Ndamukong Suh FIRES Agent Roosevelt Barnes

Worth pointing out that Eugene Parker was NEVER Suh's agent.

The guy who was apparently fired is Roosevelt Barnes. Barnes does work in the same firm as Parker.

LaCanfora tweeted that Suh might want to hire Jay-Z.

A quote from Parker in the article says, "'I can tell you this, ’Damo has been paid more money over the first four years of his contract than any player in NFL history. So Rosey did such a great job he got fired.' Demo is a reference to Suh, while Rosey is Roosevelt Barnes’ nickname among the duo."

oddly enough, people who are down on Eugene Parker and Byrd, by extension, fail to realize that Byrd is in a better position to cash in entering this offseason than he was a year ago.

either he gets the lucractive contract he was asking for a year ago from the Bills

or

he gets the lucrative contract he was asking for a year ago from the Bills from some other team in free agency.

or

he gets tagged by the Bills and is in line to make about $15 million in two years, which is probably about $7 million short of the guaranteed money he was looking for out of a long-term contract in free agency, and gets another shot at free agency a year later.

but please, explain to me how Eugene has failed his client in this situation.

Sounds vaguely familiar to what some people were saying over the summer.

guess, i'm being consistent, then.

actually, i'll do my best to acknowledge being wrong when i'm wrong (because i can be as hard-headed as most).

but i don't see how the situation has, at the very least changed, or weakened Jairus' position here as some were speculating -- wishing? -- would happen.

not true.

true

hmmm. you fail to take into account his earning potential in 2015. which, combined over a 3-year period would, more than top the guaranteed money he was looking for last year.

funny thing about this "often injured" label you place on Byrd.

in five seasons, he's missed seven of possible 80 games.

they're not losing. in fact, Parker has proven his point so far. one way or another, Byrd is more than likely to get the guaranteed money he was seeking when contract negotiations first began in 2013.

far too much is made in regards to these "highest paid safety" claims. the key to any deal as any player and agent knows is the guaranteed money. Byrd was expected to be looking for something in the $22-$25 million range. he is well on his way to getting that -- and more.

by comparison, what did the Bills get for their money. a Pro Bowl caliber player who wasn't ready for the start of the season and potentially cost them a win or two had he had a full offseason to prepare. foot problems or no, it's quite likely Byrd would have been in a position to be more willing to play in the opener against New England knowing that he had the security of a long-term contract to support his future.

then there's the case of Byrd eating up a roster spot while not playing the first five games, and thus forcing the Bills to bring in another safety. it paid off with Leonard, but a case could be made that the Bills could have used that spot for another position -- say QB? -- had Byrd been ready for the start of the season.

the Bills, it appears, under-estimated Byrd's resolve to see this through to the end and the contract dispute didn't help them. now they find themselves back at Square 1 having to determine whether they have the stomach to go through this whole riggga-marrolle again. at this point, don't they have to given the money they committed to Byrd last year?

All fair points except the last one regarding the BILLS paying him in the future for their committed money last year...I understand that the BILLS don't get better by letting good players walk to other teams. But, this team is also not just one or two positions away from being a perennial contender, they need at least five or six signficant upgrades in talent. This overhaul has taken years and by paying Byrd too much - say $8 or $9 mill in guaranteed money the next couple years - they would commit a huge investment into two players, which I'm not a fan of Super Mario's contract either - when others need to be addressed. They would essentially, IMO, place themselves in a golden wheelchair...really nice looking, but still crippled by over-extending money into just two positions, neither of them the QB and one of them at least potentially mitigated by either a Rookie Draft or another player already on team, i.e. Searcy. I have no qualms with Byrd as a player, business man I'm not so happy with, and if he can get that money somewhere else, God Bless him...but IMO, if he doesn't play for the $6.5 mill average, I would rather see the BILLS tag him and trade him...and use that money on the Offensive line and maybe a Corner where a Defense really relies on someone to stick to the WR like wallpaper......

No....they are one position away. QB. True story.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel the same way... If you put Peyton Manning on this team, I feel like we're better, or at least nominally equal, to the Broncos. Stick any top 8 QB with us, we're into the 2nd round of the playoffs, and easily.

Unfortunately, the time it might take EJ to get to be a top 8-10 QB and be what we need (obviously a big IF he ever does), it might be 2 or 3 years down the line, and Kyle will be worse, Mario will be worse or cut, Branch will be ineffective, Darius might have walked for money elsewhere, Byrd will likely be gone, McKelvin is probably back to earth, Fred is gone or a shell of what he was...

So the team we have today, with the stars we count on, won't be here when we make a major run, unless EJ makes a MAJOR jump this offseason, so much of it falls on keeping kicking the draft's butt, so we can have comparable talent when we finally have the QB in place... But the talent has peaked this year. Hopefully reinforcements come to replace the ones that fall off while we wait for the QB position to peak.

I don't even know why I got on that tangent, sorry.

If anything, Byrd's position strengthened. My big question is will Parker demand a true market deal, as if 2013 FP salary was never paid, or will they settle on some compromise with the 2013 salary as part of the down payment on the long term deal? I can guess what Parker's ask will be. Still, I could see his contention that Bills had a huge bargain with Byrd still playing out his rookie contract. But that excuse won't fly this year, with $7 million paid in 2013.

The problem with this statement / argument as I see it, is that many say, "We're just one Franchise QB away" from being a Super Bowl contender or a very good playoff team, when such statements related to Tom Brady or Peyton Manning is that they are *such* rare finds that at this point they are first ballot HOFers. And pinning all our hopes on the BILLS locating, cultivating, and providing the necessary culture to get a HOF QB is myopic in perspective and in my mind, signficantly poor planning. Do I HOPE EJ is a HOF QB one day? Well, duh..of course...do I think that if EJ does NOT provide the demonstrated growth as a QB the BILLS should Draft one next year? Yes...but that being said, few teams are able to get a HOF QB right from the start and win a Super Bowl and some teams are able to provide a great team dynamic *DESPITE* the QB or have the QB peak at just the right time, ala Eli and Flacco. So building a multi-talented team approach is more resistant to injuries and consistent success while hedging against intermittent failures. Build a good to great Defense, establish at least one dynamic WR and a solid Offensive line that can run-block with a good, maybe just average QB, and you at least are taking the approach that a team will not need to game-plan for just the QB. Is there any doubt that Peyton Manning will be a HOFer? Nope, not to me...but the one year Indy won the Super Bowl, it took a great defensive effort to get that win and a team that was NOT a great Defense during the regular season, but relied on them in the playoffs. Moreover, you could argue that guys like Marino, Fouts, and Kelly were outstanding QBs but yet failed to win the Super Bowl while guys like Phil Simms (good, but let's be honest about his abilities), Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien et al. all have rings...you can't say a QB is the cure all, not in today's football and certainly not in the football of years ago....it takes a total team effort to do so...and, this team needs five or six upgrades in talent and production before the BILLS can be a legitimate Super Bowl caliber team.
