Jared Gaither Cut

Recommended Posts

If you've got back and neck issues as an offensive or defensive lineman, you always play on borrowed time. You're never 100% and you're always one play away from getting seriously injured. They are injuries that can't be fully rehabilitated. Your back and neck are akin to the frame on a car. Once damaged and operated on, they are never the same.

Marcus McNeil is my favorite example. The Chargers gave the man a six year, $50 million contract. This season, he's had two stingers to the neck, neck surgery in 2009, has spinal stenosis, and has had chronic neck and back issues going back to high school, not to mention numerous fractures of his hands through out his college career at Auburn and pro career.

Yes, he's a two time pro-bowler but that was in 2006 and 200 before the neck surgery and before the spinal stenosis started becoming a problem. In any given year, any given game, he's done not only for the season, but his career, and the team is on the hook for a ton of money. The neck and back issues have certainly affected his play. I was amazed that San Diego gave him a big contract unless it was a thanks for paving the way for LT.

That's why, even as a flyer, you pass on investing in Gaither. He's never going to be what you want him to be. Sadly, that goes for Troup too.

Cant be worse then what we already have. It's a 4 game try out to be a back up (cause GOD knows we need depth ) or maybe the kid turns it around and can turn into a decent starting tackle. We dont have that much and really need depth. May as well start trying to add depth now for the future. If he comes in and is garbage, o well u cut him! Really not much to lose at this point. We wouldn't be paying his entire salary, it is the last year i beleive on his contract and we could sign him (if he pans out ) far far cheaper then what it would have cost to trade for him a couple years ago when some were yelling on how we need this kid! :wallbash:

Actually, depending on what the cost was he might very well have been a good pick for this team. A great part of our losing the games we lost was the lack of talent at OT and Gaither would have been a great improvement. Buddy was dumb not to get more and better offensive lineman (and in not keeping Incognito).

That being said now that we are not going to the playoffs, now that Gaither has one year less tread life than he had last year, it would not be a good idea to bring him in.

Buying milk that expired December 1 on November 20 is okay. Buying Milk that expires December 1 on November 29 is probably not a good idea.

Of all the reason for lost games this year, o line play is not near the top .

Who is out backup tackle if Hairston or Pears goes down? O yea - its our starting LG. Who is our backup G? He is currently a starting G because our original starting guard is now starting at center bc our original starting center broke his knee.:blink::blink::blink::blink::blink::blink:

We need more lineman

Def put in a claim. As many have said, it's a 4 game tryout. If he does well, that's a great addition to the O-line.

Or draft them. Ooops, Troupe.

I don't like him but the expiring contract could become a comp pick (trying to find any reason to justify it?)
