DRAFT NIGHT PARTIES NEXT THURSDAY

Recommended Posts

I used to have a draft party every year when it was on Saturday. It was one of my favorite days for the NFL offseason of the year. We would go golfing real early in the morning, get back to my house around 10:30/11, get a keg & have one TV on the draft & another TV on the baseball/NHL/NBA playoff games that we were betting. The weather was usually decent & we throw some steaks on the grill later in the afternoon & there usually was a pretty good poker game going on that people would be able to jump into if they so desired. Some year I would get over 15 guys there. With that being said Greedy ass Goodell has ruined draft weekend for me since he insisted on putting it on a Thursday night. I will watch it when the Bills come up but that is about it. Don't watch it religiously like I used to.

Me too. My friends and I used to sit in front of the TV all day, playing cards, drinking beer, eating pizza. It was a great day. Not quite the same feeling when you know that you have to go to work the next morning.

I'm old enough to remember when it was on on Tuesday's in the '80s and ESPN (Berman and crew) used to cover it. I'd "get sick" that day and phone the picks in to my dad's bar to keep his patrons up to date on what was going on. See, young folks, there was a time before internet  .....

i think most of the people who enjoyed the draft on saturdays hate the move to weeknites... not to mention the spread over 3 days. unfortunately it doesn't matter how much you enjoy it, only that a few more people will tune it... cuz no one is really stopping watching it just cuz it's on thursday. it really does suc k though.

and i don't know of any public draft parties... sorry.

Shoretalk - There is one party that I know of.

Next Thursday (duh) @ Marotto's (56 Niagara Street, Buffalo NY).

It's located on the corner of Franklin and Niagara, right in the heart of downtown. It's right next to the pizzeria DOUGHBOIS.

$3.00 beers and ... FREE PIZZA (for a period of time, not sure how much he's going to put out but hey, if there's a big crowd there should be a decent amount). My buddy bartends there and is trying to drum up some interest for this.

Thursday is my anniversary. I told my wife who is 3 months pregnant with #2 that I was going to skip the draft party this year. She asked why, I said it falls on our anniversary. She said she didn't want to go anywhere or do anything and that I should go.....as I sat there stunned, I muttered , "meh i don't really care to go anyway"

I think this is a trap of epic proportions. What should I do TDB.....and yes advice is needed for once....

Draft parties are a thing of the past. Thanks for ruining an amazing day nfl.

An amazing 48 hours. Ah the good ol days. I remember waking up, walking to the couch, and staying glued for the entire weekend. The way they do it now sucks, but I guess they make more in advertising, and that's all that matters to the modern NFL.

I left Buffalo for sunny So. Cal. when I was 18 in 1980, I'm old enough to remember going to the main place mall downtown and watching them manually write the names down. Even then we couldn't sign Cousinuo

 Thanks ... my brother will be in from Virginia too so maybe we'll head down there to help your buddy out!

Is the pizza any good?

The fact that you smelled trap tells me you have good instincts. I think you have two choices at this point. Go out and enjoy yourself and just take what she says at face value.

If youre not fully sold on going out use it to your advantage. Just tell her "I decided since you don't want to go out and that I want to watch the draft that night to have a draft party with just the two of us." Make her a special dinner and stock up on her favorite snacks. This way you look like you're giving up something you really wanted (which you really didn't as long as you see the draft) and you score major points for being so thoughtful.

You must be with the wife or you could hear about it for years to come. Not worth the risk.

Similar situation here. She surprised me with tickets to Lewis Black and an overnight stay at the Oneida casino for Thursday! An early birthday gift. We've been married two years (though it's the second for both of us) and she wanted to be impulsive. My reaction was a forced "Gee, that's great." Finally I told her I had tix to the Bill's draft party at the fieldhouse but I was going to give them away. After a few days of forcing excitement for the upcoming trip she gave me a small opening to escape and I took it! I put the Lewis Black tix on Stub Hub today. Buy her some big-ass roses and go to the draft party. Text her half way into it and tell her she's the best wife ever. That's my plan.

I ain't gonna touch this one with a ten foot pole.

But if I were you I'd push my luck. Tell her that you and your buddies are planning a Vegas trip.

Sounds like you smashed through the window of opportunity and took some of the wall out, too.

I am going to wait until it gets closer...good advice though from everyone. Including the guy who told me to ready my divorce papers.

The thing is normally she is in bed by 9 from chasing the 2 year old and being at the end of the first tri-mester....dare I wait till she goes to sleep to slip out to the party? Does that make me an epic POS? Also, the air n sea show is that weekend and 3 buddies have a hotel for the weekend on FT Lauderdale beach. I have already gotten the go ahead to attend. I am thinking of just staying home and not pushing my luck.
