wgr 550 just mentioned Hughes was sat down in the Steelers game as a form of discipline for arguing with Rob Ryan last week about this crap defense.

Remember in October how Rex bragged about is brother and the job he was doing with their red zone D? I haven't heard him mentioning it lately.

I found an article from 2011 that had Rob lamenting that the Cowboys (where he was DC at the time) spent more time studying red zone D than anybody and he didn't understand how they were so poor.

Hughes and Lorax seem to have disappeared with the return of Dareus and Lawson. No idea what that has to do with anything but it's interesting.

Because the team has stopped playing 8 man fronts or blitzing. They are putting more players in coverage to help the DBs and are hoping that with Dareus back they can hold up vs the run without 8 up front and pressure the QB without blitzing. This has made it easier to handle the pass rush in general, hence the "disappearance" of Hughes and Alexander.

This was mentioned in one of Gleason's articles today

Ryan was asked about Jerry Hughes, who was benched to start the game. Ryan claimed he was merely rotating players. It was true, but he conveniently left out the fact Hughes was disciplined for telling off Rob Ryan during a heated exchange last week.

When asked Sunday what the dispute was about, Hughes said, “You have to ask the coach about that.”

Doesn't seem like Jerry's exactly buying into what the coaches are selling
