growing pains.  At worst (which is what happened), he was going to crash and burn like 95% of the late-round rookie QBs to enter the NFL.  There was no way Buffalo had a better chance with Peterman in the lineup.

The quality of the other players has nothing to do with it. As a player all they ask is the coach gives them the best chance to win. That entails playing the best players at each position. If the best player is a POS, so be it, but he's still the best player at that position on the team. If the majority of the team thinks TT is the best QB (and judging by Sunday's performance, I doubt there are any who believe it to be Peterman) then they won't be pleased if he's not out there starting until they are officially eliminated from the playoffs.

The fan's perspective is different. We've mostly given up on this season and just want a better draft pick and to check out young players for next year. But I guarantee the players in that locker room haven't give up, at least the ones with any amount of competitive spirit.

Losing the locker room isn't some made up term that people throw around. The coach has to have to respect of the team for them to fully by in to what he's selling. If he doesn't have that respect it's virtually impossible for him to do his job.
