  1. I loved the Hardy pick. Guy caught 36 TDs at Indiana and came into the NFL at 6'5". He was billed as a more physically gifted version of Plaxico Burress. And when he caught that game winner in the back of the end zone against Jacksonville, I thought he was going to do that every Sunday for years to come. The light never went on for him and he just couldn't put it together on the field. He had the talent but his lack of maturity and focus killed his career.
  2. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/16/jets-offer-one-year-deal-to-aaron-maybin/ "Five or six other teams also offered similar deals".
  3. It also says only a few days. Keep our ears to the ground and just wait and see.
  4. Bit of a luxury signing on our part but the versatile player can do a lot of things and should help our team in more ways than one. I'm excited to see how Gailey will use him.
  5. I don't like those "let's sign every player released" threads. But this is one guy we should have on a plane to Buffalo now. Our OL needs help. Nix's failure to address the line in FA is a serious problem. While his health appears to be somewhat of a concern, let's have our doctors check him out and see for ourselves. He's only one season removed from a Pro Bowl. And at age 31, he's got gas left in the tank too. I think this cut is more about going with a youth movement than injury concerns. Nix better show an interest. We need help on the line, specifically at RT, and Stinchcomb fits the bill.
  6. Maybin's problem is he's simply too small to play DE or OLB. But his skill set is that of a pass rusher. His inability to get and stay above 230 lbs was his downfall. You need the size and strength to pass rush effectively. And while there are "smaller" pass rushers out there, (Robert Mathis comes to mind), those guys have exceptional quickness and a nice repetoire of pass rush moves. Maybin has none of these things. While still very young, Maybin hasn't even shown so much as a flash of any ability whatsoever. I don't know what his diet and workout routine was like but his inability to pack on any size leads me to believe he either (a) was completely unmotivated; or (b) had reached his genetic limitations and was actually incapable of adding any weight/muscle. To this day, I remained amazed that the Bills chose to draft a raw, undersized one year wonder over a polished, consistent, productive, motivated workout warrior coming from an elite program. And it has nothing to do with how these two turned out in the NFL. Orakpo was far and away the better prospect. I was foaming at the mouth when Orakpo was still available at our pick. It was a real head scratcher.
  7. If Merriman is healthy and can stay that way, he's gonna light it up all year.
  8. I don't care what anyone says, Lee Evans is an extremely talented WR. He's fast and has great hands. It's a shame to lose him, he's been with us for seven years and we never did him the service of giving him a legit QB to throw to him. While it may be better to get something for him now rather than nothing later, I still don't like it. A 4th seems far too low for a player of his calibre. Opposite Boldin, he's going to have a big year. These guys will compliment each other well. This is a lot of faith to put in the WR corps. We know Johnson is the #1 guy but who plays opposite? Parrish is great in the slot but can't play outside. Nelson may have to be the one to step up. But until someone does step up, Johnson is going to see blanket coverage all year long. Gailey is going to have to get creative to get him open and put the ball in his hands.
  9. I'm not bashing Nix because so far he's done a good job IMO. And this is only his second offseason. This is a young team with some talent and potential. That said, his inability to address the right tackle spot worries and frustrates me. It's a serious problem that will continue to plague this team. NFL coaches aren't stupid, they'll stack the left side of our line and dare us to run off tackle to the right. They should've overpaid Clabo. I don't think he ever intended to come here and was just leveraging us against the Falcons, but if we offered a lot more than the 5 years/$25 mil he got, maybe he would've came for the money.
  10. Wait til October 9th. It won't be that cold and you can see Mike Vick and the Iggles. NFC teams only come once every eight years.
  11. He's 30, coming off a knee injury that required surgery and has a big salary. But if he can return to health, he's money. If he actually does get cut, we need to be all over him.
  12. Good, exciting news but I hope he takes it easy. He needs to take care of that Achilles. It's an injury that kills a player's explosiveness. He needs to ease his way back into the game and take care of his lower body.
  13. Bills will easily meet the cap floor by re-signing their own with front-loaded contracts. I expect Steve Johnson to get a big one soon, similar to the one Miles Austin got last year. They'll probably lock up Ryan Fitzpatrick too. And Andy Levitre is a FA in 2013 so they may lock him up sooner rather then later too. He's been our most consistent lineman.
  14. 80 is a little low for Fred Jackson. He's an 85 at least. Guy's a beast.
  15. Didn't the Ravens doctors fail Dwan Edwards for his neck injury but ours cleared him? He ended up playing 11 games and had some decent production. Not saying this is the sime situation, but if this brings his value down low enough that it's worth a gamble, I say do it because our OL could use a little beefing up. FWIW, Peter King sees Buffalo as Gaither's best fit.
  16. We can't catch a goddamn break. This LB corps is destitute. I mean, they're playing Moats out of position for Christ's sake. He's a talented kid with upside and is our best pass rusher IMO. So we're gonna ruin him by forcing him inside where he was horrible last year in camp. We have to sign Crowder, and fast. As much of a liability he is in coverage, he can stuff the run with the best of 'em. Get this done. Now.
  17. Reports say Burnett is seeking a deal in the range of $5 million per year. That's reasonable to me. I say give him a five year/$25 million deal and be done with it. Miami cutting Crowder right before Burnett is scheduled to visit leads me to believe he won't be leaving South Beach.
  18. He's looking to see what's out there. Can't blame him. He'll look around and take the biggest offer he gets. I want him but I don't want to overpay for him.
  19. Since we lost Poz, we need this guy. Our LB corps was thin as it was, now it's just about destitute. I wanted Poz back, but not for the kind of money Jacksonville foolishly threw at him. He's good but not great and he is injury prone. He tackles well but doesn't produce much elsewhere. I really like Burnett's balanced production. You get a little bit of everything. And he's coming from a good 3-4 defense (Chargers ranked #1 in Total Defense). I think he's a good fit. He has better size then Poz too. I like him, if the price is reasonable. Crowder would be a decent consolation prize if we lose out on Burnett.
  20. I wanted Orakpo. Two years later, it still hurts.
  21. The way I look at it, the Bills were dead last in Run D last year. Nix obviously knows this. When Our pick came around we had the opportunity to not only take arguably the best player in the draft, but the best run defender in the draft. Dareus was drafted to shore up our run D. Period. And he'll be used in that capacity. Plus he played 5 technique at Alabama. I like football so I have and watch NFLN. The Bills coverage is limited and when you get a piece on the Bills, they butcher it with inaccuracies.
  22. Just caught the two bumbling fools Dukes and Sapp going on about how Dareus is incredibly talented but that despite him being an elite 3-technqiue, we will use him as a 5-technique and considerably limit his effectiveness. But they also said he's so gifted that he'll succeed anywhere. They went on to say we've dropped the ball on this one. I'm not very fond of these two guys and I think they've jumped the gun a bit by assuming to know how the Bills will use him despite Camp only opening today. I can't imagine the Bills "ruining" him and making him play out of position. But I must agree with Sapp when he said if we just put Dareus inside with Williams and let them play, they'll penetrate all day and completely stop the run game. Regardless, I'm excited to see him play and think he'll be a contributor from day one and never look back. Thoughts?
