if you had a lot of money and you could hire either a full-time housekeeper, full-time landscaper/handyman, or full-time personal chef, what would you choose?

I always pick the chef. Being able to get super delicious and healthy meals at a precise calorie count would be amazing!

I would take the chef in a heartbeat. To always have high quality meals prepared for you would be amazing.

Through the first 100 seasons of the NFL only one QB has ever topped both 4,450 passing yards and 300 rushing yards. I'll let you guess who. HINT: It wasn't Aaron Rodgers though he came close twice.

I know those totals are a little random but I find it interesting that through 100 seasons only one player has put those numbers or better up. And now, at the conclusion of the 101st season we are on track to have four new members of that club. Justin Herbert (even with only 15 games played he is on pace to hit this mark, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson. These averages can continue to go down for all four so we'll see where they end up. For now they have fairly comfortable leads.

With Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields coming into the league next year, Kyler Murray continuing to become a better passer and the question of whether Lamar Jackson can develop as a passer, we could see this milestone topped by close to 10 players or so in the near future.

I've always though it's only a matter of time until a unicorn QB shows up. A guy that's 6'5 with the stature of Big Ben, cannon of an arm, reads the entire field like Brady, Peyton and Brees, has legs like a gazelle and is a tremendous leader. That time might be sooner rather than later. And maybe Josh is that unicorn?

Allen is definitely a unicorn. Nobody has ever had his combination of arm strength, athleticism, play making ability and clutchness he possesses.

Well...nobody has had his arm strength ever in the NFL period. Sports science declared him to have the strongest arm of all time (to the point they kept retesting him because they thought their radar gun was faulty) and 2nd place was way way down from him. Like from Allen to 2nd place was equivalent distance from 2nd place to 15th place.

Allen has the chance to do some really special things and I am so excited to be able to watch.

When it’s raining, the qb has a tougher time gripping and throwing the ball, while the WRs have a tougher time locating and catching the ball.  The WRs, while they know where they are going, can’t do it at full speed, which disrupts the timing of every route that is run.

The defense is also at a disadvantage as it’s more difficult to stay with the receiver.

I get what you’re saying and I agree to an extent.  My personal experience says that pouring rain makes throwing and catching passes more difficult.  There’s not much more to it than that.

Sports book lower the O/u numbers when it rains (sometimes drastically) and the unders still hit at a 55-60% clip (partly due to wind as well) in games where it rains.

Well...pouring rain like what was going on during the NE and Baltimore game is one thing, but normal rain doesn't have that much of an effect normally.

Did you ever catch wet laser beams from Josh allen?  I remember wearing some nice ass gloves, catching passes from Joey Wheeler in the pouring rain in HS.  The rain made it more difficult for me.  Wind affects the passes.  Rain affects catching the ball from my experience.  I can’t say it affects nfl players because I’ve never been one, but I can imagine catching a 65 mph football would be a little bit tougher in the rain.

now that I think about it.  Throwing a wet ball was more challenging as well.  I don’t see how you can say pouring rain doesn’t affect passing.

Just going by what Jim Kelly said.

  5. Weather shaping up to be almost perfect for the game. 50 and sunny with a 10-15 mph breeze. Fireworks going to ensue on offense it looks like.

That was the game where the Bills were first starting to display the power of their no-huddle offense.  They got up on the Eagles 24 - 0 in the 1st quarter which back then was unheard off.  The Bills almost lost the game because they didn't stick with the no-huddle the whole game.  They won 30 - 23.

I remember that game too...2nd play of thr game was a 63 yard TD to Lofton because the Eagles got caught trying to substitute...that was the vaunted Buddy Ryan Eagle D...they were so winded and out of breath from trying to keep up with the Bills they called a basketball timeout on the second or third drive if I remember because they were just getting shredded...also seem to remember a large number of injured Eagle defenders that day who needed medical attention on the field but miraculously all came back in within a play or two...

Great story.  I knew nothing about where Waller came from. Gotta give Gruden credit for recognizing his potential and snatching him away from the Ravens...

I had no idea either...and Gruden saw him on their practice squad and was asking who that was and before they got back home he was signed to the Raiders.

Good points.  Maybe I overstated my position but...  Morse was signed to an inflated contract because - if I recall correctly - we didn't have a valid option for the center position at the time.  Again, if I recall correctly, PFF had Morse graded as something like the 14th best center in the NFL prior to us signing him.   So while we ended up with the highest paid center in the league, we certainly didn't end up with the best.

I truly appreciate that Beane has built a better/deeper line than Whaley.  I guess I should have said that Beane's given us some solid starters and strong depth but failed to create an elite line.

