Shelton Info from Insider

Feb. 25 - The Cardinals have granted Shelton permission to seek a trade, and the left tackle has high value now that Walter Jones has signed a new contract with the Seahawks.

Shelton's most likely suitor appears to be Buffalo, but the Cardinals might be backing away from a proposed Shelton-for-Travis Henry swap because Henry has only one year left on his contract.

Shelton visited Buffalo last week and underwent a physical. The Rams, Bucs and Bears are also reportedly interested in Shelton.

Also a new blurb with not much different on Travis

Feb. 25 - Even though the Bills have given the Cardinals permission to arrange for Henry to visit, a trade between the two teams doesn't appear imminent, according to The Arizona Republic.

"We haven't had any talks beyond that," Buffalo president and GM told the paper.

It was previously reported that the Bills are working on a trade that would send Henry to Arizona in exchange for offensive tackle L.J. Shelton, who visited Buffalo last week and took a physical. However, because Henry has only one year left on his contract, the Cardinals would like to have him signed long term before pulling the trigger on a trade.

Henry, slowed by foot and leg injuries last season, lost the starting job to Willis McGahee, who is slated to be the top back again next season. Henry was limited to just 326 yards on 94 carries with no touchdowns in nine games. He had rushed for 1,000 yards yards the previous two seasons.

Looks like IF this were to happen the Bills are going to have to throw in some picks.

Throw in nothing. Henry is a better player than Shelton. Henry lost his job to potentially a top 5 RB. Shelton was benched on a horrible team. You know what you are getting with Travis. Shelton is a crap shoot. The only thing that makes the trade close to even is Shelton plays tackle and has a favorable contract to the team he is traded too

I agree, Travis is a known commodity, Shelton has yet to live up to his advance billing, If Arizonoid is afraid of the trade, fine, we can move Travis to other teams.

A simple question that should be able to answered with a straight-forward response: What did Shelton "who had yet to live up to his avdvance billing" do that got him an FA contract with a $3 million bases salary over several years and a substantisl bonus which has already been paid to him?

I didn't get that at all from these blurbs. My take was that Green has said Travis has to agree to a longterm contract or no deal. Nothing about picks. I think it is common sense and something every team would expect.

He was given that contract because of his durability (until last year) his ability to play through pain (ankle injury) and he was the most consistent lineman on the team. He was a team leader and was a positive influence in the locker room. He is a very serviceable LT but got benched because of being overweight and the fact that the cards paid Leonard Davis top money in 01 and essential he was being groomed to be the LT.

Drafted 1 st round 1999 Missed rookie training camp during protracted contract negotiations … signed Sept. 25 two games into the regular season ankle sprain in second half of seventh start Dec. 12 at Washington effectively ended his season … replaced by Matt Joyce … Friday inactive next two games, game-day inactive for season finale at Green Bay (Jan. 2).

2000 opened at left tackle at N.Y. Giants (Sept. 3) but suffered right-knee sprain on first play from scrimmage and did not return … inactive for next two games …

2001/2002 Played full seasons, restructured in 2003 with a team (and player freindly) contract,

2004 Started 9 games, Demoted after injury, no longer on depth chart

To answer your question, he started and completed 2 full seasons out of the 6 he has been in the league.

My point is, if Arizona feels they are giving up too much in this trade, then they should look to the draft, or take a peek at Ricky Williams or Lamont Jordan, I don't think it is imperative that the Bills kick in any additional compensation other than Travis Henry.
