Announcers are aware of who fans tune in for. They are not going to take a dump on an NFL marquee attraction, even when deserved.

Apparently Gannon decided Lynn wasn't who the fans tuned in for. They almost needed to stop the broadcast and call 911 because Gannon was murdering Lynn on live TV...

I wonder if it would bother you if I posted a thread saying I think McDermott is an elite coach and will win multiple Super Bowls during his tenure. That is arguably much more unrealistic than what I'm saying, but I suspect it would be welcomed.

Is it? Based on what? The fantasy land projections you are using 10 years out in your own mind? The multiple drafts of players not even in high school yet that you see all the teams engaging in? Have you also done all the trades in these drafts too even though you have no idea what draft position any of the teams will have? Have you already assigned free agents that haven't even made it to the NFL yet to the various teams after their rookie deals expire on teams that haven't even drafted them yet? Did you simply play Madden 10 years out in franchise mode to come to this conclusion?

On what rational logical data and evidence are you basing this on? I would like to know.

More than anything how good a coach is or isn't over a given period depends on how much talent they have at their disposal. Since this is impossible to know projecting into the future is pointless. Also at 68, Bellicheat won't be around much longer.

What good weather team is going to try and move the game to Buffalo in December when none of their players are used to cold and potential snow?

Yes many games are close. But it is also a fact that the Bills have struggled more than other teams in the 2nd half. Most points allowed or close to it.

They also average the most points scored on offense in the 4th quarter in the NFL. Or at least did going into yesterday's game.

I settled in to watch the Chiefs - Buccaneers game after the Bills game ended yesterday.  I never miss a chance to see GOAT Tom Brady humbled.  What I saw (and heard) instead... from the opening kick-off until the game was over... was commentator Tony Romo's endless tire pumping for Tom Brady... even when the 43 year-old Tampa Bay quarterback had a miserable time in the first quarter.  The party line from Romo... all afternoon long... seemed to be simply this... Tom Brady wasn't failing... his team mates simply weren't able to play up to his level.

Full disclosure... I hate the Patriots... and I hate Tom Brady. No special reasons... just all the usual ones. Brady's performances this year in Tampa have generally been what I thought they would be... roughly league average quarterbacking... greatly enhanced by an extremely 'powder puff' schedule. The Bucs still have 4 games left to play... 2 of them against Atlanta and 1 against Detroit. Good God! With the sole exception of the Green Bay game... the team has looked bad... and Brady has largely failed... whenever they were matched up with a decent team.

Romo had the nerve to predict a Kansas City - Tampa Bay Super Bowl.  Everything I've seen this year tells me that Brady might be at the Super Bowl... provided he buys a ticket.

I'm gratified to see a lot of commentary on social media this morning about this topic.  I'm wondering whether any other Bills fans noticed Romo's troubling behavior yesterday?

Atlanta has been no pushover since they fired Quinn...they just cleaned the Raiders clock yesterday. I wouldn't be counting those as 2 easy wins. They might be lucky to split those games the way the two teams are trending.

Your rationale cuts both ways.  The Broncos broke the rules, so screw 'em.  Nayshveel was ridiculously flaunting the rules, which led directly to their Covid breakout, but the NFL bent over forward to accommodate them.  The Bills got completely jerked around, causing us to lose two games due to the ridiculous rescheduling.  But I almost bought screwing the Broncos, until the NFL told them they couldn't sign a coach to play QB in an emergency.  Say what you want, the NFL screwed the Broncos (and the Bills) royally.

i said good day on Tumblr

There is no "screw them" involved. Only is the outbreak contained or is there a risk of transmission between players?

Again you are making assumptions that are simply wrong.

These are the best coaches in the NFL... They either have next-level smarts or an elite ability to motivate players to perform.

McDermott is a solid playoff coach, but not a championship coach, I fear... So Bills fans are like, "We're 8-3! Enjoy it!" But I see a frustrating period of good-but-not-good-enough on the horizon for the foreseeable future.

And that's depressing. I am absolutely not of the "Hey, it's Buffalo; at least we're winning" type of mentality. It's championships or nothing. That is the life goal. And with McDermott signing a long-term contract, I almost feel as hopeless as I would if we sucked. If we sucked, at least there would be hope of striking coaching gold on an imminent hire. In this case, though, I feel like we'll just be a solid playoff team for the next many years, but not elite enough to win it all.

So you have played fantasy land in your own head before anything has happened ans determined this is going to be true. You live in fantasyland rather than reality at this point.

And you are depressed about something that hasn't even happened yet because you already have determined it will in the future? Have you consulted the precogs in Minority Report?

Unbelievable...sometimes I wish a board existed that we could go to that eliminated nonsense threads like this. It is depressing for me to have to come to thia board and read this type of content.

