Smart teams will usually not sign FA's who leave teams, but will sign players after they are cut by other teams. That is one way to load up on compensatory draft picks after your own FA's leave. In order to make this work though, your team can't be a perennial doormat with a proven chump for a GM like Lil Doug, or the good cut FA's will sign elsewhere. That's why it would've been best for Pegs to clean house Day 1.

^^ Don't disagree with any of that, except for #5 cause I've never met him. Bottom line though, he was still one of Ralph's boys, which makes him accordingly labeled as a loser and a chump. It is what it is. Would I rather see Lil Doug or Russ thrown to the curb? Absolutely.

Donohoe pre - micro-managing Ralph was light years better than Lil Doug. I would gladly sign up for this swap, but unfortunately, Ralph turned TD into severely damaged goods.

Actually I think stats are for losers when it comes to the NFL. When it comes to overall impact on the game and FAME, TO far surpasses the names on your list other than Rice (though I do think Irvin and Andre are HOF-worthy) . Can't write the history of the game without him.
