Chan was right

Two points to the OP (and I'm not disagreeing with your entire post):

1) The Bills offensive line is much better than Chicago's. In fact the Bears O-line is probably the league's worst with the possible exception of the Eagles.

2) Yes, the Bills defense is a bigger problem than the offense however the Bills offense has been terrible at ball protection and has given the ball away 21 times which is the second-worst figure in the league.

So when you evaluate offensive performance, you have to factor in that the Bills average losing the ball 2.33 times every game.

That's a very bad number.

Scoring points on New England shouldn't excite any team. The Patriots defense is almost as bad a Buffalo's lately. :w00t:

Yeah  the Patriots Defense is ranked 25th, Buffalo's 31st...both stink. Want to talk offense how a bout the 3 points the bills put up on the 49ers in that 45-3 loss

This Buffalo Bills team has shown they can pass (25th ranked) against bad defenses, and can run on anybody ranked (6th). That 6th place ranking should / would be 1st if Gailey would run the ball more. No other team in the NFL has 2 backs that are as good as Fred Jackson & CJ Spiller. Whats crazy is Spiller is averaging 7.8 yards per carry and he got only 9 carries vs Fitz 40 pass attempts.

Don't compare a team that lost its starting QB mid game like the Bears did because they were forced to run and the Texans knew it.

This is the major problem with most Bills fans is they see the Bills moving the ball and putting up 31 points and think "wow" this team is good! WRONG! They have the 31st ranked defense and they suck. They have the 25th ranked passing offense and the OC / HC keeps calling pass plays all game long instead of feeding that 6th ranked run game. Not only are they bad, both the HC and QB are losers who don't have a clue how to beat a good top team!

Cutler played the entire first half and produced 3 points while his running game was completely ineffective

The single biggest problem with the Bills offense, with Chan's play calling, with Fitz? ...They have to be near perfect.

Look at yesterday's game:

Pats* 1st half drive results were FG, TD, TD, TD, Halftime.

Pats* 2nd half drive results were Punt, TD, FG, Punt, FG

So, they had the ball for 9 drives (the one that ended the half, they only had 30 secs on the clock, so lets discount that one), and scored on 7 of them.

In essence, the defense is allowing opposing offenses to score at will; thereby, the offense has to play mistake free ball and feels the pressure to score on every drive. There aren't many QBs that can direct 4-5 scoring drives per game. But, that is exactly what our defense is asking Fitz to do. Fitz, IMO, is a completely aaverage QB - he's not horrible, he's not great - and our defense continually puts the offense in a position where he needs to be elite.

You just can't expect a team to win with any consistency when their defense is giving up scores on 7 out of 9 drives, even if that team is lead by the best QB in the game. My conclusion, Fitz bashing and any discussion of the offense is completely misguided. Our defense blows epically.

Yea, and if you listened to the announcers Cutler plays like that game after game and gets better as the game goes on. Also, If you watched the Bears this season you would know this. No doubt Cutler would have won that game for the Bears in the 4th QTR. Without him they are useless, I can't even remember the back up QB's name.

Not sure what on earth you're talking about. There was the fumble by Fitz, of course. But besides that, here are the other starting points for the rest of the Pats* drives:

NE 27

NE 17

NE 18

NE 20

NE 20

BUF 39 (idiotic special teams penalty on Brooks, not the offense's fault)

NE 20

NE 1

NE 32

NE 20

Just stop pointing out facts...It doesn't help here. It is all Fitz's fault. The defense will turn into a pass rushing nightmare for other teams all while stuffing the RB in the backfield as soon as we turn the offense over to a rookie QB.

Eh, nevermind. 'MikeBillsFan' is obviously just coming on here to push his web site. He has three posts and they all say the same thing, directing people to his site. Ignore him.

We could also expect the defense to catch either one of the two gift interceptions Brady gave us on the first drive. Maybe they make a play, at all in the game. Stop the other team perhaps? 31 points should win the game.

Yes. Our D stopped the Patriots (other than kneel-downs) TWICE all game. They scored on EVERY drive that mattered except two. That. Sucks.

31 points on the road and almost 500 yards of offense. Fred and Spiller both had over 100 yards total. We also lost a fumble on the one yard line. Not sure what else you want from the offense. The defense continues giving up 40 points a game, it wont matter what we do.

The biggest problem against the texans was we didnt get in the endzone. We moved the ball up and down the field on them.

To not turn the ball over 3+ times a game.

The Patriots defense is almost as bad as the bills. Against the Texans they did not even try to utilize the strength of their offense, the running game. Did you watch the Texans last night? Or the Falcons against the top five run defense cowboys two weeks ago? They stayed with their offense. IF, BEFORE THE GAME EVEN BEGINS, YOU HAVE LET THE DEFENSE TAKE AWAY YOUR STRENGTH-you have lost-and your coaching staff is admitting its beaten

The pats D is far better than the Bills. They only give up 22 ppg--same as the great Baltimore defense. They are 9th against the run--no different than SFand similar to Chicago. They are weak against the pass.

True. The Pats* defense had been allowing less than 100 yards rushing per game. We thrashed them for 165.

The Bears have Jason Campbell as their backup. You probably have not watched much football if you dont know who he is?

Well in that case, the OP's point--that Chan is right to not run against a very good run defense--was proven wrong by Chan himself agaisnt the pats. He called 15 running plays vs only 15 against the Texans.

The pundits were right. And Chan listened.
