Who do you want the Bills to be?
Jerry Jabber replied to Buffalo Boy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed 100% Guys like Taylor, Manuel and Jones are not going to lead us to the playoffs, let alone have a chance at the Super Bowl. Guys like Orton, Fitzpatrick, Edwards, Losman, Holcomb, Bledsoe, Johnson and Van Pelt weren't able to either. The Bills need an elite QB to compete in the AFC east against Brady & Belichek. The Bills have three options on how to get one: trade for one (such as Brees), which would require multiple draft picks and possibly some of our own players; trade up in the draft when an elite prospect is available, which would cost the Bills multiple first round draft picks and more; or to tank for a few years in order to be at the top of the draft order (like the Sabres did). Like you, I'm not interested in the Bills just barely making it into the playoffs, only to see them bounced in the first round. I want a long term contender that is going to be around for 10-15 years and that has a reasonable shot of winning the Super Bowl in that time period. -

This further validates that the Bills are a joke of an organization: This is just down right embarrassing! -

I agree 100% I've been saying the same thing for years that just making the playoffs is a terrible goal. The goal should be to win the Super Bowl. With playing against Brady, who is the best QB not only in the AFC East, but the whole NFL (pains me to say it) twice a year, the Bills need an elite QB to compete against Brady. Guys like Losman, Edwards, Holcomb, Fitzpatrick, Manuel and Taylor cannot compete against Brady and Belichek. Until the Bills get an elite QB, they will not get past Brady & Belichek. In order for the Bills to get an elite QB is to trade for one (such as Brees) and pony up draft picks and possibly some players or to tank for a few years (something they should have done during this playoff drought already). Also, I'm tired of hearing the crowd that thinks elite QB's can be taken anywhere in the draft. Yeah, we know Wilson was a third rounder, and so was Trent Edwards and he was recommended by the great Bill Walsh. And Prescott was a fourth rounder, yeah, so was Ryan Nassib.

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2667799-most-advanced-analytics-teams-in-sports Analytics does work in sports, but the Bills have seen very minimal results so far. When Brandon made the announcement, the Bills were averaging 6-10 during their playoff drought. Since then, the team has gone 6-10, 9-7, 8-8 and sit currently at 7-8. -
Bills are a joke of an organization
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think I should have elaborated a little more. With successful franchises like the Patriots, Steelers and Packers (just to name a few), we don't hear about information being leaked to the media from people within the organization, whether it's a HC or coordinator being on the hot seat, a player possibly being cut, a player falling out of favor with the organization, etc... With the Bills on the other hand, especially since Whaley has been around, a lot of information has been leaked to the media, such as when Marrone and Whaley wanted new trainers because they felt the trainer was using outdated procedures such as "stim and Ice" as well as fighting with the old regime as they had the attitude "this is how we've always done things." The handling of the Fred Jackson situation is another issue. Rex being on the hot seat which started last offseason (and even Jim Kelly stated so as well). The difference is night and day between the Bills and other successful organizations. With info constantly being leaked to the media, it shows to the rest of the NFL that the Bills are a dysfunctional group. In 2013, Brandon ranted and raved about how the Bills brand has been tarnished and that he would leave no stone unturned in finding a new HC, then settled on the third coach he interviewed [Marrone]. Terry Pegula asked Brandon about interviewing coaching candidates and how he would know when they have the "right guy." Brandon replied that you have to have no pre-conceived notions and no expectations going into the interview and just like with dating, you just know if the person is the "right one." That right there is pathetic! You have to have a vision on what your business (and in this case, sports team) should be about, not just hope success will fall into your lap. But with the advice Brandon gave Pegula, it's no wonder that Rex got the job because Rex is a talker, he loves football and he talked his way into the position, even though he was not great at being a HC as his track record with the Jets proved it to be. Rex's track record with the Jets should have been taken into high consideration. Now, it's been announced that the GM [Whaley] is going to conduct the new HC search...shouldn't the GM have been the one to conduct and select a HC all along? Now it seems that if this new HC does not workout, ownership/management will pin this on Whaley and will fire him if this new HC fails to live up to expectations. I know the Pegula's are learning as they go. I thought they would have learned from their mistakes with the Sabres as they kept Ruff and Regier, then fired them two years later after they saw the team was not meeting their expectations. When the Pegula's bought the team and saw that the product they bought has been failing for 15 years (at that time), they should have cleaned house and brought in their own people. I see them making the exact mistakes as they did with the Sabres, they most likely will fire Whaley and his new HC in two to three years (possibly fire more people) and then decide to bring in new management at that time. I hope I'm wrong, but the Bills are never going to win the AFC East, let alone be a wild card team unless they get a very good/elite QB to compete against Brady and the Patriots. Over this playoff drought, it seems the Bills flip flop which side of the team becomes good and which side is terrible. The first year with Bledsoe, the offense was good, but the defense was bad. The next two years, the defense was very good, but the offense was bad. We've seen Special Teams jump from bad to good and back to bad again. When Marrone was here, the offense was bad, but the defense improved under Pettine and became very good under Schwartz. Under Rex, the offense improved each year, while the defense regressed. There has been no consistency with this team. -

Bills are a joke of an organization
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What mistakes?! Not addressing the QB position the right way, continuing to bring in backup QB's FA's like Cassel and Taylor to try and win a QB competition. Instead of wasting an extra first round pick on a WR in a WR heavy draft, how about waiting a year to move up in the draft and move up to pick Winston or Mariota? The Bills defense was not the problem, the offense was, but instead they hired a defensive coach and put in a completely different system. The old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Bills had the 4th ranked defense and decided to hire a coach who ran a completely different style defense, that was a very stupid mistake. -

But when you continue to make the same mistakes as those before, it means you learned nothing from the past. -

Terry also said when he bought the Sabres that Lindy & Darcy were not going anywhere and look what happened two years later... -

IMO, the defense gave up on him. The scheme was overly complicated and the players were done with him. There's that rumor as well as the one at the start of the season that if the Bills didn't make the playoffs, Rex was gone. Coincidence, speculation or leak from inside OBD? (cue the X-files music). -

I agree 100% There's nothing to argue about that. But how did this info get out to the media weeks before the Miami game is the $64,000 question? -

Then how did that info get out? Somebody from OBD told that to the media. Or are you saying it's just coincidence that reports came out about Rex getting fired, then a few weeks later, it actually happens? Bills would still order the wrong one. -
Bills are a joke of an organization
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no problems with the Bills taking a shot on a guy as we've seen some guys drafted between rounds two thru six become good QB's, but the draft is a crap shoot. IMO, the Bills gave up way too soon on EJ. Are there busts at the top, sure, but there are more QB's that don't workout out in the lower rounds as well (most of those guys become backups). But the Bills, including Whaley have made some terrible decisions over the years. I like Watkins, but trading up to grab a WR in a heavy WR draft was stupid. If the Bills were going to trade up, it should have been for a player like Mack, not when there are other elite WR's that could have been selected at the Bills original position. Brandon ranting and raving a few years ago about the Bills image being tarnished and that he would leave no stone unturned to find a HC, but settles on the third guy he interviews (shouldn't Whaley have been the one to choose his HC then). Brandon was infatuated with Rex and said "don't let this guy out the door," plus gave Rex hints to woo the Pegula's over (they like red wine), shouldn't the choice for HC been Whaley's? +1 -

That something the Bills need, is an elite QB to compete in the AFC East. Whether that's trading for a veteran like Brees, or trading up to get to the top of the draft when an elite prospect is available. I think that's around the time I started watching the Bills (sometime during the Chuck Knox era). The one that sticks out to me is winning the AFC East in 1988. -
