They did mention Bath, but it could include everything to the Pennsylvania border. Last summer when 86 was detoured into Salamanca it was real poverty until we got to the casino on the back roads. It was good place to grow up, my wife is from Horseheads and I have a lot of friends from the area. Moved to NYC area after college, there wasn't much for me there anymore. It's still a beautiful area, with some nice people. I used to think about bringing my family back up there one day but it doesn't seem like a great idea anymore. Captain...I grew up in Elmira and went to St Casimir's and St Patrick's before Notre Dame HS where I graduated from in 1978. The Elmira then was a thriving place compared to what it is now with welfare,guns, drugs and urban decay. Its dam shame. ....I'm lucky enough to have a good job in Elmira and live in Horseheads now. ....It's still a beautiful area with some nice people if you can get a decent job and live in the right part of Chemung County. We have the Sabres AA minor league team in the ECHL and a great performing arts center where I'm seeing "the Producers" in three weeks. Of course the Finger Lakes are near and WGI. ....I'm not sure if there is a solution anymore. Gas drilling was seen as a Godsend by many and that didn't happen so back to square one. Where as other parts of the country retooled and got away from heavy industry, this area didn't. Corning Glass made changes and is doing well in the tech field. Corning, on the other hand, built Market Street. Unfortunately, it's a long walk from parking in Elmira to shopping in Corning, even with a stopover at Tags. So, you're not standing in line to check out one loaf of bread or whatever and then have to wait behind some idiot spending their week's pay picking out different lotto cards. They didn't just build parking garages, they built Riverfront Park so there would be a place at night for the crack whores and drug dealers. A woman I grew up with was murdered in Caton the other night. Her father was in the fire dept. with my Dad and I worked for him over the summers when home from College. This is some dark ****.
