Mickey Kaus is NOT SO IMPRESSED WITH OBAMA’S INEQUALITY SQUIRREL:

You have to admire President Obama for choosing to give a speech declaring that the fight against “growing inequality”–specifically economic inequality–is “the defining challenge of our time” and the “focus” of “all our efforts”–given that:

a
. Five years into his presidency he so far hasn’t done anything to stop growing income inequality–the problem has gotten worse on his watch.

b
. He doesn’t have any proposals (“It’s time to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act”) that come close to solving the problem as he defines it.

c.
His one big previous initiative to reduce inequality–the Affordable Care Act–may now be hopelessly screwed up due to his own inattention and non-competence.

d.
His remaining big domestic initiative–”comprehensive” immigration reform–would almost certainly make inequality worse by vastly increasing the number of unskilled workers bidding down wages at the bottom of the income scale, with the profits from the cheap labor going to business owners at the top.

Well, but remember, the main point of all of this was just to give the (friendly) press an excuse to talk about something other than the ObamaCare debacle.

And to give the unfriendly press an easy pinata to whack at, so that they, too, will talk less about the ObamaCare debacle.

.

I'd guess most people growing up didn't look at Fast Food as a career choice. We all 'knew' it was a minimum wage job. Work harder...do what you need to improve yourself...or accept minimum wage jobs. Does everyone have to get a trophy?

Not to mention, it's not like working Fast Food is a dead end. If you work at a place like McDonalds, hate your work and pay. and think the best way to earn more money is to go on strike, I'd question if you're even smart enough to work at McDOnalds.

In the end, this is all just the WH getting the unions to rattle the cages of pedestrian discontent in hopes that people will stop discussing what an unmitigated failure Obamacare has become. Imagine how inept you must be to create a program that pisses off the vast majority of people who put you in office in the first place.

Maybe they can throw a couple of Newtown Massacre Parties to change the mood of the country.

why didn't I think of that solution! If everyone simply improved themselves then everyone wouldn't need to have a minimum wage job. If everyone were rich, then we wouldn't have any poor. Maybe we could solve all of our problems by making everyone a CEO? Geez, this simple...

They aren't "our problems", they are "their own problems". Why are you so keen on incentivizing poor and destructive behavior.

And there we have it.

Again, I'm convinced that you don't know what "Nazi" means, and I'm adding Fascist to the list.

Oh so that's why they brutally suppressed the labor unions. You must be so jealous

Labor unions, by their own by laws, are in opposition to individual rights. They are a socialist institution that asserts that individual rights don't exist, and that only groups have rights.

I simply summarized what you have pointed out yourself in this thread. You don't know what "Nazi" or "Fascist" means. Don't shoot the messenger.

Oh ya, that's the whole purpose of Labor Unions! Yup!

Clearly. It doesn't get much plainer. Unions work to strip the business owner (the individual) of his right to the freedom of association, and instead impose on him the will off his employees (the group).

Oh ya, without a doubt.

Now, what were the Nazis?

You're somewhat right here Reptile, labor unions really like to gain control of their member's pension plans. That's their other reason for existence.

So the union takes its pension from the union? How's that work?

Ultra nationalists who believed strongly in a strong central state, and the right of that strong central state to expand it's territory and express it's dominance over weaker nations via proactive warfare.

Are you calling James K Polk a Nazi???
