And hey guess what? The luxury suites will be carpeted, climate controlled...AND Color TV!!!

Those same TV's are probably still there.

Nice find

Yeah, it really was... Kelly is scared to death of large crowds and stupid people. I am trying to show her and find her clips of what the stadium is like when it comes to life and came across this. I saw it only had 240 views and figured there was no way that could be true. I still haven't found a good video to show her how loud it gets. Edited by jboyst62

I was probably only in 1st grade, in Tonawanda, when that was being built so I honestly have no idea what OP was like back then but looking at the aerial view in the opening of the video tells me that Orchard Park was nothing more than a cow town. There is absolutely nothing around from what I could see. It's amazing to me how much that area has built up from what I've seen on my trips up there recently.

Great Find!

Is it just me, or just that I currently live in California, or is ". . . and parking for Fifteen Thousand Cars" just not nearly enough for a stadium that big?

Even if every car is filled with 4 people, its still not enuf.

I don't care what anyone else says. This place is a classic. Great lines. The sub-grade field is what makes it I think. It seems to be infinitely upgradable. I mean, if you tear down everything what you have left is a 40,000 seat bowl embedded in granite that is not going anywhere for a thousand years, and which you wouldn't want to change anyway since it offers perfect views. You could build anything you want at grade level on top of the bowl to please the bean counters. Suites, hotels, shopping malls, casinos, and amusement parks.

I walked thru site as a kid since my grandmother lived nearby at property adjacent to stadium across creek.

That winter was very mild and I remember we could not even do any tobogganing since there was not enough snow.

Jeff Kaye was a great voice on the radio back then. Remember it well.

They already knew that Hammer would take the overflow in his lot.

My cousin worked on it, some good stories about overtime, corruption and how well it was engineered. They probably could dome it up cheaply because they sunk it down pretty deep. It also does have great sightlines which after the rockpile was a big concern to a lot of people.
