Moats and Sheppard ???

When I saw the Barnett TD on video, I was surprised a bit by Shep's size compared to Barnett. I thought Shep was a D-lineman. He and Barnett will make a dynamic inside due. Moats opposite of Merriman should raise the intensity of the pass rush.

This D will get better and better as the season wears on.

Davis plays well and leads the team (in an almost coaching kind of way). Gailey referred to him as a "great teacher" in his Wednesday news conference and said that he helps out the youngsters. I think he and Spenser Johnson are really very decent players (and I acknowledge that Andre is a tad slow)I think we have a lot of part to that D that are still coming together. I love the mix of older guys and up and comers right now. I too think they will get better as the season goes on, we have about 3-5 (sometimes more) rooks or 2nd year guys on the field at any given time.

I was pretty excited to see STUNTS and BLITZES this week! Plus we did some zone and some man (on the same play, I think). It is truly getting to be a hybred and I like the thinking that is going into it. The execution is coming along, or they wouldn't be getting the clutch plays and the wins.

Amazing, indeed! Didn't hear this. It shows a lot of confidence in the rookie. Confidence repayed. McShay said at the time of his draft selection, he'd be starting by mid-season -fwiw.

Sheppard will be a beast. We need more LB's like him on the team. I think Batten will be great also.

I'm not sure that the statistics bare this out but it looked like the defense was more active and provided more pressure with Moats and Sheppard in there. Although he is not terrible I have never thought of Kelsay as a "play maker" and I'm not even sure who Sheppard replaced but I did notice that he was on the field and making an impact.

Any idea if these changes will be permanent? We need play makers and guys that are always around the ball on the field. At the very least these guys need to get more snaps on the field.

I noticed it too. That's why Merrimann is becomming a part-time pass-rush specialist. Riddle me this while we all praise the coaching staff... Have they ever heard of "stunting" their LBS? Does Merrimann have to always just plow into the LT. Can they once line him up somewhere else or have him stunt to the middle of the pocket?

Doesn't Wannstedt coach the LBS?
