Cue the over-generalization and the members who want to talk about what other posters are writing instead of actually discussing Bills football... -

No surprise...They have been talking about Levitre a TON on both NFL Network and ESPN the past few days...In fact yesterday when Polain said that OG's usually don't get paid like OT's you could here Schefter say right away that Levitre was going to get paid big-time...There is a huge buzz going on about Levitre...I like him a lot...But that kid is going to get over-paid big-time... -
DeadSpin - Convo Between Nix and Tampa GM

It's funny that some around here use the hindsight (being 20/20) argument to defend Nix when it comes to the Draft and other moves he's made...But in reality Nix gets a tremendous amount of clarity himself when given the benefit of hindsight...So... -

Is it strange after reading and listening to this I feel 100% better about the Fitz situation? I mean...At least Buddy sees it like most of us do...I said yesterday if you can tell me Fitz will agree to something around the average for a back-up QB in the NFL I'm all ears...Otherwise, not so much... Anyway... -
I dont understand any of this cut Fitz talk

So...In those 3 games did Fitz have the opportunity to win it late? And what did he do exactly? See this is the thing with Fitz...There were plenty of people on this board who felt he would improve, and continue to improve, going back 3 years plus...But he didn't...He's basically the same guy...And to be a winning QB on almost any team you have to be better, especially vs good Defenses, and when the game is on the line...Fitz does just enough to tease folks into thinking maybe...just maybe...if we do this or that...He'll be good enough...And in reality he is exactly who he has always been... Thing is...to me at least...if I don't think the guy is good enough, I think we should move on...I feel in the end it will be for the best, and that it's best for the Organization moving forward...I accept the very real possibility of growing pains. I also accept the very real possibility that the Bills could Draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd Round this year, only to grab one again in the top 5 next year...That's fine with me...I want them to move on and try...And I just don't see the use in keeping Fitz for another day if he's not going to be around long-term...If they can get his salary down to the average for a back-up in the NFL then I'm all ears...Otherwise...No thanks...And that's just my opinion of course... -

No offense...But I think you're seriously dreaming with that point...I think with an improved Defense the Bills could win a game or two more for sure...But the minute Fitz comes up against a good Defense himself, he won't be good enough...And that's that... -
Bills, Fitzpatrick inch toward $3 million decision
KOKBILLS replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree...In fact I think it's likely you're 100% right...But that is definitely filed under my personal "worst-case-scenario." When Fitz gets benched it's sure as heck going to look like we should have just cut our ties and moved on...But we'll see I guess... -

No...Not in this case...That's a bit of an over-generalization considering we're talking about a decision on the QB who led the NFL in turnovers the past 3 years combined...These would not be over-reactions...They would be reactions to what a vast majority of Bills fans have seen with their own two eyes...It's rare to get a strong majority of people to agree on anything, in any walk-of-life...When you have this type of overall consensus, fanatics or not, it clearly means something...And don't think the Bills FO does not know it... -

I agree about Fitz's character...But I'm not even sure it's really about Fitz as much as it's about the influence he has with some players still on the roster...And I think it's even more about where this team will be this time next year...Fitz may be the consummate team-first guy...But what about the rest of that locker room (Stevie?) when the Rookie, or TJax, have a couple bad games in a row? That's why I think it's best to just move on... Honestly...I realize no NFL Team is going to look at it this way publicly...But anything they get in the win column in 2013 is bonus...The Bills need to have laser focus on the long-term future at QB...And that's definitely not Fitz...So...Why not just get it over with? -

Well...I think they're going to take one high regardless...My best guess all along has been if Geno is gone they bail out of #8...Maybe even trade down twice, then take the guy they like best later in the 1st...In a trade down scenario I have no problem taking a flyer on a few QB's later in the 1st...My preference right now would be Manuel...I understand the 1st may be a bit high, but athletically he's got the most to work with after Geno, and I like some of his intangibles...Considering they all, including Geno, need some polish...I think Manuel is a good risk...But Nassib, Barkley, and even Tyler Wilson could be in play later in the 1st...If The Bills wait till the 2nd Round Bray, Scott, and Glennon might be the target as well ... Anyway...No matter what they better take one high...No later than Round 2 for sure...Fitz or no Fitz...They better Draft a QB early... -

I would certainly be all for the 7.45m savings in 2013 if that is in fact possible...Otherwise I'm in favor of cutting Fitz, taking a one year hit squarely on the chin for a crappy deal, and have no residual cap liability in 2014... -

Agreed 100%...Teams like the Bills, with holes all over the roster, do not have the luxury of taking an OG in the top 10...If anything the Bills would Draft an OT and slide someone inside...But I doubt very much, no matter what happens with Levitre, that the Bills go O-Line in the 1st...I would be very surprised if they did...Shocked actually...

