ProjectPat
This guy could be the biggest screw-up of all time. From ProFootballTalk.com Lawrence Phillips gets 31 years Posted by Mike Florio on December 18, 2009 6:13 PM ET Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips, one of the biggest top-ten first-round busts of all time, has been sentenced to more than 31 years in prison for attacking his girlfriend, and for driving his car into three teens, according to the Associated Press. The incidents occurred in 2005. Phillips was the sixth overall pick in the 1996 draft, eight spots before Eddie George was selected by the Titans. The quick collapse of Phillips' career makes the franchise's ability to win a Super Bowl only three years later even more amazing.

BillsGuyInMalta
It wasn't long ago that he was deciding between the Bills and the Niners over what team to sign with. Looks like we dodged that bullet.

silvermike
I mean, if we had signed him, he would have crapped out and been cut without too much fanfare at the end of the season. It's not like he's a legend in San Francisco.

What do you mean 'were'? Bring him in for a workout! He'll get parole...eventually. Trade Lynch and Parrish for a fourth and let Phillips split carries with Jackson! Get 'er done! What if that was your son who died; no matter how big of an @$$hole he could have been you'd feel sadden. So save your comments and show some compassion for once in your life! I for one feel terrible for his friends and family. BUT it bothers me how the media and the NFL are painting a picture of him as a remodeled human being. I believe Marvin Lewis referred to him as a "beacon of light." Now this young man may very well have been making strides in reforming his behavior, but he clearly wasn't there yet. This is a tragic story, but something that he brought upon himself. The way the media is portraying him is downright irresponsible...
