John from Riverside Posted November 1, 2009 Share Posted November 1, 2009 Everyone was wondering why Nic Harris wasn't getting his shot at the OLB spot.......all these other guys getting rotated in and out........moving him all over place....back to safety....not playing him So what does he do when he gets on the field? High energy plays......yes he made mistakes but what do you expect when you screw with a players head like this...... Every year there is some player that should have been playing that isn't then he comes out and kicks @ss........why is it so hard for this coaching staff to see who their playmakers are? On a roll tonight huh John? Again, agreed, Ellison is clearly not good. He shouldn't see the field again. Season is over. 3-5 at the break, get Harris in. Could not effin' agree with you more on Nic Harris. After the preseason, he looked amazing! I am surprised that Ellison still is on the roster, with a player like Harris. Buffalo drafts three guys every year with "high upsides" who come cheap and can't do anything except offer high energy on special teams. We need to cut all these guys bring in some talent...Every where. Then move they guys like Ellison to back up roles. we will never be competitive until this happens. I'm not against picking up a few athletic projects if the raw talent is there - Byrd (for example who may be too slow for his college position), or a Jason Peters. Guys that are either freakish raw athletes, and no I don't mean bench press specialists like Lief Larson, or have unusually good football instincts. The Bills, who have lepers in the FO and on the coaching staff, sacrilegiously think they can draft out of position then make water into wine. Nic Harris is NOT to small to play the LB role that is asked of him in this defense (I dont like the defense but that is a entire other matter) and even if he was on the small side I love his mentality about wanting to come up and stick players.......he covers ground very fast as evidenced on the pass where he drilled the RB and he plays with passion. Not every pick can be a first rounder.......if you bring in players like Nic Harris with later picks and they end up being good players then that his how you biuld a good football team........especially when you have mgt who will not go out and bring in competetive guys in free agency at spots of weakness (I know I know.....Stroud....TO.....Hangman...BUT LB was a definate need area going into the season) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We get guys like Wilson, Wendling, Corto, Harris, Stupar...All high motor guys who give it there all. I am sure they are wonderful around the fans and are great to have a beer with...But are they, or will they ever be playmakers? Are they talented enough guys to be kept around year after year and be anything but fill ins? Probably not, and if they are not, it is time to free up those spots for guys who could possibly develop into difference makers and let them learn on special teams. While I def agree with you that we draft guys who were "great ST'rs in college so they should be able to do it in college" and not draft the prototypical size/height/weight for a position. Some of the guys on that list are playing very well in their roles however.....Wendling is an absolute ST's stud. Wilson is making me hope the starters dont return. Harris to me is an absolute physical stud who just doesnt have the reps or experience yet. Do I wish the guys in front of them were playing well enough to keep me in the mindset of "man wouldn't XXX player also be good if he was playing" but that is not the case.......Ellison SUCKS I dont care how many tackles he has. Yes, we all know special teams is important, but the 5 times a game a guy Wendling or Wilson are involved, is not as important as say they 50 or so plays your OT is in on, or the 35 to 40 plays anyone of your linebackers may be involved with. Also, regarding Nic Harris, can anyone show me one solid NFL linebacker (in the history of the game) who was ever considered being moved to a safety position? He is too small to ever be an impact player. Regarding Ellison being 234 lbs, I could list Cindy Crawford at 6'2 and 220, but that doesn't make it true. Nic Harris never lifted weights in college in an effort to stay light enough to play saftey. Give him a chance to hit the gym. He is also bigger than all of our other LBs minus Poz. I am not talking about their listed weights, I am talking about how big they actually are. Second, Harris has similair speed to Byrd (40 time wise), who is still a DB. He is clearly the most athletic LB on the team. Ellison sucks and should be cut. I rejoiced when he was out of the game. Now if you want to B word about Maybin, go for it. I assume you are talking about Harris and not Ellison. Harris looks every bit of 234 pounds to me......he is carrying a lot of muscle and he has potental to add more because of his biuld. So what do you do when you are drafting in the middle rounds? Do you draft people who look the part but cant play worth a crap? When you get to the middle rounds you are drafting on the POTENTIAL of what they could be and can make plays. Now...If I understand your arguement here you think that there should be solid proven starters in all of those spots....shoot I wish that as well.