The OL is better at pass pro than run blocking and I guess that makes sense.  Still, I'd like to see more holes for backs to run through and more push on 3rd or 4th and short.   At 4.0, the Bills rank in the bottom ten in ypc.

Even in pass pro, the Bills have given up 20 sacks - roughly the NFL average despite having an elusive QB who's not easily sacked.  Pass pro could be better too.

We have outstanding wideouts and - let's celebrate - an outstanding QB.  But our backs and OL are lagging behind.  And seeing this, I'm guessing Beane prioritized passing game skill positions.

I would be happy with simply a stalemate for the OLine on run plays. Instead 2 or 3 defenders seemingly are waiting in the backfield once the RB gets the ball on a lot of plays and it makes it very hard to gain yardage or even get back to the LOS.

Another viewpoint on the Bills Run Game from cover1

    https://www.cover1.net/bills-run-game/

-Last year, most of the Bills runs, and best of the Bills runs were outside the tackles

    -2019 24 outside runs of 10+ yards

-2020 6 outside runs of 10+ yards (excluding QB scrambles).  [I suspect it would be even less if designed QB runs were excluded]

-This year we're playing a lot more spread offense

-Like most spread offenses, Bills are running between the tackles more  (which we weren't very good at last year)

-88 of Bills 196 rush attempts have come against 6 man boxes but we're 20th in YPA in that situation!!!!

Turner points out, though, that stats don't tell the whole story.  The Bills are blitzed the 2nd most in the league.  Bills see a lot of 6 man boxes pre-snap with a 7th (or 7th and 8th) defender being inserted after the snap to confuse pass blocking - but it also blows up the run game.

Good article with examples of what he sees happening.  He makes a case that in some instances it's neither the line nor the backs, but the WR failing to react to and pick up a blitz that blows up the run play.

But I am sure other teams deal with the same issues and still are running the ball better than we are...how are they doing it?

I’ve liked Ty Dunne’s stuff, and the article is well written, but it left me feeling a bit depressed and uncertain of how much to believe.

I don’t doubt the stuff about Pegula loving Mahomes and while there is a tinge of “what if” I’m glad Pegs let the football guys make the decisions.

At the end of the day the article doesn’t paint McD in a good light at all, but how much of what two guys who got fired (Whaley and Monos) said are we really supposed to believe?

I didn’t really like Warner before I read this article and I like him less after reading it.  What a pompous know-it-all.  I guess we can look back and enjoy the first four weeks of the season, knowing that Josh Allen can’t process defenses and was only taking advantage of “easy” situations.

I should have stayed on my bye week.

I don't really read that as McDermott looking bad, simply having a different plan of attack than they did. Even Whaley admitted his plan was legitimate.

Who knows what would have happened if we drafted Mahomes...would we have ruined him with Dennison in year 1?

Would he have done well enough so that Dennison would not have gotten fired and we would still be dealing with a lesser version of him than what he could be?

So many unknown variables and truth be told I am happy with where we are now. Allen will lead this team to a Super Bowl before it is all said and done, I firmly believe that.

I feel like teams turn to the run when they get banged up on OL because it's (supposedly) easier to run block as a unit than it is to pass block.. or so I've heard.

It certainly seems strange that the OL is above average in pass pro, but every other run has somebody crashing into the backfield to blow up the run for a negative/zero gain.

The only thing I've got, from looking in from the outside, is predictability.  We rarely run outside so teams can crash the interior unless McKenzie is in motion.

I don't think this team is ever going to turn back to the run to the degree we have seen in a lot of seasons here...just isn't happening. We have finally embraced the new age offense and piling up yards and points through the air...

They do need to get better at picking up positive yards on carries instead of having losses and leaving their offense in 2nd and long and 3rd and long too often....even though the Bills are converting an unheard of 50% on 3rd down, 3rd best in the league behind Las Vegas at 51.6% and KC at 50.6%.

I am not sure when it started but you see them in 3rd and 5 now and you are like "Oh that's a gimme" and even on 3rd and 12 or 13 you expect them to convert. Don't know if I ever felt more confident in their 3rd down abilities than right now...maybe when Kelly was here.

It's my perception as well, that a major problem with the run game has been poor blocking.  And at times both McDermott and Daboll have alluded to as much.  As I recall in one press conference, one of them said something about Motor getting 4-5 "hard fought yards", but behind the LOS.

But the pass protection has usually not been that poor, especially up the middle - so that begs the question, are we telegraphing run plays somehow that's letting the defenders get a jump on us?

Is it a technical issue where somehow what the OL is trying to do for the run blocking, isn't as successful as what they do when they're pass blocking?

