It was a killer and I am amazed that our defense pulled his butt out of the fire on that series, but in close games he has to get more consistent.

There have been a few times where I have seen him drop it right within the 10 yard marker and if our coverage kept running they would have had a good chance to pin our opponent.

Usually our coverage guys pulled up buying the catching fake by the punt returner rather than knowing where the ball was. Can't be easy though, tracking down a 50 yard punt and running all that way down the field fighting off the guy jamming you while getting a bead on the punt and where it is heading - not an easy role to do at max speed.

He has saved the offenses butt with a few 70+ yard punts this year when they have gone 3 and out inside their own 15 as well...

    its must a bye week...

yeah its great to see the O playing well despite the O line injuries and what I consider a lack of commit to the run game esp when the other team is blitz-crazy like the Cards were.

The lack o punts also does not include any block and or fakes which I l believe are zero ?

No...there are numerous games this year where we don't even punt in a half(usually the first half) and the Jets game we never punted the entire game...

The most the Bills have punted in any game this year is 4 times and it happened in 3 games...Arizona, Miami and KC. This lines up with our stellar offensive drive numbers off of Football Outsiders(we are pretty much top 5 in every category other than TO/drive) and our drive success rate is 2nd in the NFL only to KC at 78.5%.

In comparison, the Bills punted 5 or more times in 10!! games last year and 4 times in 2 other games...

Bills have 5 games with 2 or fewer punts this year already and they had no games like that last year...3 was the fewest number of punts in a game and that happened 3 times.

  3. If that doesn't say how far the offense has come from the last 2 years I don't know what does...

In 1990 they set a record for the fewest punts in franchise history with 53.

Currently through 10 games this year we only have 25, on pace for 40 for the full year.

In comparison, last year we had 79 and in 2018 we had 61.

We set a franchise record for most punts in 1996 with 101. This was really surprising since we actually made the playoffs in that year...

Patriots??  They are a complete joke this year....they will not come even close to winning this division or a WC spot.....no flippin way....who did they beat.....the NY Jets who put 27 on them and ok they beat the Ravens in a monsoon......sorry but IMO those games does not say anything to me that we should now be worried about the Pats......

You realize they were a Zimmer forced fumble away from likely winning the first game here or at least forcing OT with a chip shot FG right?

I too had 10-6 before but now I dunno....if we can get to 8 wins after this weekend i can possibly see more wins than 10......really can see it happening!

I could see us going into the Miami game at 11-4 with our only other loss coming to the Steelers.  That being said, I am not automatically chalking that up as a loss.  Yeah they are a good team, but there is no reason why the Bills should feel like they can't play with them.  They have played some close games and have not been great on offense in a lot of games. Their D makes plays but they can give up points too...

I am not saying the Bills should be favored in that game but I am not saying that is an automatic loss either, especially as it is a home game for us.

Also I think if the Patriots continue playing the way they have for the last 2 weeks that game in Foxboro is a toss up.

Losman to Peerless for the game winning TD in Houston in 2006 was far more clutch..........that sh*t was crazy.

Down 21-17 Jauron punted the ball with just 2:10 left.

And somehow it worked because the Texans went 3 and out and punted and Losman brought them down the field and hurled a great pass to Peerless Price who made a diving TD grab with :09 left for the upset win.

That was probably the height of Losman AND Jauron's careers in Buffalo.

It's easy to forget that football has been played in Buffalo prior to now but there have been clutch plays and Bills games that ended in spectacular fashion prior to yesterday.

It wasn't any big surprise that Josh lead the Bills to a go ahead TD with all that time and TO's left.......had they not gotten a TD on that play it had just been second down with a lot of time and a timeout in hand..........they were still going to get a pretty makable game tying field goal attempt.

It wasn't any surprise more because he has done it more than any other QB in the NFL since 2018 with the exception of Brees. And imagine if he hadn't gotten hurt in that Houston game and the Patriot game where Barkley had them knocking on the endzone in the 4th Q to take the lead.  Does anyone believe that Allen wouldn't have won that game?

Agreed, and ironically Josh would have had this same penchant given his throw to Diggs on Sunday if that miracle catch didn't happen....

I think Allen is very bit if not MORE clutch than Mahomes.  Allen would have had 12 4th Q Comebacks in his career if they didn't lose on a luky play to the Cards which would have tied Brees for the most since Allen came into the league in 2018. Allen missed several games in that year and is there anyone who doesn't believe that we beat the Pats last year if Allen doesn't get hurt and Barkley throws a game killing INT in the 4th Q at the goalline?

