Draft Strategy for 2014

If Watkins or even Evans are at nine you really gotta think long and hard on this one.

If both are there i will be stunned ,and not surprised if neither are still on anyone's board. Both stocks are raised from the Combine .

I still say take Ebron. If he's projected to be taken in the 1st round. We need that type of threat on the offense. Then Round 2 Grab your WR. It's supposedly a deep WR draft. Big Weapon at TE is must have for this team.

Something about Evans just screams bust to me. I can't really put my finger on it, but I think it's a combination of watching his highlight films and being very disappointed, having Manziel create plays and throwing to him for two years, and being a combine heroes.

In my opinion, we have to hope Watkins drops and if not, work to trade out of that spot. Even if we can't trade out of that spot, there's still going to be a stud there without having to reach for Evans at 9.

I haven't been Evans' biggest supporter, but I am starting to think he is the missing piece to the Bills offense. I don't think it was Manziel bailing out Evans. I think it was the other way around, Many times, Evans was done with his route and Manziel was running in circles then just throwing up prayers. Evans is not a finished product and that has been my knock on him... but I think with SJ and Woods being great route runners with a lot of polish to their game, Evans could be insterted into this offense in a big way and with the new WR coach(s) (including Hostler) I am thinking he could be a beast and a huge help to EJ especially in the red zone and those back shoulder fades...almost impossible to defend.

two questions. Do you really consider SJ13 a good route runner? Part of the fuss many had last year was EJ could not find him on the routes.

And do you really want EJ running around Manziel style? With our line and two ad lib route runners I think it would be sloppy.

Do you really consider SJ13 a good route runner? Yes

And do you really want EJ running around Manziel style? No - I didn't say that, I said that Evans bailed him out when he did that.

Problem is, that stats and history aren't on your side when you take a TE in the 1st, let alone top 10...best thing the BILLS can / should do, is wait to the 3rd or 4th Round a grab a guy like Fiedorowicz, who has solid but not eye popping stats and had a good but not great Combine...showed strength and some agility...that's the kind of guy who would do well in Buffalo...the Graham type, just doesn't translate well to Buffalo...at least not currently...and, Fiedorowicz type of TE allows you to disguise run or pass...IMO

Perhaps. I like the idea of Evans, a big guy, fast, good hands, red zone target. But watching him left me concerned. As far as who helped who on the A&M offense, I tend to think that once a QB breaks the pocket and buys time scrambling, it makes the job of the WR much easier. It's very difficult for DBs to stick with WRs for more than a few seconds, especially when lanes break down and they have to worry about running up to support stoping the scramble or finding the WR that's now running wild.

That makes sense. They likely helped each other in that offense. Evans looks very natural in his skill set.

The combine reports are what has me turned into a fan of Evans, thats if we cant have Watkins.

Ebron . BigBuff423 is more along my thinking . Bills are better suited for a traditional TE with good mixture of both run and pass skills .

With Ebron going as early as nine , someone is trying to hit a Jimmy Graham homerun . I dont see that for the Bills and i dont think Whaley / Marrone see that either.

I think its WR vs Mack for the first pick. those 3 gone, we get the franchise RT of the future solidified .

This is for my own information...Considering the Bills already have SJ, Woods and Goodwin, not to mention Graham, Easley, Hogan and about 15 other guys, how does Watkins fit? I thought the idea for drafting a WR at #9 was to add a big/tall one, in which case, wouldn't Evans be the logical choice? With all the other needs the Bills have, taking another mid-sized WR at #9 looks a bit like a luxury pick. Okay, someone who's a Watkins supporter, set me straight.

Well, look at it this way. Currently the Bills have two number 2 WRs and some specialists (Goodwin for speed, etc..). Watkins is a real deal number 1. Evans could be, but less refined and rougher than Watkins.

I am not sure they could go "wrong" with either WR at 9. They are very different, but each would provide a major weapon to the Bills' offense. I am excited.

Agreed! Evans just worries more. I think bigger bust potential. But they could both be awesome. Never know!

Thats my current opinion. Watkins had the lead going into the combine .

Dubs i feel ya but read everything you can from the pundits about Evans in Indy . I have changed heart and will accept Mike at nine with open arms . And if Mack is there and both WRs gone... man i dont know. Thats brutal! Robinson Matthews or Mack