We had 3 back to back turnovers in the 4th quarter. a better team kills us and wins the game there.

we did not win the game handedly lol. The game came down to a FG late in the 4th which we were lucky Bass was able to hit. We can't keep letting teams hang around until late in the game. same thing happened last season in the playoffs and we got punished for it.

I guess 85% of the teams that win these days can't keep doing this then...maybe the Chief fans should be freaking out because they almost blew a 17 point lead against TB yesterday twice at 17-0 and 27-10 amd had to burn 4+ minutes off the clock at the end of the game to hold on.

But I am sure the talking heads will all be too enamored with the fact Hill had 270 yards 3 TDs and Mahomes made some great plays instead of how they didn't finish the game properly.

Apparently only the Bills win games like yesterday...all other teams get big leads and then cruise to victory with their backups in for the entire 4th quarter...

Ooh, I hadn't noticed that.  If the oline pass blocked, it means it was an audible.

THAT's what Lynn was arguing with the officials about?   He thought they'd gotten the first down?   Did anyone signal a first down or ask that the sticks be moved?   Why would have thought they got the first down?

I watched Herbert's PC after the game and he said it was an audible from him on the sneak and it was a miscommunication.

I think there is a rational view of the world that would like to see the Bills start stringing together four solid quarters of football so that they have a shot at going far in the playoffs.  Turning the ball over three times, committing multiple personal fouls and giving up a Hail Mary all in the second half of a conference game does not set the right tone for playoff football.  Glad they won.  Felt awfully close for a blowout.

I am sure KC fans are saying the same thing after allowing TB to get to within 3 points after leading 17-0 and 27-10.

Point is, very few teams are going to play a great 4 quarter game these days in all 3 phases. Other teams are still good and get paid to play just like we do and the rules are slanted to make comebacks more likely.

I read your stuff.  I disagree.  They forced the Broncos to put a kid out there who had never played in the league before, in a position where he could have been seriously injured.

If the Broncos didn’t have someone to play they should have been made to forfeit.  Same with the Ravens.  Same with the Titans against us.  And the league should have paid the other (winning as it were) team’s salaries for that game.

That is not how it works. If they forfeited neither teams players would have gotten paid as they are only paid for games played.

You disagree but that doesn't matter, that is the criteria being used and it is very cut and dry in most cases as to whether the game will be played or is in danger of being moved.

Lynn is getting a ton of flak for the final play sequence.  But a lot of that is coming from the barstool gambling community - less so football people.

Football people understand that - after a big play with time winding down, the coach is NOT telling the qb what to do.  They should have spiked it - but i don't know that lynn is like, get to the line and call a draw.

As for the sneak?  That was done after the radio is off anyway, so it was definitely a check (which as soon as he checked to it, made no sense because klein went right into the gap.

They have lost an absurd number of close games, but he was handicapped with rivers turnovers last year, and has a rookie QB and injuries this year.  It's unfair, but he'll probably get canned.

How is it unfair? Rivers is playing pretty well this year. Herbert is the Rookie of the Year running away and has 3100 yards in 10 games, making him and Mahomes the only 2 players in NFL history to do that...

They have multiple probowlers on that team. Maybe an All Pro in Bosa.

Lynn does less with more. There is absolutely NO excuse for only having 1 more win than the Jets dumpster fire under Gase since the start of last year.

The reason they lose these close one score games is because of exactly what happened yesterday with the game management aspect. That matters, especially in close games.

They had the same issues last year losing a bunch of close games. When does he get held responsible for not being a very good head coach?

Is he going to be allowed to keep getting Doug Marrone like passes? The man went 5-11, 6-10 and now is 1-10...when does poor coaching cost a person their job?

If the Saints choose to ride or die with Hill at QB, they will die in their first playoff game. Defenses will shut off the run and make him pass....a lot.

I don't understand why every team doesn't keep a QB and perhaps a kicker in isolation.  Seems like a shrewd move, especially for playoff teams.   Having the Broncos situation happen to you in the playoffs is a job termination-level offense IMO.

Brees will be back by then...

The NFL and its owners should be ashamed to have let this game be played.  They gave the Ravens 5 days to get over a Covid outbreak but made the Broncos play without a QB.  There is no rational explanation other than $$$.

I have posted ad nauseum about it. It makes complete sense. Read one of my previous explanations in this thread or one of the others as to why if you want to understand.

We're gonna disagree.  The NFL bent forward for the TITians.

In what way? They had a massive outbreak on their team. It is actually pretty cut and dry no matter how other people want to spin it. Does your team have a large outbreak? If yes, move the game. If through contact tracing and more testing it is determined they don't then those players get moved to the COVID list and the game gets played.

They didn't move the Minnesota game because Thielen had to be on the list either.

It is what it is. Games are only moved if medically necessary and a last resort.