Granted Mahomes doesn't need to come back too often because they are largely ahead most of the time but still...

    I hate bye weeks...

This will be good for the team, though. They should come out on fire against the Chahgahs.

Good sign that Keenan Allen said the Dolphins really confused them with their defensive looks and they were so confused they decided to run the ball instead of throwing it late in the game.  Bills should be able to do the same thing as we are known for disguising and bringing pressure from all over.

It’s crazy, I do think there is an element of luck to it and he’s able to have “bad” games when he faces a lot of pressure like in most of the SB last year. He just has the ability to come through in the clutch even if he does have a bad game.

There has been...every NFL QB could probably have 4 or 5 more INT's than they have...I know Allen could easily. DB's are not known for their ability to catch the ball most of the time...that is why they are not WR's...

I don't know how they get these numbers, but according to this:

    https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/hail-murray-by-the-numbers-separation-air-yards-catch-probability/article_f09de16a-281f-11eb-b1d8-ebcea1fb58ce.html

    1) NextGen says the pass had a 16.9% completion probability, which seems very high to me

    2) after the Diggs TD reception with 34 seconds left the Bills only had a 6% probability of winning, which seems very low to me

Don't shoot me, I'm only bringing in the TBN-reported data from NextGen Stats.  And it seems very strange to me.

Pretty sure they meant a 6% chance of losing...I actually saw the Bills chances of winnings were as high as 96.9% by some sites measurements.

I've been a big McClappy critic but this is a major accomplishment this year considering he was 3-15 the previous 3 seasons combined.

And it's at pretty safe bet at this point that all 4 teams we've beat are playoff bound as are the 3 teams we've lost to.

The big issue though how a head coach with a defensive pedigree could let that side of the ball become so terrible in a year we are finally fielding a 21st century NFL offense. And I also question the rising number of penalties each week which has also contributed to this team falling apart in the 3rd quarter every week.

Bills have played 7!! of their 10 games against teams with a record of 6-3 or better.  That is insane! Bills are also 4-3 in those games, which is pretty damn good(would have been 5-2 if they held on for the last 34 seconds against the Cards).

The next closest team is Vegas with 5 games against teams with winning records, and only 2 other teams have played 4 such games.  Bills might have the hardest schedule in the NFL up to this point and to be 7-3(and should have been 8-2) is a major accomplishment that we should be pretty excited about in terms of what this team can ultimately be.

With games coming up against the Chargers, Pats, 49ers and Broncos the schedule gets a little bit easier for us finally. Only have Pittsburgh and Miami left as teams with winning records.

Simple...its because defense is much more inconsistent on a year to year basis than offense. That is, there is no correlation between one year's defensive performance and the next year's performance while there is a correlation between the two on offense.

Also consider last year we played a bunch of bad offenses and 3rd string QBs.

This year we are playing a lot of top 10 offenses.

So has the defense gotten worse or have they just played a lot more good offensive teams and elite QBs?

Guys Frank Reich just owned the Tennesse Titans we cannot talk about Sean McDermott as evolving as a Coach. When he has regressed and his players admitted to buying the hype. It's how he's managed to lose so much of the locker room and has pretty much fallen apart as a defensive genius. Reich wins with a no name defense and an aging Quarterback in up tempo both sides of the ball against better teams. McDermott has regressed completely to his first year. We don't know if he'll crash and burn to 9-7 pr 8-8 at this point. If he does put a fork into any future discussion of the process it'll be a Beane coaching staff adjustment.

Who has beaten the most teams in the NFL with a winning record?

    Oh...that is right. The Bills.

Both of the plays were identical.  Play-action to the back and then get Hughes to make a one-on-one decision as to who he should tackle.  He bit on the RB both times and Murray literally walked in to the end zone.

Where were the other LB's and especially where was the D-Line??  They were invisible.  It was great scouting by the Cardinals to see that weakness in our defense.

    It's all pretty discouraging.

I mean OK...overall I thought we did a pretty good job on them.

    This thread is pretty discouraging.

I'm pretty sure there's no SNF scheduled for week 17.  Gives teams more time to get ready for playoff games the following weekend.

Correct...all games are played at the same time to prevent anyone from being able to rest starters once they know the results of the earlier games, etc...

  15. Wonder if the Bills will bring in the former starting guard from Minnesota that just got cut for a look, Elflein...3rd round pick out of Ohio State...he had been the starter until he got hurt, came back and they stuck with the guy who replaced him...still young, looks like it might be good depth at least...likely better than Boettiger...
