i see 4 busts in 8 years. butler had just one......

To bad teams aren't made up of 1st round picks. List what Butler did in the later rounds and you'll see why this team went into a tailspin.

My biggest pet peeve is when people think a QB solves/causes all problems. Anyone who has ever played or coached football knows that the game is won and lost in the trenches. All of those who are calling for a big time QB in the first round (putting the wagon before the horse) should look at Matthew Stafford, JP Losman, Alex Smith, etc. Every successful team that drafted a big name QB in the first round were one player away. Not us. As much as many of you would like to believe that we can go to the playoffs right away, it's not happening. Maybe in 2 years. We need to build the lines this year, and draft a QB next year when we have all of the other parts in place.

dude these are the first round picks from 93-00

93 thomas smith

94 jeff burris

95 ruben brown

96 eric moulds

97 antowain smith

98 sam cowart

99 antoine winfield

00 erik flowers

other than erik flowers those were mostly great players especially smith, burris, brown, moulds, cowart, winfield.

and thats not even counting other rounds or rfa..... ur wrong man, butler was a great gm

T. Smith and Burris weren't that special. A. Smith was only here for 4 years and he sucked the last year. His best year was with the Pats. Flowers was a complete bust, in fact the whole 2000 draft was a bust. If you look at the picks beyond the first across all of those drafts, you'd be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of impact players.

For what it's worth, the 1992 draft wasn't all that great either. Fina was the first pick.

Good god. Please don't tell me you are posting this to help your cause are you? Looking back on this, I never knew how awful most of these drafts are.

Seriously, overall draft grade for all of those drafts: D+

AFC: Manning, Rivers, Brady, Palmer,

NFC: Brees, Favre, Warner, Rodgers, Romo, Mcnabb

These are your playoff QB's. If the Bills have any of them they have 10 wins.

Have you seen their O-lines? Every one of those QB's (w/ the exception of Rodgers) has an awesome line in front of him. Don't kid yourself- QB play and O-line play go hand in hand. Good line? Good QB.

But all the "Fans" on this site who dont know anything at all about football post how Ralph is cheap, Nix sucks, yadda yadda yadda. Truth be told, 99% of the people on this board probably couldnt name the GM on 5 other teams, let alone a candidate they would have liked to come here. And dont start posting names, because we all know you just googled it. You just need something to whine about, like always, and wouldnt know a good GM ever. Nix has all the credentials and a VERY VERY good track record, But of course, Ralph is cheap, and the bills suck.

Nix is great hire, one of the major problems w/ the bills as of late has bee the draft, nix is here for 1 year and has a pro bowler already. Maybin needs to move to OLB which he will next year, then we can say hes a bust. Wood and Levitre looked good for rookies as well. I joined this board not too long ago thinking most people on here would know a thing or 2 about football, which some do. But anyone who says the Nix hire wasd a bad one, is seriously just either A.) a total and complete moron, or B.) Just trying to illicit a response. While I hope its B, its become obvious to me its likely A.

So to all the "Ralph is cheap" and "Nix sucks" people out there, truth be told you obviously dont know a thing about Football, and like I said earlier, couldnt name the GM on 5 teams and wouldnt know a quality candidate if it sat in your lap.

Thanks for making this post... "the Ralph is cheap" crap is getting old... It's a dumb argument and stance to take.

Ralph IS cheap when it comes to the front office and talent evaluators.

which is why the team is not competitive on the field

Did you see Rivers getting killed in the Steelers game this year but still making great throw after great throw. Brady has been banged up all year because of the Pats protection problems. Warner's LT is Mike Freekin Gandy! A good QB gets the ball off quickly. A good/great QB can make an Oline look great too. The Steelers played the Cards last year in the SB. Both lines were not good, but their QB's were.

I THINK NIX IS QUALIFIED

Yes, I agree. Nix was/is a fantastic hire.

you must have the 93-00 drafts confused with the 86-93 drafts. i'd say 93-00 was eminently average. and i don't think Butler was the genius some here make him out to be...

While Butler seemed like a quality gut for the most part, his resume from his Buffalo years would be short and read something like this:

John Butler - Road on Bill Polian coattails, who built a woeful early Mid 80's Bills franchise into a team that went to 4 straight Super Bowls. Over saw the yearly deterioration of the team after Bill Polian was fired.

Ralph is not cheap. Ralph is well-intentioned but misguided.

PTR

If misguided means 'horrible at running the football operations side of an NFL franchise,' I agree with you.

Front office ineptitude has led to a decade of mediocrity from the Bills. Most fans realize that the Bills need a smart GM to lead them back to respectability.

To believe that Wilson has found that guy by interviewing only two candidates, you have to believe that Wilson is the greatest front-office selecting owner in the NFL. And he is clearly not that.

Nix, by luck, might turn out to be a great choice to be GM. But Wilson clearly cheated the fans with the half-assed approach he used to fill the position.

You cant expect every one to understand FB.

I like the Nix Hire, Now did he really have a lot of input in the draft ( 2009) ??
