Really, Chef? Is that the best retort you can come up with? Let me raise you two more recent examples:

Birthers challenge Obama on 2012 ballot.

Fox News legitimizes GA Birther case.

Yep, I can see how that NY Times article is every bit as evil. Poor John McCain. When was that article published? 2008? Any more brilliant current examples you'd like to cite to bolster your argument?

That's the best I could come up with in the 30 seconds I had to look. And to you question regarding the date of the article. Ummmm, when was McCain running for Prez?

The same time Obama was. And the issue of birth only became an issue when people started questioning Obama's birthplace. I'll give you the rest of the week to find some more egregious examples of birther campaigns against other presidential candidates. Good luck.

Thanks, but I look at the crazy crap people say about Obama and have to wonder. We get it. He's a Democrat A "lib", though I could debate that. And we know Clinton was accused of crazy schitt too...even whispers of being Vince Foster's murderer. But I have never seen this birther crap with anyone else. And you have to admit the level of disrespect shown to our current president is unprecedented.

 Yeah, it's the worst since about 2008.

I really feel that much of this starts from a visceral reaction to having a black man as president, and those who run campaigns are just seizing an opportunity. Rob, LA, can you point to another reason that makes more sense?

How about "Because he's a Democrat, and the Republicans are playing by the rule 'Turnabout is fair play.'"

Most of this **** is just trivialities anyway..."Bush choked on a pretzel!" "Michelle Obama put honey on an apple!" If you want to attribute it to race, go right ahead. It reflects your shallowness more than anyone else's racial feeling.

And the more ridiculous thing, I think, is the First Lady being on Leno to begin with. Mixing politics and celebrity was never anything but disgusting, and it's getting progressively worse with time.

I'm sure some people do have a problem with his race but that shouldn't make it the default explanation for any criticism.

My main beefs with his policy is that he likes a lot more government intervention into economics than I do, & generally subscribes to a paternal view of government.

My problem with him personally is that he tends to demagogue and condescend waving his finger like he is a patriarchal figure rather than the head government executive.

You mention that you've never heard the kind of disrespect leveled at him as other Presidents. Regardless of whether I agree with that I can't recall a President so hostile towards the public. Flaunting that he won & the R's can get in the back of the bus, referring to those of us who disagree with his policies as the enemy, & the condescension that both he & his wife display shows a lack of class I've never seen before. That type of behavior breeds resentment regardless of race.

That should suffice.

Which points to our remarkable times that Obama is worse.

Sorry. The US has to be attacked again by terrorists and we have to start another pointless war to even approach the level of suckitude George W. Bush established. But reason is lost on Rightards. You're convinced Obama sucks and that's that. Eyes shut, ears plugged, neener neener.

You won't...because as I recall, there aren't any other presidents in recent memory that that "argument" applies to. A better argument for your case would be: McCain was born in Panama. Not in the US. Therefore, the birthers' arguments apply just as well to him as Obama. Why didn't they complain he wasn't qualified to be president?

And the real answer to that is: because they're idiots. And because "Barak Hussein Obama" sounds like a foreign name, as opposed to "John McCain". Less racist than xenophobia, I think.

And it's an awful leap of illogic to take the birthers' example, and extrapolate from that that ANY criticism of Obama is racist. And by "awful," I mean "completely !@#$ing stupid."

I'm not Rob or LA, but how about this as one of the reasons he is despised by so many people:

"Obama blamed Bush four years ago saying: The problem is, is that the way

Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card

from the Bank of China in the name of our children...So that we now have

over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000

for every man, woman and child. That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic.

By election day, Barack Obama will have raised the debt 6 TRILLION DOLLARS

in four years to $50,000 per person. Now that's irresponsible and

outrageous! If he's re-elected, the debt each one of us owes the

government will be over $70,000!

Barack Obama needs to be fired - RIGHT AWAY! He increased the national

debt by over $4 TRILLION DOLLARS. He spent $787 BILLION DOLLARS on a

stimulus package that failed to create any real jobs. He shoved the $450

BILLION DOLLAR socialist healthcare package through Congress - against the

will of the American people!"

Your brief appearances on PPP do wonders to cement your self-prolaimed cenrist independent positions.

There are many things to be upset about with Bush. And I'm sure that you view Obama with the same disdain for the statement above, since he hasn't reversed any of Bush's policies, and quite opposite has escalated cross-border military activities outside international laws. But that's ok, because we're well on the way to the Recovery Summer, again.

The only guy who's happy about Obama's performance so far is Jimmy Carter.

There are Birthers who argue that even though Obama was US born, his dad being a Kenyan, disqualifies him because he wasn't a "natural born" citizen. Ironically that argument also disqualifies the current GOP front runner Mitt Romney since his dad was born in Mexico. I'm still waiting for the Birthers to go after Mitt.

I've never heard anyone raise that argument.

Yes. Some people are partisan dumbasses. ANY reason to criticize the president is a GOOD reason. That is unfortunate.

But for every person you can find calling Obama a socialist, I can find you a person who called Bush a Nazi or offered to kill him. Plenty of photos at the bottom of this link. Do all those people hate whites?

The point of this thread is stupid. There is no question about that. Complaining about this stuff is a waste of time. But there is an increasing number of people who have completely tired of the Obamas, and it has nothing to do with the color of their skin and everything to do with the fact he is simply a hyper-partisan whiner who spends more time telling people who's to blame than he ever does trying to fix anything. He had two years where the Dems had control of the WH, Congress and Senate, and he opted for the idiocy of his trillion-dollar "make it rain" stimulus to somehow fix the economy while going headlong into creating a health care law that does nothing to address the problems with health care in our country.

The reason people like me don't like him is not because he's black. It's because he's an incompetent boob who has all the leadership skills of a mop. You have to be completely useless to make a conservative like myself wish that Hillary Clinton was the president...but he does it. In spades.

Oh, did I say spades. I didn't mean spades spades, I just meant spades...

I will make this my last post of the topic. I'll go on record that I think Obama has been one of the more effective presidents we've had in a while. He has acted on a good number of his campaign promises. (Not all but more than half.) We are out of Iraq, we are scaling back Afghanistan, we have a health care bill, he reduced the tax rate for middle class earners like me, GM and Chrysler are doing better, we have foiled several terrorist attacks and killed Osama bin Laden and several other leaders. If that's your definition of "suck" then I'll take more, please. And all this done while the GOP made it their stated purpose to make him a one-term president by any means necessary.

Is he perfect? No. But he's going to get re-elected.
