Running back Ronnie Wingo was among the Bills’ cuts this morning, I’m told. Team must get down to 75 by tomorrow.

No surprise here: 38-year old Brian Moorman has won the Bills’ punting job. Harvard’s Jake Dombrowski was waived this morning, per source.

The team announced that place-kicker Dustin Hopkins was among 11 players released today. The move was not a surprise. Most teams do not opt to keep a kickoff specialist, and Hopkins never was a threat to Bills place-kicker Dan Carpenter, who was signed to a contract extension in the offseason.

Also released were: quarterback Dennis Dixon, receivers Tori Gurley and Chris Summers, running back Ronnie Wingo, guard J.J. 'Unga, center Macky MacPherson, defensive tackle Damien Jacobs, safeties Derek Brim and Jajuan Harley and punter Jake Dombrowski.

Hopkins was another genius move by the Bills burning a draft pick on him. I would not be surprised to see Dixon in St. Louis as a backup

Hopkins got hurt. Kickers don't get hurt much. Not sure you can really bad mouth the team for that. Then they picked up a guy who had one of the best seasons in Bills history. The only reason Hopkins doesn't make the team.

Blame the team for drafting the punter who sucked, but not Hopkins.

Hopkins could be back for a PS spot since it has been expanded to 10 spots.

FWIW, Hopkins was pretty bad prior to getting hurt, at least from what I saw.

2013 preseason kickoff stats

2013 preseason FG stats

5/5 on FGs, but with a long of 39. Very poor on KOs. And the one day I was able to make it to camp, he was comically bad on FGs. He had like 3 or 4 straight kicks that he "popped up" that landed well short of the goal posts. Probably either a mental problem or a weird technique error, and correctable I'm sure, but not a good sign nonetheless.

The other thread is getting buried so I will repost here.

Cuts are not a big surprise. Although a little miffed by the kickers. Dombrowski seems to boom some huge ones, but gets some really bad ones in there as well, I guess they sided with consistancy with Moorman, he is consistantly below average. Also I thought Hopkins would make it to 75, he took all the Kickoffs the other night. I am not and was never a fan of the kickoff specialist, so I am glad he is gone. But jeez, why can't this kid learn to kick field goals effectively. Carpenter had some absolutely booming kickoffs in both directions against Pittsburgh, we will be just fine there.