From what I read somewhere and I am not sure exactly how accurate it is, is that the OLine is trying to act like they are pass blocking even on run plays a lot because they are doing RPOs and when Allen hands the ball off on those, often times they don't have proper setup or technique to run block...

Plus with our use of play action so much they would want the looks to be the same from the OLine...

Whatever the case they are definitely getting beat too often...whether its man on man or not executing the zone blocks well enough and letting defenders through cracks, it has been downright terrible in many games. Not all, as we ran well against the Pats and a couple others but all too often the RBs are fighting to get back to the LOS which is ridiculous.

Pass blocking is a different story because they have been pretty good most games...even when Seattle sacked Allen 7 times, the majority were due to them sending all out blitzes or Allen holding too long trying to wait for something and make a play. Even with that, he torched them for 415 yards and 3 TDs.

I need to follow whoever this is...

    very nice

    did you draw that yourself?

Hell no! I can't even draw a stick figure hahaha...

The original small black and white one I am not sure who did that but the 2 I posted are done by a local Buffalo guy under the handle Flicktures. He has his own facebook page, etc where you can see his work which is exceptional...sometimes he holds raffles when he does a new print for people to get a numbered one, I have often thought about getting some stuff from him but haven't yet.

He also does commissioned original work as well, but I don't know much about that.

I have always just been amazed at how great his drawings turn out.

  13. Teams should have an advantage running out of 3 and 4 WR sets because it brings smaller players onto the field and opens up natural running lanes by creating more space. That shouldn't be a negative to running the ball effectively, it should be a positive.

There is nothing that can fix a run game when offensive linemen consistently allow 2 players to be in the backfield before the RB gets the ball, unless they are allowing a guy on the edge to come free and running away from him. But this isn't the case most times...usually the players are right in the middle of the field, meaning the tackles are getting penetration up the middle too many plays.

Ugh, I loved Ty Dunne while he was working for TBN.  I don't know what path his career took but he's started this new football site "Golongtd" and I wish him well.

If this article is an example of his content, though, I'm not feeling it.    It reads as very contrived.

"Everyone associated with the Bills — from Sean McDermott to all faithful servants pounding Cajun-Honey Butter BBQ wings at Bar Bill — is overwhelmed with hope because the Bills, Your Bills, are Super Bowl contenders, *****, and no sober Western New Yorker has been able to say that for 20-plus years. "

Does anyone really feel the Bills are legit Superbowl Contenders this year?  Do we think that's What McDermott believes?  Dunne doesn't make a case for that.  He just asserts it.

I think we all believe the Bills "have a shot IF".  IF the defense gets its act together and toughens up.  IF we get a couple key players back and that makes a difference.  IF the AWOL run game shows up along with the OL getting healthier.   IF we do our job and finish the season strong, instead of letting other teams hang around in the game or come back on us, and sneak past us at the end.    I think you see it in the thread titles here.

Beane has said stuff like "we're not one player away" and declined to make moves at the trade deadline, where other teams like Baltimore, KC etc did.

Lastly the bit about the Bills being close to drafting Mahomes because Pegula liked him.  "the Bills’ brass then decided to trade down from 10th overall to 27th to pick up a future first-rounder with hopes Mahomes would slide."  Really?  Who did the Bills think KC was trading up for then?  C'mon Man, teams only make moves like that for a QB and from what I recall, KC's interest in Mahomes was well known before the draft.  Reid and McDermott are close.

Dunne seems to be banking on the recollections of a guys who got the boot after that draft - Monos.  Maybe he's remembering correctly.  Or maybe he's making a retrospective case that the scouting staff he was part of didn't make a huge whiff, they loved Mahomes, they wanted Mahomes, they Did Their Job and the owner did his, McDermott just whiffed?

So his conclusion is that Josh Allen is under more pressure than any player in professional football because everyone expects the Bills to be Superbowl contenders and Pegula wanted them to draft Mahomes just seems quite contrived to me.

I think he tried to lead with that to give the article Current Relevance instead of being Yet Another 2018 Draft Rehash, but it didn't work.

If anyone would be under pressure, it seems to me that would be McDermott - and he just got a big extension.

How legit they are depends on if they can play their best football late in the year or not.  Clearly this team when playing like they did against Seattle or Las Vegas can beat any team in the NFL. The question is how consistently will we see those games versus the one we saw against Arizona or Tennessee?

The key to winning the Super Bowl is both having enough talent AND peaking at the right time. And sometimes getting lucky with matchups in the playoffs if there is an upset of a better team.

And there are a number of teams who have won the Super Bowl that had IF's attached to them at this time during the season, so that doesn't really mean much at this point. It only means something in January.
