Terrence Cody Story

Recommended Posts

That's awesome. I'm so glad he did that for you. I haven't heard too much about him as far as off field things go it's nice to see he's a good guy.

It's not my uncle, but thanks. :) It's from a poster on another football board I frequent.

Got this off another board I read...

"I have been on this board a while and I am a lurker, but this is something that needs to be told...

My uncle was diagnosed with liver cancer during the first week of September of 2009. The doctor was very upbeat, but told him it would be a battle. The doctor told him that he definitely would get to see Christmas and hopefully a lot more of them. Almost a week later the doctor told him he had 4 weeks to live. It was a shock for everyone in our family. My uncle and my father had worked together for the last 11 or so years and I have worked with them the last 2. The chemo almost started immediately and he was getting good results back from tests. He has been in the hospital a couple times and actually had a bad case of pneumonia and sepsis and came back strong. One week ago he began to fall ill and was taken to the hospital the doctor said he would not last through the weekend. The family was called in and stayed with him night and day. He began to feel better and by Friday was sitting up and talking and joking like he always did...Enter Terrence Cody...

Terrence was signing autographs in Childersburg which is a a couple of miles away from Sylacauga where my uncle is in the hospital. Word got to him from a friend who set up the autograph session that it would make my uncles day if he could come by. He did, he took pictures, signed autographs, and talked for two hours. It was hard to get him to leave. It made my uncles day indeed. As of today he is supposed to leave the hospital to go back home. "

With all the Cody bashing about his "pecs", his work ethic, and his weight, it is nice to see that behind all that is a good human being. I'm not saying he's going to win a humanitarian award but isn't this the type of high character player we are looking for?

Cody in the 2nd? If he slips...sounds like he may not considering his offseason weight-loss results.

This stuff doesn't change my opinion of him as a player. I still question his commitment to the game.

why do you question that? just because his weight fluctuated over a couple of months??

if that's the case, you arent looking at the bigger picture, which is that his weight has been on a steady downward trend since starting his college football career. he came into Alabama around 400 pounds and worked to get down to a playing weight of 370. Now, he has worked to get down to about 355 pounds for his Pro-Day Workout.

he is HARDLY the first big man to see some weight fluctuations immediately following the season. and while a 20 pound fluctuation is a big deal to you or I (who weigh ~170), it isn't even 10% of his body weight.

and if you are basing that entire statement off of one picture, then you need to change your statement to:

I still question his commitment to the game based on one picture of him without his shirt on. His on-field play and the ability to maintain a high level of play for a National Championship team do not matter as much to me as what he looks like topless.

Was he THAT good at Alabama? I really didn't see them play much. I will say his lack of interest in the weight room shows a lack of commitment to his profession, so I am concerned there. But we do need a wide body. The semi-informed "experts" on Sirius do not like Cody until the 3rd/4th round and like Cam Thomas better.

i mean, he set the bench record at bama, and has lost 50+ lbs in the last two years. I dont know if you can call that a lack of interest. In interviews he came out and said he didnt know the most basic of training and weight loss strategies before going to alabama. Simple things like eating breakfast to start his metabolism, or that eating late at night was worse for you then during the day. Simple things that are like obvious to most of us, but if he wasnt taught them.... how would he know.

There are definitely red flags, but for every question mark there seems to be a reason to believe that it may have just been a poor upbringing and hes on the right track.

he seems like a high quality kid, and id be thrilled to get him.

No, I'm basing it on things I've read about him.

Just because a guy can make sacks like this;

It doesn't mean he's going to keep his weight in control and be a decent NFL player.

you must take me for one of these internet amateurs! i hover before i click, homie!! (nice try though :) )

with regards to the subject at hand, he has kept his weight under control for the past 3 years. When he came to Alabama, he weighed upwards of 400, they got him on a program and he was able to maintain a playing weight of around 370. if you think for one second that Nick Saban would tolerate a player coming in out of shape and overweight while he is trying to make a run at a National Championship, or not working hard, then you either dont know Nick Saban or College Football that well.

If Cody was really the lazy slug that some people make him out to be, he'd be well over 400 pounds and out of football already. Instead, the REALITY of it is that he is down around 355lbs and ready to get drafted into the NFL.

Ive liked him all year. Loved it when I heard he was projecting to go late 1st or 2nd round figuring we might have a shot at him. I dont think he's going to last that long though. Especially now with this additional news that he can cure cancer.

Amazing. Just laughed out loud at work.

By the way, why is he projected to fall all the way til the 2nd round if he's supposed to be this good? And cure cancer?

If they honestly believe Cody is not going until the 3rd or 4th round, they should be fired. I'm just praying he lasts to our pick in the 2nd. The knock on Cody is he's a 2 down player and his conditioning. I'd rather have a great 2 downs than average to below average 3 downs. Alabama allowed like 11 points a game last year and sallowed omething like less than 30 yards rushing. You aren't going to lose many games like that. Poz would be a pro bowler behind Cody.

I agree, and even expect him to be gone in round 1.

few reasons i think combine up:

1. he's only been playing for Alabama for 2 seasons so he hasnt been a prototypical blue chip who everyone is waiting to get to the NFL throughout their entire college career.

2. he has only been a 2 down player for Alabama. coming out on passing plays. i think this was the biggest reason. he's not a 4 down DT or DE. He's a situational NT.

3. they have such a high level of talent on Alabama, i think people discount his ability and chalk it up to "it's the guys around him"

4. with most big men, his weight, and ability to control it, have been questioned. i understand the questioning, i just believe that he has shown that he CAN control it. also, given that he was only a 2 down guy, his conditioning has been questioned. Even though he played a ton in the Tenn game and still had the strength left to block 2 FGs in a row at the end of the game.

Don't be surprised if he goes as high as 18 to the Steelers. I could see them grooming him behind Hampton while at the same time take their defense to a whole new level. If all the OT's we like are gone at 9, I have no problem grabbing Cody in a trade down, just don't trade down too far........

It's pretty pathetic the double standard the media has. Probably like 90% of the athletes are good people but the media would rather focus on the 10% who are idiots. Thus, you get moron fans would say sports are filled with "thugs" and criminals.

they use to say "no news is good news" now we say "good news is no news"

this is the one I like, check out this tackle

yeah, im trying to remember which game i watched where they might as well have named it the Terrence Cody Show. Kid was in on every tackle and was making plays left and right. i think it was this South Carolina game, but they've all blended into each other at this point.

Yes, when he is in, he changes the game.

Besides the message boards full of "internet experts", where do you get the information that he doesnt work hard? Sorry, but you don't get to play for Nick Saban and the National Champions just because you're fat. Here is an excerpt from a recent story:

also, just wanted to post....

THIS!

22 reps for a NT is WEAK!!! How is he going to keep people off his legs if he's not strong up top?? 370+ lbs is what this kid was before his agent convinced him to lose weight. And it's easy for really fat people to lose 20 lbs. Harder to keep it off. Like I said, I didn't see him play much....but I did see him.
