Patriots sign TE Visanthe Shiancoe

Who the bloody heck would trust BB? I really hope he did not promise him something. I mean, wow.

With Brady on the Patriots he might catch 20-30 balls max. With Vick he might catch the same amount. Then figure which team will go further and you might slide with the Eagles. The market must be bottomed out on the Tight Ends.

The Eagles will go further? Further where?? They are the 3rd best team in their division. They are going nowhere with Vick/Reid.

Maybe he's working on a consistant 3 TE set for offense...

I wouldn't sneeze at it. Maybe it's the next big thing.

Few teams could stop Gronkowski and Hernandez. It was like having bigger, stronger WRs without too-too much of a sacrifice of speed.

Would create mis-matches in coverage against smallish CBs or stretch a team that doesn't have much for pass-coverage LBs.

Just, their OL would have to buy Brady marginally more time. And yet, through his career Brady hasn't had too much of a problem with pressure. Pats* have had some losses on OL this offseason tho.

Shiancoe is purely a depth move for the Patriots. Not a big deal really. He doesn't bring anything to the table that the Patriots don't otherwise already have. Kind of a yawner!

It's a move designed to inspire awe in all the Patriot* suckups. Then when it fails to pan out Bill makes another headscratching move to inspire more awe. Meanwhile the Pats* are spinning their wheels with Brady covering up how mediocre they have really become.

throw it to gronk (for 5 yards over the middle, where he brushes Poz and Donte aside) and he takes it strolls into the end zone from 42 yds out.

just a little color, hey it's the internet...

seriously though, after watching some of the vids posted here on Bradham, do you guys think that Nigel has the athleticism to run with these TE's? 'cause he sure does hit like a truck. Doesn't seem to be a lot of "sorry man, are you ok?" either. Just viciousness...

I have visions of Gronk going across the middle and getting blasted out of his jock by Bradham. Suddenly the entire Pats* receiving corp develops alligator arms.

But he seemed like such a nice kid in the interview with Hannah :bag:

Case and point: Albert Haynesworth, Chad Johnson, Alge Crumpler, Torry Holt, Joey Galloway, Fred Taylor, and Donte Stallworth. The New England Patriots love signing players who may be past their prime and hope that player turns it around. Which, in early years, seemed to work, like with Randy Moss or Junior Seau. The problem is, lately, this just hasn't been working out for them in terms of getting a lot from that player. Which, based on their record in recent years, hasn't mattered at all.

It's relitively cheap to do this and doesn't bind them to the player long term. The only problem I see with what they are doing is, it takes time away from rookies developing and building from within. So they aren't building a core of young players. This is compounded by the fact that they have been missing on recent draft picks. Sooner or later, one would think(or hope)that effects of this will be seen. But maybe with Brady, they don't need to.

You have the group who believe the Pats* can do no wrong and this is a brilliant move, and the group who believe the Pats* are reaching and trying to prove they're smarter than everyone else.

This is Visanthe freaking Shiancoe, folks. 32 years young. Folks were beating down his door so fiercely he just signed a one-year contract a day before training camp.

It's only "big" news because the Pats* did it. If he had signed with Philly there would have been a deafening yawn.

Move along, nothing to see here.

These above moves are equivalent to the moves that Daniel Snyder and the Redskins have been making for over a decade. They almost never work.

The Cheatriots**** need to get it together again personnel-wise. Since losing Pioli and Dimitroff they've sucked at player acquisition using the big-name/aging vet/lazy scouting approach to pro scouting and bombing in their drafts.

They USED to be good at player acquisition.

How does cutting Addai and signing Shiancoe help this team more then vice versa? Addai can run and catch and was not a bad blocker. They need more help running.

The've had Addai since signing him in March. That's a long time to get a feel for a player.

Maybe they don't think he has anything left in the tank? Just a thought.

Geez, if they suck so much come draft time and in free agency, how the heck do you explain them winning 27 games against just 5 losses the last 2 years?

Why of course. How could I be so blind

All kidding aside, my theory all along has been that the Cheating Bastards***** have done a poor job of player acquisition in the years 2006-2009.

On the pro front they signed fading, big-name guys who rarely pan out.

Draft-wise, since the departure of Dimitroff and Pioli they've not drafted that well, Gronkowski and Hernandez being noteworthy exceptions.

From 2006 to 2009 they had 2 first round busts, 4 second round busts, and 4 3rd round busts.

Their last two drafts have looked fairly decent though.

The Buffalo News' Tim Graham has ranked the best players in the AFC East. The guys I mentioned, Brady, Welker, Gronk, and Wilfork are 4 of the top 7 best players in this division. Only Gronk is a relative newcomer.

Matt Light has retired and Brian Waters may retire. Mankins is coming off a bad year. Much of their roster is either unproven or getting old.

The fact they went to the Super Bowl last year could simply be the last hurrah of a once-great franchise which has been replacing great players with mediocre players.

Brady, Welker, Gronkowski, and Wilfork.

Any other questions you need the answer to?

So 2 of the majors reasons they have succeeded to the degree that they have since '06 is because a guy they drafted and a guy they acquired?

Pioli--isn;t he the guy who, upon joining the Chiefs, immediately signed Matt Cassel for 63 million and traded Tony Gonzalez? And hired Charlie Weis?

Pioli was responsible for three of the 4 drafts (06-08) you say were full of busts, and you also say that 2 of the 4 drafts since Pioli left are looking good. So how can you logically claim that "since the departure of Dimitroff and Pioli they've not drafted that well"?

I think KC will win that division this year, and they already won one with him there.

I think it is silly for the other fellow though to say the Patriots have not drafted well or used FA well though.

to San Jose, if the Patriots have not done a good job, then every other team must really freaking suck then, because the bottom line is winning, and every person in the NFL will say that. Patriots win.
