Far be it for me to take pleasure in other's misfortunes

For all those that are saying Peters was such a great guy to have on the o-line, was he really that valuable to this team? If we go back the last few years, the o-line has sucked according to everyone here, and yet with Peters and without, they have finished the season around the same spot every time. Last year they were signing guys off the street to play on the line and still didn't do much worse then with Peters.

The guy was a good football player when he wanted to be here. He was a great story, coming into the league an UDFA at another porition and winning a spot on a ProBowl roster. His first Pro Bowl was deserving, he played well that year, but after that he was given a spot off of name recognition and because he was there the year before. Players and coaches who vote have even said that alot of the time, when it comes to linemen, they vote based off of previous years players cause its hard to really judge linemens play

Either way, he is gone, and the only fans that seem to want him are some jilted Bills fans. Philly fans and coaches haven't been praising this "Pro Bowl LT", and I would say that I am 90% certain that if the Eagles could go back in time, they would think twice about making that deal. He is continuing to get the reputation of being Lazy, and for taking false start penalties. As for the comment about Bell taking false start penalties, no ones arguing that, but no ones arguing that Bell is a Pro Bowler worth $11 mil.

Waaaaaaa Waaaaaa. Jason Peters wasn't this. Jason Peters wasn't that. Ever hear of the sour grapes fable? Everyone loved the kid when he emerged as a probowler and worked his ass off to go from undrafted TE to RT to LT. Now he's a piece of crap because he wanted to be paid for it? Please!

No, he is a piece of crap because his head got to big and wanted another contract renegotiation after one Pro Bowl year, and when he did come back and play, he was no where near the same player he had been the year before. No he no longer is a Bill, Some of you cant get over this.

We are sorry that we have been too hard on your Baby Boy Mrs Peters, we will stop saying mean things and go back to trying to get him up on our shoulders and parade him around. Maybe we can get him into the HOF right now instead of having to wait til his career is over? I will get a sculpture working on his Bust for Canton!

If the Bills wanted to keep him at RT, when he signed his contract, they should have kept him at RT. When you get a promotion, like to LT, don't you want a pay raise or are you one of those wimps that lets your employer abuse you and promote you to a better position but not give you the money?

Thurman #1 may be a narcissistic !@#$, but at least he makes valid points. You're just a moron. It's like you hide in your cave and then once Jason Peters is mentioned an alarm goes off in your cave and soon thereafter we're all blessed with your version of logic. LT is not a promotion over RT. We have RT's in the hall of fame - were they just not good enough to play LT, or was RT their natural position? If you get moved from RCB to LCB to you automatically get a raise? Or RG to LG? Or SLB to WLB? Please. You sign a contract to play for a team, not to play one position and one position only. Even the Peters supporters have faded here. The media doesn't seem to be in love with him nearly as much as you are:

I haven't seen too much support for him on the Eagles chat boards either:

All I remember is him being absolutely abused by DeMarcus Ware, and the JP fanboys couldn't rush to their computers fast enough to defend him...as if paying someone $10-11M+ per year doesn't mean you should be at least mediocre against top talent.

Wow, sounds like Peters may have to live with his current contract for a while.

This reply had me ROTFLMAO:

His play hasn't been consistently elite

Understatement of the year.

That reminds me of when I worked the box office for this mediocre Off-Broadway revue called From My Hometown. They spent very little money marketing the show and were desperately hoping for glowing reviews, which would provide some glitzy pull-quotes for the marquee and posters.

However, the reviews were just as mediocre as the show, and we wondered what quotes they could possibly pull from them, debating between

“There are worse things you could do with your time!” – The New York Times

and

“It’s not that bad!” - Wall Street Journal

The show mercifully closed three weeks later, but the Eagles’ season will brutally drag on for another 8 weeks and likely get a two week extension before its inevitable ending.

You mean the player that went on to get two more probowls wasn't the same player?...Strange we can't be talking about the same guy. You say he sucks. Coaches and players, you know people in the NFL, think he is good. Hrmmmm...which opinion do I trust?

Some priceless posts by the Eagles fans. No one will ever say it in the media but the Bills took Philly to the cleaners on that deal.

Ah Leo! I was wondering when you would raise your head and spit venom. Not surprisingly you some how manage to always disagree with me. You offer no value to the conversation what so ever just the usual, PDaDdy is crazy, PDaDdy is always wrong blah blah blah. Get a clue buddy. It's a promotion to LT. When you look at salaries in the league this is clearly the case. I couldn't care less about your silly comparisons to other positions.

The Bills are in desperate need of tackle help and they are well under the cap - but hey, good thing our pro bowl LT isn't playing here anymore! We're saving all kinds of money that we spend on other - err - that goes unused against the cap.

Oh, you mean the same kind of false starts Demetrius Bell is getting? The same kind Ruben Brown used to get?

How much does Bell get per false start? He is probably at least $900,000 in front of Peters from last year alone.

We arent taking Wood and Nelson over Peters...We are taking Demetrius Bell or Jamon Meredith over Peters...Hence the reason our Offensive Line still blows donkey dick and there is not a single player CLOSE to Peters' talent. (And DONT say Eric Wood, because he is literally a Center who happens to be playing Guard...He has no skill to be a tackle and has never played as a tackle.)

SO ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL TRYING TO COME UP WITH REASONS AS TO WHY JASON PETERS IS NOT A GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER...GIVE IT UP! OUR ORGANIZATION GOT RID OF ARGUABLY THE BEST PLAYER, CERTAINLY THE BEST O-LINEMAN, THE BUFFALO BILLS HAVE SEEN IN A DECADE! WE WERE UNABLE TO REPLACE HIM THEN, AND WE STILL ARE YET TO REPLACE HIM WITH SOMEONE EVEN CLOSE TO HIS SKILL LEVEL!

I'm pretty sure the original poster who you were quoting was referring to the draft pick compensation and subsequent choices made with those draft picks versus the player traded for said draft picks. I think the total compensation ended up being Wood, Nelson, and either Batten or Moats this year.

I think the legend of Jason Peters is twofold - he wasn't as good as his most ardent supporters make him out to be and he was nowhere near as bad (when in shape) as his most fervent detractors would like everyone to think. If you take an objective look at the trade however, I would say at this point it's pretty even. Peters played well last year until he got hurt and then his play tailed off. On the other hand, we got Wood, who was pretty good, albeit not as good as Peters prior to injury, but he does have more upside at this point in his career than Peters, who should be entering his prime. Wood will get better than he is right now.

Since Nelson is out, and neither Batten nor Moats are going to do anythign this year, the jury is still out. In two years or so, when it we know about Nelson and have a better idea of Moats/Batten everyone will know who got the better of this trade. Right now it's even, but if Peters has a big year, then the Eagles definitely pull into the lead, regardless of what our two players do this year (aside from both being Pro Bowl starters, which is unlikely).

One part of this trade that might be interesting (and which I have no idea of at this time) is how trades of one player for multiple picks/players work out for each team from an historical prespective. It seems like all the ones I can think of off the top of my head end up better for the team trading the one player, but there has to be examples going both ways. The first that comes to mind Herschel Walker being traded, which was a big boone for Dallas and a flop for Vikings. Maybe one that fits mroe closely to the Peters' situation is the hodlout and trade of Sean Gilbert in the late 90s/early 00s. He held out and then was traded the next year to Washington, where he did nothing for a while.

Anyone else think of another senario like this trade?
