If Aaron Schobel has to choose between playing another season in Buffalo or not playing at all he would choose the latter. (Be it for family reasons, sick of losing / rebuilding every year). My guess is that if he were playing for the Texans or the Cowboys he wouldn't even contemplate retiring. He has made it clear that he doesn't want to be here any longer and I really can't blame him - do him and the Bills a favor and try and trade him for a let round draft pick and be done with it already. I think the issue is his pro rated bonus. If he retires, the bills get some money back. Schobel want to be released, so he gets to keep his bonus and sign with the Texans. Better yet forget about him, let him retire and retrieve the pro-rated bonus money. Since Levy arrived it seems every offseason a high profile Bills player wants to be traded or granted his free agency and is subsequently allowed to leave. It's time to set a new precedent. As for your "be done with it" thought, when you have employees you are never done with such matters. You can never make everyone happy, do what's best for the organization. For all his flaws Schobel still got 10 sacks last year so I think he still has value as a pass rush specialist for the next couple years - Amobi Okoye is supposedly out of favor in Houston and he is coming into camp lighter 283 which may make him a candidate to play 3-4 end. He felt he could not have his three children split time between Buffalo and Texas, where his extended family lives. He was also deeply frustrated with the Bills organization. I know also that this was not a rash decision, but one he made last November. I cannot say any more about the situation in good conscience. EDIT: It is okay with me, yes.
