Will Buffalo's New Pass Rush Slow Down Gronkowski and Hernandez?

Recommended Posts

I think most fans agree Buffalo's D-Line has the potential to be sick. And while much of the focus has been on how the pass rush will help our DBs, I'm excited to see how it'll help slow down TEs Gronkowski and Hernandez in New England.

If your O-Line doubles on Mario Williams, you leave Kyle Williams and Dareus with one-on-one battles -- which was dangerous BEFORE Mark Anderson joined the team. The O-Line will need help from a TE or a RB. That'll force the Pats to keep Gronk or Hernandez back a little longer before.

Actually Bruschi (of all people) made a good point about this.

Before Williams and Anderson, you could just send your TEs down the field since there was never a reason to slow down the Bills horrid pass rushers at DE. Now, due to the talent of the DEs, you have to send your TEs to at least bump them which take seconds off their route and potentially disrupts the play each time. While guys like Hernadez and Gronk are talented enough in their own right, the NFL is a game of seconds and losing even a handful could be the difference between a 25 year bomb and an incompletion.

No, New England will continue to beat up on the lowly Bills. One player doesn't take a perennial LOSER, and turn them into a champion. Football isn't like basketball where one great player can make a big difference. New England will win he division again and the Bills will be watching the playoffs on TV. Same old, same old, nothing has changed. One player does not make a champion. You can take that to the bank!

UH.... in case you haven't noticed Buffalo has added more than just 1 player. I think you need to be made aware that this is NOT the same old Buffalo Bills. Change is in the air. Take that to the bank and deal with it. GO BILLS!!!

...Was the question about whether the Bills would win a championship or slow down tight ends? I think you missed the point while trolling too hard...

You don't know too much about football, do you?

To be honest, the play on the field and the health of the squad will determine everything. With the Bills recent spat of injury plagued seasons, if Mario Williams goes down that would be a huge blow. If Merriman is done, that is another. Or if Dareus goes down. Anderson could flop. It can happen.

But I don't think so. The 1 critical element missing from the Bills was a consistent pass rush. Now they've got one. They can afford Merriman to not return, if it was to happen. They have some talent AND depth. Add to that any potential draft picks with additional talent, and we could have 3-4 pass rushers on our hands. Not to mention waiver wire and camp cuts.

But I digress. My original question was that you don't seem to know much about football. Or the impact that a sustained pass rush can have on opposing defenses. IF the Bills can consistently get to the QB to disrupt or never allow the QB to get into the desired "rhythym", that is a huge factor. Increased pressure in alot of these timed offenses will...well...ruin the timing of the darned thing. If not sacks, then interceptions should increase, as a sustained pass rush makes a QB skittish, and becomes a situation whereby the QB throws more balls prior to be 100% set and ready. These makes for less accurate, off target, errant throws that have DB's licking their chops to get at some of those. Then the whole sack dynamic, and how it feeds a defense, forces an offense to account for it.

But when you've got the Lake Effect Pass Rush of Dareus, Williams, Williams, and Anderson/ Merriman...look out. Our crowd will eat it up. Buffalo will be a tough place to play again. The 'O' (providing health does not betray them again) will take the field, and open up the fast attack and all of a sudden, these teams are playing from behind, which will force them into pass- first mentality...which...will again FEED THE BEAST of a pass rush that we should have.

These signings have the potential, to send the Bills over the edge in terms of success. From mediocre to unbillievable!