The tender does not mean much outside of guaranteed compensation if Byrd were to sign an offer sheet...Which no team would do knowing they would have to give up 2 1st Round picks...I'm uncertain if this changed with the new CBA, but in the past teams could negotiate trades concerning tendered players...This allowed the new team to sign the player for market value without having to give up a King's ransom...It also allowed the team losing the player to negotiate fair compensation...This scenario never took place unless the player was getting a new long-term deal...So it was kind of a win, win, win when it was clear the old team was not going to pony up the cash for a long-term deal...

Cardinal Safety Adrian Wilson has been released

I was going to say...Somewhere Trent Edwards is hiding knowing Wilson is free... -
Like I said in another thread...This is the exact same-type-Draft-theory that landed the Bills Aaron Williams and TJ Graham...So I do agree it's probably exactly what Buddy will do... I'll remind all of you who think this is a good path that this is the Buffalo Bills Scouting Dept we are talking about ..This is Buddy Nix making the final call...And it's likely that The Bills pick...That "devil that you know..." Will not be as good as that QB, or player at another position, the Bills pass on... Just saying...

What? That ball was perfectly thrown. He could not have placed it better if he ran it down and handed it to the guy...The receiver did nothing but put his hands up... http://www.nfl.com/v...Bowl-highlights

Bill Polian talks Geno & Barkley

As for what you've heard about Geno...Watch some of his tape and tell me if he can read Defenses or not...Now...I'm not saying there is no room for improvement with Geno...He did struggle at times later in the year...But I could care less what anyone says about the kid reading Defenses...You can not easily look past that completion percentage in his Sr year...Heck in his College Football career... 71.2% as a Sr...67.4% College career on over 1400 attempts...No QB gets those numbers on accident... I'll be the first to admit there is a leap of faith involved in Drafting Geno...But look...If you're going to gamble, you might as well gamble with a super athletic kid who has a plus arm, high completion numbers, and 98 TD's to only 21 INT's in 3 years as a Starter at WVU...The sky is the limit for Geno potential-wise...It's going to take a great Coach with a great system that match his talents...But if Geno is the guy Marrone wants, I think his chances of NFL success are very good... -
Exactly...This decision is as much about future Cap implications as it is present ones...Like I heard yesterday on the radio, re-structure is probably the wrong way to phrase this thing...I imagine the Bills are seeking a major pay cut that will allow them to cut Fitz with MUCH less Cap consequence in 2014, or it's not even worth it...Just cut him now and get it over with...The team is clearly in a mini-rebuild...They are looking towards a young QB of the future which means growing pains usually...This team is not ready to win now...I just don't feel the hit this year is that bad when you consider they will be on the hook for nothing in 2014...No one penny... It was a bad deal...Take the medicine now and move on...That's just my opinion...

Well...No one is right 100% of the time and Mayock is simply the best "TV Scout" out there...Gabbert was not exactly an easy evaluation either...He lacked experience, but has great physical tools, and he's really smart...There was a positive projection with Gabbert mostly because Scouts felt he would be able to learn quick, and handle the mental aspect of being an NFL QB...He has not been able to do that... And just a note...I watch NFL Network, especially leading up to the Draft, religiously...I have for years now...I even tape "Path To The Draft." While you are correct that Mayock liked Gabbert best of the available QB's in 2010, I don't remember him ever saying Gabbert's Pro Day was the best he's ever seen...Maybe he did and I missed it...But anyway here's the link to his comments on Gabbert's Pro Day... http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-draft/09000d5d81ece800/Mayock-evaluates-Gabberts-pro-day

You don't even have to like Manuel much to understand he's got a hell of a lot more going for him than Losman did...I'm not advocating Drafting Manuel at #8...But I'd be happy with him at #41...And I'm not even sure he'll make it that far...Manuel may be raw and have some accuracy issues...But he's got serious upside too...And QB's with his tools get over-drafted for a reason...
