Changes to offensive philosophy, rules protecting quarterbacks and sports medicine all huge contributors here.  This is why you cannot compare QB's from different era's with stats.   This is also why I believe an argument can be made that Montana is the GOAT.

    Some would claim Unitas...

What he was doing compared to most of his contemporaries was astounding. I think that is part of it when comparing eras...you have to look at what the player was doing in comparison to the other players who were playing at that time.

Wow only 1 buffalo bill in history has had a 100 catch season I would've thought Reed would've had done it couple of times that's crazy ....

And 20.4 yards a catch is insane

Reed had 90 catches in 1994 and 88 in 1989. His only other 80+ catch season was 81 in 1991.

    He had 4 1000 yard seasons, 1,312 yards in 1989, 1,306 in 1994, 1,113 in 1991 and 1,036 in 1996.

More than anything, Reed was incredibly consistent year to year over a long period of time.  He had 13 seasons of 50+ catches, and without being injured in 1995 season where he only played 6 games but had 24 catches, which would have put him on pace for 64 that season, would have been 14 consecutive. The only season other than the injury shortened once where he had under 739 yards was his last one in Buffalo in 1999 where he had 536 yards and his rookie year with 637.

I'm hoping Buffalo signs Fitz in free agency for a year or 2 till he retires a buffalo bill.

Diggs is on pace for 117 catches 1,450 yards ... would both of these be Bills franchise records?

Yes. Moulds holds both. Receptions record is 100 set in 2002 and yardage record is 1368 set in 1998. Impressively the yardage record was set with only 67 receptions that year, an astonishing 20.4 YPC.

The ultimate flaw of basketball, which I consider to be an otherwise beautiful game, is that intentionally committing fouls is a major strategy at the end of almost every close game.

And how would you stop it? I guess any foul deemed to be intentional could result in 2 free throws AND possession for the team who was fouled.

But I mean how is this really any different than the NFL having players do kneel downs to end the game?

I get that one is to prevent the other team from winning and the other is done to win but both similarly take away from the way the majority of the game is played.

Do you guys think we will get a snow game this year?

Between the Chargers, Steelers and dolphins, that is our last chance to host a snow game unless of course we host a playoff game.

I'm always a big fan of snow games.

What are your thoughts? Do you guys like snow games? What about a snow game in the playoffs? I imagine that would be a disadvantage to the way this team is built in terms of its strengths.

Very iffy. Temps are supposed to be well above normal on average for the winter here. Long range temp outlooks show temps between mid to upper 30s and 50s for highs into first week in December.

This is far far far too early.

I really hope you're being sarcastic, and naming Tommy Maddox and Randy Johnson and the rest of these wanted-to-be's "notables" makes me think you may be.

But it's still a horrible idea.

No, those are the players Allen will be passing this week if he hits those numbers.

It's meant as an ongoing thread which will update every week

  7. Going to update this thread every week to list Allen's current place and some notables that Allen will be able to pass in the upcoming game.

    EDIT: UPDATED post Bucs game

    Current Place: 113th

With a 250 yard performance will pass:

    • Richard Todd (49 yards - hmm, any relation to Sweeney Todd??)
    • Earl Morrall (248 yards)

With a 300 yard performance will pass:

    • Nobody

With a 350 yard performance will pass:

    • Nobody

With a 400 yard performance will pass:

    • Nobody

With a 450 yard performance will pass:

    • Jake Delhomme (414 yards)

Players Allen passed last week(324 yards for Allen) - 3 (Trent Dilfer, Billy "Val" Kilmer, Aaron Brooks)

Key Look Ahead: Allen is a little under 600 yards from passing Jack Kemp

Key Look Ahead #2: Allen is a little over 1500 yards from entering the top 100 all-time for career QB passing yards, replacing Carson Wentz at 100.

He is the greatest journeyman QB of all time.

no one ever played so poorly and at the same time so well, they started for and at some point were  benched by 8 Different teams.

    legendary!

I mean he is in 32nd place all-time in passing yards and currently under 1000 yards from passing Jim Kelly who is 27th (and will likely be 28th soon since Alex Smith only needs about 480 yards to pass him).  That is astonishing...

If he can play one more full season somewhere he will likely also pass Hasselback, McNabb and Esiason as well...and potentially Dave Krieg.

Also, I am sitting here stunned that Kerry Collins has over 40K yards, sits 20th and is 1 spot above Joe Montana...

Somewhat equally stunned that Collins was just passed by Flacco, who sits right above hmi at 19th all time.

Also, with a 300 yard day on Sunday, Allen will move from 223rd all time to 216, passing the likes of:

    Arnie Herber

    Jimmy G

    Tommy Maddox

    James Harris

    Pete Beathard

    Shaun Hill

    Randy Johnson

    Nope.

He was an absolute cut above during his time with Buffalo. Granted, he was overshadowed by 6 other HOFers but we don’t go to 4 SBs without him. Leaving for Atlanta then Indy had him drop off the national spotlight but this Finalist Vote is worthy nonetheless.

Bennett wasn't even the best player on his own defense, Sestak was one of the best DT's of all time.

Wtf are you babbling about? He was an absolute terror from his play in the NFL. Chasing down RB’s sweeping left from the other side of the field and dropping them for a loss. Took over at MLB when Conan was lost due to injury and was our BEST player.

    Stay off drugs, kids.

He was a good player, just not a HOF worthy player.

Now if we were talking about Tom Sestak being in the final 25 then we might be talking...there is 0 argument for Bennett being in the HOF over Sestak. Sestak was the AFL version of JJ Watt in his prime.
