Put up or shut up for Maybin

Recommended Posts

Maybin contract:

8/21/2009: Signed a five-year, $17.6 million contract. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed. Another $7.4 million is available through incentives based on playing time and sacks. 2010: $395,000, 2011: $757,500, 2012: $1.12 million, 2013: $1.4825 million, 2014: $1.5 million, 2015: Free Agent

He's guaranteed 15 million, meaning a small amount over the next 4 years would be saved. Wouldn't put a dent in resigning any of the guys you listed. If they're going to cut him it's because they feel he's tapped out his potential and the roster spot is better used by someone else. Not to save money.

Thats my main concern. If hes taking a roster spot from someone who can help our football team, then he shouldnt be here

renegotiate...RENEGOTIATE???? Maybin should use his rookie salary and invest wisely.

Oh I definitely agree, but you're talkin' 'bout a ' one-year wonder ' that missed 4 weeks of training camp and 3 preseason games - a bum that held out longer than any draftee other than Michael Crabtree, I believe. So what's to make you think he's humbled by any of this?

If I were Buddy Nix, I'm want to begin those negotiations right now. Perhaps they can start by asking him to hand back some of that $15M.

Quite! B-)

He gained 25 lbs of muscle ("somehow") between the end of his college season and the combine. How much more muscle do you think he can naturally add? He's now working full time with pro football weight trainers and conditioning specialists. He's not going to get any bigger than he is. Give that up.

Also, DE's don't take 4 or 5 yers to develop

You are correct

He could spend his entire life in the weight room and with a steroid needle in his butt, and he will never get the core strength and power to be an NFL DE. My 51 year old wife could knock him down and she only weighs 230

personally, I'd put him inactive rest of the year and see if he can catch a football and maybe try him at TE? Kid has talent just not at the DE position.....

Try him at TE ???

You're kidding, right?

Is this JV tryout week in high school?

"OK, everybody who wants to try up for (fill in the blank) line up over here..."

Last I checked, a TE needed enough size and power to block somebody

I consider Aaron Maybin to still be a boy and it would be stupid for the Bills to cut him after only two years. We won't see Maybin's true potential reached until year 3, 4 or 5. Can he get bigger and stronger and grow more mature as a person? These are the questions that Bills fans will have to wait on for another year or two. The worst thing the Bills could do is cut bait and watch a team like the Ravens or Steelers pick him up and turn him into a pass rushing monster.

So lets let him grow up a little before we become officially through with him. Geez, look how long it took Ryan Fitzpatrick to lock into his position, what 6 years? Though I didn't like the pick, I still believe that Maybin has a long shot chance for a big pay off.

I agree

I do agree that part of Maybin's problem (only part) is his physical development. We forget he was a junior when we drafted him. So he's that much more behind the curve than your typical drafted senior.

No question the Bills f**ked up by drafting him, but if Nix or Gailey thought he was a total waste he'd be gone by now. (the same may be true of McCargo.) I think Maybin's true deadline is next yesr's camp, assuming there is one.

PTR

He was an academic junior, but actually a red-shirt sophomore, football-wise - just like Andy Luck.

I wonder if he has any potential as a speed rusher; don't laugh - I have no idea simply because I have not see the guy play. His draft-day times looked pretty good..

Absolutely correct. Maybin signed a 5-year $17M deal in 2009 with $15M guaranteed, and becomes a FA in 2015 - so don't expect a decent year 'til 2012 or 2013, when he'll want to renegotiate.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I don't think he has the talent to stage a show when his contract is due ala Albert "Fat Al" Haynesworth.

He may be overpaid in my proposed position but I think he could shovel the stands from here on out, clean up the lots after games, help sell Coors Light, or do the teams laundry. I must say he is the WORST draft pick in NFL history. I cannot think of any other 1st round blunder than him. Jauron should be seen by a psychiatrist. Brian Orakpo......OMFG......Brian Orakpo...............and we have Maybin walkin after every play like his lats dont allow his arms to fall. What a tool!

Imaginary lat syndrome... usually its limited to 140# high schoolers in underarmor

Fitz showed flashes of potential to make plays early on. Maybin has not yet shown anything at all to warrent any more time.

It's only fair to wait until 2014 to gauge his talent level since the strike might delay his development as well. It's the least the Bills could do.

I was never a fan of the Maybin draft pick. When I look at him, I see a guy who looks and acts like a kid. At that young of an age, it can take a couple of years to thicken up a bit and also grow up mentally. The guy has a very unique build with lanky arms and legs, and he's very quick. If in time they can teach him to use that arm length and quickness to avoid blocks and get sacks then I'm willing to wait at least till the end of 2011 before I come to a conclusion on this guy. A guy that I never even wanted in the first place.

I don't think it is possible for Maybin to be more humbled. He got benched in his hometown. And I haven't heard anything from the Bills questioning his effort. He jsut isn't ready.

But this is a great opportunity for him. And even he struggles, I'd still not give up on him. He's still the 2nd youngest Bill and has room for growth. The hate he gets is pathetic.

I wonder if he can catch? Try him out at T.E. He's the right size..

I understand the "put up" part. It is overdue.

But I don't get the "shut up" part. Has he been jawing somewhere?

What? WHAT! Are you living under a rock? Don't you know the words to the best rap song of all time?

"Mayhem Maybin- Quarterback cravin’

Go hard, crazy

Defensive Wes Craven

The o-line can’t save him

He stay misbehaving..."

It goes on like that for a little while until the listener passes out from laughter.

I don't see how this is relevant to the conversation. Some guy wrote a song about Maybin and Maybin put it on his website. What a jerk!

When I think of "put up or shut up", I'm thinking a guy is complaining, mouthing off, etc.

As far as I know, Maybin has sucked, but he hasn't mouthed off in any way. I don't get the "shut up" part.
