Good GM moves vs. Better GM moves.

Recommended Posts

Kiko for McCoy gets the Bills an excellent 26 year old running back with a 40 million contract, This seems like a good GM move.

but a better GM move would have been drafting Lev'on Bell in the second round instead of Kiko in the first place. This would give the Bills an excellent 23 year old running back with a 4 million contract, and lots more cap space for other players.

We didnt think we would need an RB in 2012... Remeber, CJ had just come off the one good year of his carer

I don't understand this "why just wait and sign Demarco Murray " argument. First off, it takes two to tango & who knows if Murray would even be willing to sign here.

Second, there is no way they get Murray @ a 5.5 million dollar cap it this season- was never going to happen.

Third, Murray has a long injury history & last season was really his only season he produced at a high level and stayed healthy.

Fourth, opportunity cost. If they sit around waiting til the 10th, who knows if McCoy is even around to be acquired.

McCoy is also the better all around RB then Murray, no doubt about that. 2 1st team All Pro and 3 pro bowls under his belt.

McCoy is also used to playing in the cold & snow being a life long PA resident- Murray is a dome player

So, perfect hindsight makes a good GM a great GM. Wow. Deep stuff.

In all my history of hindsight drafting and other roster manipulations, I've yet to add a player that wasn't an All Pro or future HOFer.

GO BILLS!!!

In truth in the 6 years Whaley has been with the organization the Bills have added four outstanding players. Mario Williams, whom they made the highest paid defensive player in the league. Marcell Dareus with the #3 overall pick in a draft where 9 of the top 15 players (including the first 7 picks) have all been outstanding players. Sammy Watkins, who used 2 #1 picks (and maybe missed on true franchise QBs in Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr). Lesean McCoy at a position that only that saw only 1 of the top 8 players at the position make the playoffs last year. (they already had the ninth highest paid in Spiller.

It really doesn't take incredible talent to overpay for top assets. The investment in draft picks and money in these four players, if the Bills don't make a deep playoff run in 2015, it should be considered a failure by the Bills front office, led by GM Whaley.

That's a lot of wind from someone who lacks a time machine.

What if Bell blows, Fred declines and Boobie can't carry the load all season? McCoy would look pretty Great.

I also enjoy the fact they decided to gloss over stealing Cordy Glenn in the 2nd- one of the best young LTs in the league. Also drafted Kiko Alonso in the 2nd who he turned into an a 2 time All Pro RB in his prime who leads the league in rushing over the past 5 seasons.

Found Kiko's replacement and one hell of a player in Nigel Bradham in the 4th round . Add in PReston Brown in the 3rd round & Kiko became very expendable.

Traded Kelvin Sheppard straight up for Jerry Hughes who had turned into one of the leagues best pass rusher

Starting RT Seantrell Henderson in the 7th round. Signed Brandon Spikes to turn one of the worst run d's into one of the best.

This analysis is a fail on several levels, not to mention the fact you state your opinions as if they were fact.

It is my opinion that it is only your opinion that it is a fact that he states his opinions as if they were fact.

The quality of the acquisitions is undeniable, and Spring is almost here.

Agreed. Spiller had over 1,700 all purpose yards the previous year, to go along with 8 TDs. In limited action, no less. At that point, it looked like we had our feature back.

The defense, on the other hand, was coming off of one of the worst performances in the history of the franchise.

The Bills went QB in the first round, and WR in the second, before they turned in their card for Alonso. Picking a playmaker on defense, at a position of need, made only too much sense. Whether or not Kiko is currently a Bill, no one can argue that this was an exceptionally strong pick, and a testament to the viability of the Bills' draft board. Selecting a player who was a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year at the midpoint of the second round-- with pundits and insiders claiming that there were better defensive players, and better linebackers still on the board-- is a feather in the Bills' cap, and not something that we should regret, even in hindsight.

Jesus, it bugs me to no end those that say DW whiffed on EJ.. No one here knows how much EJ has progressed last year sitting. Let's at least see TC please before we throw out the judgments. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that under DM, we really don't know what we don't know.

Thank you Captain Hindsight. Your arguments are debatable, but I for one would rather have a GM that takes chances to try and make the team better than one that just sits back and does nothing. I applaud Whaley for making moves to try and improve the team. I don't think there is any question that this roster is way more talented than when Whaley took over as GM. No doubt in my mind that we have a more athletic, more talented roster.