    Muppy -

I've kind of been rooting for Lynn, because of *****-storm he went through in Buffalo when the Bills asked him to step in for Rex at the end of the season.  I've wanted him to have some success.

As I said in my write, I think the Chargers are one of the better 3-7 teams you'll see in the NFL.  Now that he has a QB, I kind of hope Lynn survives.

Still, I have a general dislike for owners who abandon their fan-base, so I don't mind having piled onto the Chargers' crappola of a season.

The man has a very talented team and has only managed to win 1 more game than the Jets dumpster fire under Adam Gase has since the beginning of last year. That is almost inexcusable.

It is great to want a coach to succeed because you like him but Lynn is not HC material. He made more poor game mismanagment decisions yesterday than some coaches do in an entire season. It was brutal to watch and I am so thankful we didn't hire him as out coach.

Oh, that's interesting.  I didn't know that, but he did miss the PAT early in the game.  But still, it was a 43-yard kick.  McDermott's approach is to expect your players to do the job they've been asked to do.   What is the kicker on the team for if you aren't going to use him to kick field goals?

Even if Lynn has doubts about his kicker, he also has to be thinking (because he's watched the film from this season and earlier) that the Bills are particularly tough on goal-line stand type running plays.  The Bills have stopped a lot of them.  Lynn should have been asking himself "What's easier, getting a yard against this defense or kicking the field goal?"  Given the Bills defense, I'd say that even with a struggling kicker, the field goal looks good me.   After all, getting the first down doesn't mean you're going to get the touchdown.  It wasn't fourth and goal from the one.

Umm...did you not watch last year as the Bills led the NFL in punts from the opponents side of the field because Hauschka couldn't get enough distance on even 50 yard field goals? It is why Bass pretty much would have had to be brutal in training camp to not win the job...you can't go into games with one leg tied behind your back and put yourself at a huge disadvantage right off the bat before the ball is even kicked off.

as a side note I happen to live in san diego and even though they have a rat baastid owner who moved the team up the I-5 to that beautiful but empty of charger fans crib (dont get me started on how much I dislike the Chargers ownership)  anyway the sports radio here is as you might expected...folks are NOT happy with Lynn and Ive got to say Im enjoying their bitterness LOL

Imagine what we would be saying if he was the coach here leading us to 1 more win than the Jets have since the beginning of last year.

  17. 5 minutes ago, wjag said:

I agree with you.  I do wonder though if the Chargers weren't 3-7 at the time would they have gone for it on 4th and 1?  Those three points they left on the field made a big difference in the final outcome.  Especially considering the last minute of play.

Based on their kicker, that was no gimme from there...dude has struggled much of the year

  18. 19 minutes ago, Freddie's Dead said:

The NFL did the Broncos dry.

No they didn't. The Broncos did it to themselves. They chose to not follow protocols. They chose to not wear masks and tracking devices when they were required to. They chose to try and cover it up by not cooperating with NFL investigators into the incident.

The NFL moves games based on medical decisions ONLY.

If a team has an active outbreak with players testing positive multiple days in a row then the game gets moved. If it is a contact tracing thing and there is no outbreak the players are ineligible to play and the game still is played. It doesn't matter if it is a bunch of practice squad players on the list, starting QBs, fringe players, some combination of them or the entire starting defense. The rules are the same for all teams, and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO THE PLAYERS ARE. Zero. Zilch. Zip. Nada.

I honestly think the reason is like that has to with the fact there is sets of fans on this board. On one side you have the fans that have been Bills fans since the AFL days. On the other side you have the fans that just recently started following the team.

The older fan base has seen it all and just want to win. They don't care what it looks like.

The newer fan base sees teams around the league blow out teams and can't understand why the Bills seem to not so it often.

I will say the one thing I will happy to never hear again is how its hard to win in this league.

If they look around the league they would see far more often that teams get out to big leads and then hold on for dear life at the end and have to survive a last ditch effort by the other team to win it...

Pittsburgh has done that in at least 4 games this year if not more...

I think it’s been an issue for our staff in the past. This week was not one of those times.

I think everything changed after the KC game and the light went on for McD and how he approaches games. I was pissed after that game...they played not to lose and more than that almost scared.

I’m with you, Matter.  I don’t know what people were watching thinking the coaches were just sitting on that leaden all 3 to’s happened on drives that we were picking up chunk yards. And as you said, the defense was HUNTING. I got into this same debate with a buddy yesterday and it’s like he was watching a totally different game.

Somehow people are mistaking our players giving the ball away as the coaches “playing not to lose”. The bottom line is the offense was driving successfully on each of those drives. One of which was inside the 25 after a huge chunk pass.

The Allen fumble came the play after he hit Davis for like a 45 yard gain. Seriously what are they talking about with playing "not to lose"??
